Did KMT's fix work for anybody? It would be helpful if you're reporting these issues then include the iPhone model you are using, as well as the version of ios installed on the phone, so that we can understand whether it is isolated to specific models. |

Topic: General Discussion / How to test for Spikes with Food Reading the posts again I think I should add two things.1. Jenny is correct when she says that a high reading at two hours after a meal should not be corrected. 2. Depending upon the time at which you have breakfast Marie, your levemir will be tailing off. This may be a small contributory factor. Roger |

Topic: General Discussion / How to test for Spikes with Food Hi Marie and Jenny,I was advised that a test two hours after a meal was adviseable to check on the 'peak'. If you think about it, this would be about the time it would take for the carbohydrate you have eaten to be fully transferred to the blood. After this the level of carbohydrate in the blood would continue to fall due to the insulin which, as you point out Jenny, is still in the system. I should make it clear that this check, two hours after eating, is not routine. It is only needed when investigating the cause of unusual BG results at mealtimes. Roger |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / high bloods tiny carbs Sarahlou,Thanks for your comments. One of the advantages explained to me of DAFNE is if I want to eat I can, and if not I don't have to. Have I got this wrong? I did dafne a long time ago maybe this has changed. The insulin I have in a morning is 2:1 ratio. So 1 unit is ok for 0.5 Carbs. On Fri morn I had a small 0.2 carb intake but also a slighlty elevated BG. 1 unit should have worked. 0.5 of a unit for the 0.2cp's and the other 0.5 of a unit should lower my BG from 7.5 to 6.5. 1unit = -2m/mol. for me. I still haven't got the hang of adjusting around exercise. I'll persevere. My next appointment is in May. I have no real reason other than when I eat carbs I put on weight. I do have days, when I eat a varied amount of carbs. I try to eat when I'm hungry. This is usually in the evening. Thanks for your support. ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / High BS Might be worth seeing if your Specialist Nurse can set up some continuous glucose monitoring for you, it might be useful. When I did this I found that from the moment I woke (7-ish) when my bloods would be almost perfect, over the next few hours it rose steadily from 4.5 to 12.2 (10ish) without having anything to eat yet and at the time when I wanted to eat I needed a large corrective dose. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / high bloods tiny carbs Looking at your results in the morning you usually have 1 unit of insulin but no food/carbs. By not giving your body any food, especially carbohydrate, your body attempts to raise your blood sugar by other sources to keep your blood sugars in a normal range. This would happen fine in a non-diabetic because their pancreas can then release extra insulin to stop your body (the 'new' sugar comes from your liver) making your blood sugars too high. As this doesn't happen in a diabetic, you can see there is no mechanism (i.e this one unit of insulin is not enough) to cap this increased blood sugar. Therefore you have high blood sugars around 12.00- 13.00. As you also exercised on Wednesday and this would have the same effect. There may also be a problem with your background insulin- it may not be high enough to keep your blood sugars sustained?By including more carbs in your diet you are giving your body something to match your insulin dose to. Is there any particular reason why you don't eat breakfast or many carbohydrate foods? It really is important for a balanced healthy diet to contain around 50% carbs to give your body that important fuel source. Have you any appointments with your diabetic team coming up that you could put some of these issues across to? |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / high bloods tiny carbs I could do with some advice please. My blood sugar rises through the morning up to lunchtime and I want to know why? I do not eat at breakfast time. I sometimes do not have lunch either. tea is usually late and can have little or no carbs in it. My breakfast fasting blood sugar is usually very good. I am not eating until lunch except for 2 cups of coffee with milk. Would the splash of milk raise my Blood? After a pre meal test I take a corrective dose. In fact most of my QA insulin is given as corrective doses. How can I pre-empt what my Blood sugar will be so I can take a corrective dose before my blood rises. I have 2 injections of Lantus. I overlap them to help with the highs I have most mornings. I have nearly doubled the dose in the last year. Now take 15 at 8amish and 15 at midnight-ish. I am on a 2:1 ins to carb ratio all day except evening when I am 1.5:1 I am no more active than the average person. On and off this has been a problem for me for over 10 years. Thank you. |

Topic: General Discussion / How to test for Spikes with Food hi Marie. I thought testing 2 hours after a meal wasn't incouraged in Dafne? Because you still have at least 40% of your short acting on board (I find my QA lasts 5 hours) that the result in itself (unless you're going hypo) shoudn't be touched i.e. corrected |

Topic: General Discussion / How to test for Spikes with Food Hi Marie,Almost everyone will have 'spikes' or peaks after a meal, this is quite normal. A blood test two hours after a meal will normally show this. I often peak higher than 20. I am surprised that Shreddies do that though, I would have expected them to be slower acting. Of course I don't have a clear picture as you haven't said what insulin(s) you are on or when you take them relative to eating. Don't take precipitate action. Keep looking for patterns and take a few extra blood tests about two hours after eating to get a clearer picture. There really should be no NO-NO foods if you have your base insulin right (always the first step), your ratios right for each meal and your timings right. It's a matter of trial and error, for evermore as things change constantly, but change only one thing at a time and wait a minimum of two days before making another change. Best of luck, Roger |

Topic: General Discussion / Morning BG Advice Would you say your morning is physical...........even if it is, you should try and dose for your food and correct so that you are within target range for lunch time............Obviously you fear hypo by lunch time if your running about, that is natural, but you will not know the effect of a 'hectic morning' unless you dose correctly, only then can you accurately adjust................. ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Morning BG Advice As mentioned I do not take a big correction at breakfast as may not get chance to grab any food from 6.30am until 1pm on somedays, as time tends to run away as workload hectic in mornings. So I do a correction at 6.30am that brings me down to 10-12 range by 11am when qa is coming to end of play if bg is high in morning, then take a unit or two correction at same time as Background so at 1pm when I have lunch and relax for an hour am in good range. |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Download entries from site? Hi Alan,I'm using OS 5.0.1 on a 4S and it's still working OK for me. It does take a while if you have a large number of entries - have you tried leaving it for a few minutes to complete the download? I'll test it out with a big number and see if it fails for me too.
