hi Marie. I thought testing 2 hours after a meal wasn't incouraged in Dafne? Because you still have at least 40% of your short acting on board (I find my QA lasts 5 hours) that the result in itself (unless you're going hypo) shoudn't be touched i.e. corrected

Hi Marie,

Almost everyone will have 'spikes' or peaks after a meal, this is quite normal. A blood test two hours after a meal will normally show this. I often peak higher than 20. I am surprised that Shreddies do that though, I would have expected them to be slower acting. Of course I don't have a clear picture as you haven't said what insulin(s) you are on or when you take them relative to eating.

Don't take precipitate action. Keep looking for patterns and take a few extra blood tests about two hours after eating to get a clearer picture. There really should be no NO-NO foods if you have your base insulin right (always the first step), your ratios right for each meal and your timings right. It's a matter of trial and error, for evermore as things change constantly, but change only one thing at a time and wait a minimum of two days before making another change.

Best of luck,

Roger

Would you say your morning is physical...........even if it is, you should try and dose for your food and correct so that you are within target range for lunch time............

Obviously you fear hypo by lunch time if your running about, that is natural, but you will not know the effect of a 'hectic morning' unless you dose correctly, only then can you accurately adjust................. Wink

As mentioned I do not take a big correction at breakfast as may not get chance to grab any food from 6.30am until 1pm on somedays, as time tends to run away as workload hectic in mornings. So I do a correction at 6.30am that brings me down to 10-12 range by 11am when qa is coming to end of play if bg is high in morning, then take a unit or two correction at same time as Background so at 1pm when I have lunch and relax for an hour am in good range.

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Download entries from site?

Hi Alan,

I'm using OS 5.0.1 on a 4S and it's still working OK for me. It does take a while if you have a large number of entries - have you tried leaving it for a few minutes to complete the download?

I'll test it out with a big number and see if it fails for me too.

I agree Jenny,
I think this is an excellent suggestion and would save entering notes all the time (I know I had to keep entering notes all the time when I had a chest infection to explain the higher BGs.

Anele.

Topic: General Discussion / Exercise classes and type1?

Hello,
I find that cycling seems to work best (for me).
Prior to being a diabetic I used to go to the gym 2-3 times a week for an hour but since being on DAFNE my BGs are a lot more stable and of course the weight (for me) is harder to lose.

I used to look at how much exercise and calories I burned at the gym compared to how much CPs I needed to eat or drink to stop hypos and thought "what's the point as the extra CPs is negating the exercise and thus I am not going to lose any weight" Mad

I have since taken up cycling and bought an exercise bike for the winter months and find that an hour of cycling drops my BGs 3-4 so If I inject a unit less of QA at my meal prior to exercise (lunch as normally cycle once I get home from work around 5ish) then I don't need to take much, if at all any CPs and it seems to be making a difference.
Looking forward to the better weather for cycling to/from work although it is so much quicker to get home from work in the car Sad
Certainly, from my DAFNE course last year I was advised to inject less QA (I'm on Novorapid) prior to exercise.
Hope this helps Smile

Good luck!
Cheers,
Anele.

Hi Novorapid,

Thanks for your reply, I always have breakfast when I get up. I dont chase bloodsugars normally however if I get up and eat at 6.30am and know that not having lunch until about 1pm. If am still above target (11 upwards) I may take a little correction so by the time I have lunch I am perfect range. This is not a daily occurance but occasional as dont like taking a massive correction early in the morning, as work tends to be hectic at times and sometimes dont get a chance to catch a breath!
