Topic: Site Development / Do you use the Diary Graphs?

Chris - just looking at this again; the graphs which calculate averages (mean/modal) don't take into account BG readings of 0 or empty ones, which graph is behaving in the way you describe?

Garry - thanks for the feedback, will change them.

Topic: General Discussion / How can you work out HBA1c by using your BG averages? Is it possible?

You're not a cynic - just more careful and thoughtful than me Wink

You're right though - we'd have to put a disclaimer on this, and details of how it was calculated. I would only suggest we do it if there was official research which we can link to which backs it up. Would be easy enough to add the functionality, as we already calculate the 90 day average on the BG diary.

Topic: General Discussion / What should DUAG being doing for you?

DUG is open to anyone who's taken the course, and are canvassed by DAFNE and the DUAG for opinions / research etc.

DUAG are an elected representative group of DAFNE Graduates who meet regularly and take part in activities to ensure DAFNE Graduates are better represented to DAFNE, Diabetes UK, NHS Trusts etc.

That's my take on it anyway!

Fair comment Garry, they are just the defaults - any preferences?

If so, we've changed them recently from Flash to Javascript, which makes them viewable on a wider range of devices (purely selfishly, I'm an Apple fanboy and Flash doesn't work on iPhones/iPads).

Let us know if the new graphs work OK for you - and if there are other kinds you'd like.

Novorapidboi - where did you get this from? I could incorporate it into the Diary on here...

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / How to download data from iphone app

The upload is kicked off when you save an entry - so try going into one of your entries, making a change then saving it and see if that helps.

Topic: General Discussion / OneTouch users beware

Thanks for your replys all - my doctors surgery gave me a meter to tide me over but it turned out to be broken with expired test strips. So I went to the late night pharmacy (a different boots) and bought a new meter, whilst I was there I asked them if they had any OneTouch Ultra strips and they said... Yes! No supply problem or anything. So today I went into the original Boots to complain and tell them they had to refund me for the meter purchase - after going away to consult with the area manager they said they'd refund the meter, get my OneTouch strips in for tomorrow and also gave me a £10 gift card for the trouble. Guess they don't like being exposed as liars....

Anyway, the new meter I got is an AccuCheck Aviva Nano, and I much prefer it to the old OneTouch Ultra, so today I went into the docs and got my prescription changed to the Aviva strips/lancets.

The moral of the story - don't trust what the pharmacist tells you!

Topic: General Discussion / OneTouch users beware

My normal meter is a OneTouch ultra... After putting in my prescription a week ago, and a couple of visits to the pharmacy, Boots told me this evening that there's a national supply problem with the OneTouch strips - I'm wondering if there any other users out there who've found this, or if Boots are fobbing me off.

Also if this is the case I thought I'd warn others as they may need to make other plans - I was down to 2 strips so had to press the doctors for a spare meter, which they did give me, only to get home and find the strips expired in January 2009! Back to the pharmacy then...

Topic: General Discussion / Do you usually ignore warnings to diabetics to 'consult your GP before use'?

First of all, welcome to the forums AK, hope you find them useful. Second of all a little disclaimer - my opinions are my own, I'm not a doctor and not a representative of DAFNE.

That said, I usually google for 'diabetes + whatever the active ingredient/product is', to learn a little more about it. This usually tells me that it's only really dangerous for people who have complications such as neuropathy. As I don't have any complications (touch wood) then I ignore the warnings and give it a go, and so far there haven't been any adverse effects of my using hard skin softner on my feet, and sudafed, both of which have 'not for diabetics' on the packaging.

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Polyol and Maltitol

Seems like its a bit of a gray area - they are only partially digested (not sure on percentages) if it's Glycerol then according to this Maximuscle article then they don't affect your blood sugars.

Yep, you can do it the other way - if you go to the settings page enter your DAFNE Online username and password in the Credentials bit (make sure you press done on the keyboard to save it) and then make sure te Diary Upload setting (below them) is set to on. Then, whenever you save an entry in the phone (by adding a new one or updating an existine one) it will be uploaded to the site. You can then see the site diary by clicking the My Blood Glucose Diary link which appears in the toolbox in the top right of the page when you are logged in.

I don't think polyols even get digested, they literally go straight through your system...

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Iphone Apps

Hi Mark,

1. Make sure you press 'Done' on the popup keyboard after you enter the ratio - this should save it for you, let me know if thet's not the case.

2. You can upload the entries to this site, and the diary display on the site can be viewed in a printer friendly format, and you can also use the charts to show trends etc - is this what you are looking for?

Thanks,

Simon

As far as I'm aware Polyols aren't absorbed by your body at all (hence why excessive consumption may have an adverse effect), so I wouldn't count them.

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Android app

No problems - also a question for the Android owners, are you free to upgrade your version of the Android OS, or does your network provider decide which one you're allowed to use?

I'm going to have a look at this now - what version of the Android OS is everyone using? NiVZ - perhaps you, Mark and I could work together on it, sharing the workload? I've done some Java dev in the past, just need to get my head around the Android SDK.

Topic: General Discussion / Id cards

I've used Medicalert - you pay an annual fee but they maintain your medical information on a database, and you get an ID card with basic info, then medical professionals can call the number on the card to get your full profile. You can also get ID bracelets/necklaces from them (I always forgot to put my bracelet on though...)

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Android app

We would like to broaden out into the Android app store - though I myself am an Apple fanboy through and through realise that not everybody is like me Smile

At the moment it's a question of time - Mark is currently working on updating the online Handbook, and mine is split between adding new features to the site and iPhone app. We will eventually get round to the Android/Blackberry/Windows Mobile apps, with Android being top priority, however our biggest problem is a lack of time. Any help with this is most appreciated - though we'd have to ensure that the features/functions of the iPhone and Android apps were consistent.

Topic: Site Development / Sending diary as an E-mail (ipod touch)

Hi Pat,

Finally got round to doing this - if you look at the site diary, above the table of entries, there is an option to 'Export as CSV for Excel' which will give you a .csv file which can then be opened up in Excel.

Apologies for the delay!

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Bug with iPhone app (& site diary)

Karl - you raise an interesting point. The app doesn't take away negative corrections from the TDD at the moment (something for us to fix), however it should show the total number of negative corrections given - does this work for you?

RobT - Yes we are using an open source stack. The app and diary have been based on the DAFNE Paper Diary, where (at least when I took the course) you entered the QA and BI dose under the same entry. Indeed, the Injection Site logging has only been implemented as a user request on this site. Would it be acceptable to add Injection Site (QA) and Injection Site (BI) as options in the app/site? We want to stay as faithful to the DAFNE way of doing things as possible. Finally, re the Injection Sites - we got the list of sites by canvsssing users for what they wanted in the list.
