Topic: Questions for HCPs / The Mini Pill, Menstrual Cycle and BI
Hello thanks for your suggestion. I'm afraid I've asked both my GP anddiabetes consultant and they've said the irregularity it causes is normal and to be expected. Also that's it the pill they recommend for diabetics and it's also the safest for an older age group and I have to stay on it. Thanks again. Theresa |

Topic: Site Development / Access to Diary Results In my own experience, basing decisions on results older than a week just don't work. I have made mistakes in the past believing what worked/didn't work according to my diary will/won't work again. It is no use to me to keep records. After the birth of my daughter 7 years ago I was put on Novorapid and Levemir.....at the time neither worked for me and after a couple of years of struggling I went onto Humulin I and Humulin S. The reason for this was because they worked very similar to Actrapid and Monotard which for 25 years worked beautifully. However, Humulin didn't give me much better control and my DSN suggested I go back onto Novorapid and Levemir....I refused point blank, remembering how much I struggled on these insulins.....However, in desperation I changed and, guess what, this time around they are giving me brilliant control. That proves that we shouldn't rely on 'history'. |

Topic: General Discussion / DAFNE Follow-on Training Thats good..................I attended DAFNE at Monklands, but my clinic is in East Kilbride, this may be the reason why I have has no contact........... I also met up a few months later with my classmates to see how we were getting on, some better than others........ |

Topic: Site Development / Access to Diary Results you can see my point though surely, looking back years wont be able to help you now.............you cant change the past................yes, you can look back at previous years control, but all you find out is an indication of what damage may be done, whether it be considerable or insignificant............ but everyone should have the opportunity to keep a hold of there results and take from it what they can............ I have results in the online diary going back over a year, its good to have these results, but they cant provide me with anything, can they? |

Topic: General Discussion / DAFNE Follow-on Training
I did DAFNE at Monklands back in 2008 and have had regular follow ups. At 3 months after the same group got back together to see how we'd come on and share success stories or just how it was going for us. At 6 months I was asked at my regular appointment how DAFNE was working and we both decided I was doing fine. 1 year later I got an afternoon refresher with a bunch of strangers and this was good for me to see how people I hadn't done the course with coped. The times we did our courses were different 2008, 2009 so I don't know if it's a regular thing or not. A couple of months ago I got a letter asking if I wanted to take 1 of 3 different refreshers which from memory were carb counting, exercise and sick days. I had to decline as the times weren't suitable but if they are taking time to go over specifics instead of a general overview of everything then I think that's beneficial. |

Topic: Site Development / Access to Diary Results Don't agree novorapidboi. We are far too complex organisms and need long term data to assess long term change - Years not months. Thanks for your positive comment Simon. Regards Garry |

Topic: Site Development / Access to Diary Results I would expect not that many folk to use the facility, in context with the number of graduates that exist that is............but a few numbers and comments wont take up that much space on the server.......... Realistically though, we should only be concerned with the last 3-4 months, no? |

Topic: General Discussion / DAFNE Follow-on Training My centre has not offered anything as far as I know, but I would like to meet up with my old classmates, and any other graduates to talk about how the course has developed and to discuss our own control observations, help each other out...........But then that's just turning into a social meeting.......... |

Topic: General Discussion / Street Food The stomach is the easiest spot when walking about, and the least embarrassing/most convenient for most.........I personally would just leave the injection until my next meal time, which is probably bad, especially if its a few hours away, but that's me...... |

Topic: Site Development / Access to Diary Results Hi,Even if there was a limit introduced, and there was enough warning, you could export your results to Excel. Then, provided you had a reasonable grasp of Excel, you could have a go at graphing your own historical results. Thats not ideal, but you would still have your info. Colin |

Topic: General Discussion / Forward planning And I gave birth to 2 very healthy children almost 30 years ago when blood testing was done ONCE A WEEK at the clinic. Don't be scared. Just stick to a good healthy diet and you should be fine. It's only the next 30 years that will give you the headaches!!!![]() |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / The Mini Pill, Menstrual Cycle and BI I'm not an expert but I thought the pill was meant to regulate your periods. I'd ask to get it changed. There is bound to be an alternative. |

Topic: Site Development / Access to Diary Results Hi There,So far the site has been up and running since 2008 and we have all diary entries posted in that time still on here. There are no plans as yet to put a limit on number or time of entries stored; however if that changes due to database restrictions then we'll let everyone know. Simon |

Topic: General Discussion / Forward planning There comes a time when we start to think about having children. I have been really excited, until I looked up pregnancy and type 1 diabetics. It really isn't a nice subject to read, the fact the baby can be born with all sorts of health problems, and higher chance of still births.....I am really upset and scared now, something that is meant to be the most natural thing in the world is still controlled by my diabetes. |

Topic: General Discussion / Street Food Many thanks Christine, I think I might need to sit at home and practice injecting into my stomach under a duffle coat for hours until I perfect a discrete and practically invisible technique! |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / The Mini Pill, Menstrual Cycle and BI HelloI was reading some of the posts from last year the effect of periods on blood sugar contor. After doing DAFNE a few years ago I eventually worked out that my menstrual cycle and blood sugar contol was interlinked and managed to work out a pattern and manage it. Then my GP and Consultant said I had to go on and stay on Femuluen, the mini pill. As a result for the past two years my cycle has been over over the place. Sometimes weekly or fortnightly periods, sometimes 3 months without anything. Other times periods lasting for a day then returning about 5 days later. Blood sugar all over the place, can't get to grips at all with how much background insulin I need at different times of the month and I gave up and though I test religiously haven't written anything for ages. Have just started writing blood tests down again so I can analyse as need to get to grips with this once and for all. There is some sort of pattern going on so fingers crossed but has anyone else experienced this? I can go from needing as little as 10 units of glargine a day and having hypos on that to a split of 14 in the morning and 8 at night. Any thoughts or advice much appreciated. Theresa |

Topic: General Discussion / Street Food I know exactly how you feel as I have recently started injecting into my arms which I find is problematic. For years I used to inject into my stomach which was much easier as I'd always find a discrete patch of skin in that area, and believe me, you become expert at slipping the pen under your clothing without looking and carrying on with a conversation However, I no longer inject into my stomach as the area had been over used and has become lumpy. All I can suggest is try using your stomach. Good luck. |

Topic: General Discussion / Street Food Happy New Year to everyone and may 2012 be a happy, healthy year for you. While I was away over new year I ended up eating lots of food on the go as we walked around sightseeing (rather than sitting in cafes etc which I'm much more used to). I found myself worrying about how and where I was going to inject rather than enjoying my food. I often ended up sitting on benches and seats in crowded squares and streets that we were walking through and injecting (it felt to me) publically. It wasn't made any easier, or any more discrete, by the many layers of clothes I was wearing. I'd love to know how others manage to inject discretely while eating outside on the go as I just seem to end up all embarassed and awkward. |
