Hello again Marie,

I'm on levemir and I take it at noon and midnight, more or less! It will vary from person to person depending largely on their normal life routines, e.g. When they need to leave for work.
As long as you keep to approximately 12 hours between injections you can, in theory, take it when you like. In practice the timing can have an effect as I suggested in another post.
You can adjust the time if you feel that your current injection times are not ideal, but do it slowly over a week or so! If, for example, you wanted to bring your morning BI forward from 10.30 am to 8.30 am you could bring it forward by half an hour a day over four days. Having said that, when I altered mine I moved it by an hour a day. If you move the morning BI of course, you must also move the evening BI. You need to keep a close watch on your BG while this change is going on to make sure you don't go into hypo. Highs are not so much of a problem as long as they do not persist.

Levemir is most commonly used a split dose background insulin, but it is used a single dose by some.............

I take mine in the morning at 6:30am, when I get up, this is most convenient for me as I am dosing for breakfast and testing my blood at this time anyway..........

I then take my evening dose at 10:30pm, this was originally an even split in time and I took my evening dose with dinner at 5:30om - 6:30pm, but because of the DP, I chose to take it later and so giving me more units on board at the 4:00am mark........

So to answer the question heading your thread, I would say there is no particular 'best' time to do it as everyone is different..........I would start with convenience and an even 12 hour split, and then from there, just tweak it to best suit your needs, which will change many times throughout life.......... I take mine once a day- before bed, and that seems to work for me.

As Roger said - everyone is different.

Just because you had a carb free breakfast and therefore no QA insulin and your BG levels steadily rose up until 11am, so the only dose working between breakfast and 11am is your 8am Levemir dose, which should be holding you steady..........

Only make a decision once you have recorded a few days of similar BG behavior, this will confirm it, and eliminate any variables, like hormones, miscalculation of carbs, carbs present when you believed there not to be etc.........

Good job though........... Wink

Ahh, I do apologize..................

The same rules still apply though, as it would be the tail end of your evening BI dose that would be responsible for the rise, however, it could be running out of steam by then............

So the move of your dose to an earlier time is good, actually, it may be better taking it with breakfast, then 12 hours later.........

When you take it at eight tomorrow morning, you will be looking for steady blood sugars all the way to lunch, so within 1-2 mmol/l........
