Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Mobile site released

Hi,

We have released a first draft of mobile capabilities for the site. Currently the mobile capabilities are fairly limited' you can login and logout from the site, and when logged in you can browse the Carbohydrate Portion lists as well as search for a specific food item.

As there are many different mobile devices on the market, all with slightly different web browsing functions, we need you to test out the site on your own mobile devices and provide feedback on how the site looks and functions on them.

To get started, point your mobile web browser at www.dafneonline.co.uk - it should automatically detect that you are visiting from a mobile device and show you the mobile login screen. If, however the normal site home page is displayed, let us know what device you are using here, so we can research how to implement the mobile functions for your particular device.

You can log in to the mobile site with your usual username and password, and browse/search the CP lists by 'clicking' on the appropriate links.

As always, we value your feedback so please let us know, either on this or other posts, or via email what you think of the mobile site, as well as which other parts of the main site you would like to see 'going mobile'

Thanks,

Simon

Your feedback as always is much appreciated.

Hi Keith,

You raise some great points here:

7,14,30 day averages - Yes i agree that these would be valuable. I'll get started on this and update this post when it's done.
Counts - As above, will update you when this is done.
HbA1c - This will involve adding another module to the site; whilst possible it will take a little longer.
Export functions - These have been requested a few times - again they are a little more complicated than the first two, however they are on the radar and will appear eventually - when they do we'll announce via the forums.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Damo,

We've now added trending charts to the online BG diary - these plot BG readings over time as well as your average BG reading at different times of the day. If there are other charts you'd like to see then let us know and we'll get started on them ASAP.

Thanks,

Simon

Update to the online BG diary charts - we now have trending charts available which show your BG Readings over time, as well as your average readings at different times of the day. Find the links to these underneath the display of your BG diary online.

If anyone has feedback/suggestions of other charts/BG Functions then post here and we'll get started on them ASAP.

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Mobile Feature Requests

Hi,

We've had requests from a number of users for support for the site on their mobile devices - which I think would be a great thing to have. One thing I'd like to know is which exact features you'd like to access on your mobile - the Diary, CP List, Forums? - What's most important for you? Please post below.

Also, see mark's 'Sticky' topic in this forum to specify which device you use so we include it in our plans for development.

Thanks,

Simon

Topic: General Discussion / More forums ?

Hi Damo,

The 'Site Development' forum is the one for putting on requests for new features and suchlike, but it's OK to post here too Smile

What would you like to see from the graphical representations on the BG diary? These should be fairly easy to put in, but we need to know what data you'd like plotted - can you provide more information on this?

Thanks,

Simon

All done - you can now access the Carb Counting list using the "Carb Counter" link in the DAFNE Tools menu to the right >>

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Type 2 & DAFNE

Hi,

I received this question via the Contact DAFNE Online system so thought I'd post it here as the Admin team are DAFNE Graduates, thus not well-placed to answer this question. If we could get an HCP response for this it would be much appreciated:

"Hi I just want to know. If you can tell me something. I'm type 2 on insulin and on metformin i was told i was unsuitable for the DAFNE course, can you tell me why. and is they any help for people like me." (User name and contact details supplied)

Thanks,

Simon

An update on the pie charts - you can now access pie charts via links underneath your diary display in the BG diary function. There are two options currently; one which will display the chart for all of your results, and one which will display results for the currently displayed diary entries (chosen using the date pickers above the diary page).

This gives you a nice graphical representation of how you are doing in terms of BG targets.

Let me know what you think of this, and as always if you have any improvement requests.

Topic: General Discussion / "Balance" letter about injecting in public

Hi All,

I just wanted to invite some comments on a letter I read in this months Diabetes UK magazine, Balance. It was a response to a letter in a previous issue, and reads:

"I was astounded by the letter from the man whose wife injected herself at a restaurant table while dining with friends ('Injection etiquette', Your health: Dear Richard, Jan/Feb 2009 Balance). How anyone can think this is acceptable is beyond me, but Richard's reply made it seem that anyone who might be upset should look away. Personally, I'd be disgusted if someone at the table did this, and I'm a nurse! I would be angry at that person's lack of consideration for others. The lady may not want to inject in the toilet, but if she is eating at a decent restaurant then they should be perfectly hygenic and a far more suitable place for such and intimate act." - Balance, Mar/April 2009, P.11

Now at first glance I thought this was a joke... But then was a little shocked to read that this person (a nurse) sounded deadly serious about it. I was wondering what other people's thoughts were on this - do you feel comfortable when injecting in public, or do you find somewhere private (e.g. a toilet) to do it?

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries

Hi Emma,

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that this would be a nice feature to have. Unfortunately it's a little more difficult displaying things graphically on the web versus in table format, rest assured though I'll get working on it and update you on progress via this forum post.

Thanks,

Simon

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries

Stew,

Thanks for your feedback, I totally agree and have now sorted that out, You can now put decimal numbers plus corrections in the CP,QA and BI fields in a diary entry. For example, these entries:

8, 8+1, 8.5, 8.5+1, 8.5+0.5

Are now allowed in the aforementioned fields.

If you have any more feedback then please don't hesitate to post here or get in touch.

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries

Hi Louisa,

Thanks for your post. A lot of your requirements seem to relate to a paper-based diary - is this correct? At the moment I'm just looking at implementing one that you can update via this website, and in the future share your diary (if you want) with other site users. Your paper-based comments do still come in handy though, as I need to define a layout for printing the online diary.

With regard to the 'more columns' request - how many is a good number for you? There has to be a tradeoff here between how many entries you can make into the diary, and how it looks on a page (more entries per day may become confusing).

Please feel free to add more comments, the more user feedback we get the better we can make it!

Thanks,

Simon

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries

The team are now looking to implement new features and one requested in the initial meeting was an online blood glucose diary. I'd like to canvas for opinions on what features you'd like to see if such a thing were implemented. First question though - would you want one? There's no point in spending time developing a feature if it wasn't going to be used.

Next - what would you want it to do? Here's some thoughts:
  • Show BG results that you have input in the same format as the one you receive during DAFNE Week
  • Allow you to share it with others (optionally) and integrate it with forums in case you wanted to ask for opinions on ratios/trends.
  • Allow you to set specific targets and show whether each reading is above, in, or below target.
  • Be printable so you can take it to reviews and doctors appointments

Any thoughts are most welcome.

Thanks,

Simon

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Useful link for looking up CPs

Hi,

I found quite a useful site today, at http://caloriecount.about.com. Basically you can search for any food/drink, even branded goods and it will show you the nutrition information for that item, in terms of /100g or per portion. It seems to be a massive database, so might be a good place to look if you are stuck trying to work out the Carbohydrate content of an item.

As an aside, the development team are currently working on a CP list function for the site, and will let you know when that is up and running.

Topic: Site Development / Bug Fixes 11th Jan

Hi,

I've been working today on fixes and updates, some requested by the users, some found by myself, as follows:
  • Added a DAFNE Management user type after Gill's request. Also ensured that a user's level are displayed correctly on forum posts and their user description.
  • After clicking the logout button, you are now taken to the home page rather than the login page.
  • You can now reset your password, if you forget it via the reset password link on the login page. If you request a password reset, You will be sent a new random password via email.
  • Fixed a (somewhat major!) bug which stopped new users from signing up.
  • User bios now display with correct formatting, and the 255 character limit has now been taken off
Thanks to Brian and Gill for bringing some of these issues to my attention. If anyone finds anything else they think is wrong then let me know.

Thanks,

Simon

Topic: Site Development / Settings Bug - Fixed

Thanks for Brian Trench for informing me about this one:

Basically if you clicked the settings link after logging in you were told that you were not authorized to visit that area on the site. This was an error on our part (of course users should be able to access their own settings) and it has now been fixed.

You can all now visit the settings link in the navigation bar to update your profiles.

This highlights the importance of testing and feedback - if you find any more issues like this (where something doesn't work as expected) then let us know via the Contact DAFNE Online link below.

Thanks again to Brian.

Thanks for the feedback on the colour of the navigation bar at the top Gill - I've changed from green to blue to hopefully make the text more legible after a number of users raised this. Let me know what you all think of the change.

Yes - planning on adding more content from the handbook - it would be good to know which sections are in demand from the Graduate/HCP community!

Topic: Site Development / Performance?

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick note to assess the performance of our Webserver - when browsing the site are pages loading quickly, or are they annoyingly slow to load? If so is this at certain times/certain pages or all the time?

Thanks,

Simon

Thanks to Robert for being our most active (and only!) poster so far, its great to see you are testing the site out.

With regard to getting the site out there - I'll certainly be investigating ways of getting us to the top of the Google charts as current Graduates may indeed search for us there. I'll also be sitting down with selected members of DAFNE Central (those that were at the meeting where we all met in Sheffield last year) to discuss ways of getting in touch with current and new graduates as well as those who are interested in the course. I'm hoping that we can get in touch with all the lead educators of each DAFNE Centre, and they can pass on the site info as well as centre code to all DAFNE Graduates and HCPs in their area... Watch this space!

If anyone has info on how to rise up the Google rankings, or other means of getting the message out there for the first release in February, let us know here!

Thanks again Robert for your testing so far!

Topic: General Discussion / Testers - Please Note (Ignore)

Hi all,

I just wanted to clarify the signup/login process as I realise it may cause some confusion.

As we are in testing mode the whole site is protected via a username and password, which is the same for all users and has been supplied to you via email. If you can read this you've already input these details. This is in place to ensure that only the testing group has access to the pre-release site, and will disappear in the full version released later this year.

You also need to create your own unique username, via the Signup link in the bar at the top of the page. This is to create your own personal identity on the site, which will allow you to login and post messages on the forums as well as view other areas of the site intended for DAFNE Graduates. After creating this username and password, you will be automatically be emailed by the site with a link you must follow which will activate your account.

When (and only when) your account has been activated you can Login to the site and post messages on the forums and view other pages in the site.

Note we are currently having issues with some of the automated emails being picked up by some users spam/junk mail filters. If you are expecting an email after signing up, please also check your junk email folder. We are working with our hosting company to rectify this.

If you have any questions/problems then dont hesitate to get in touch with us via the contact link near the bottom of the page.

Thanks,

Simon

Topic: General Discussion / Introductions

Hi everyone, when you get signed up to the site take some time to introduce yourself here...

I'm Simon and I attended the DAFNE Course in Sheffield in July 2007, and I was diagnosed with Type 1 in May 2006 whilst studying for my finals at university (great timing!). I got involved with development of DAFNE Online after seeing how great it was to interact with other people with diabetes over the DAFNE week, and could see the value of sharing stories/experiences/supporting each other - hence this site! If you want to find out more about me, click my username to the left of this post. You can also add your own 'bio' using the settings link in the top right of the page.
