Hello
I was reading some of the posts from last year the effect of periods on blood sugar contor. After doing DAFNE a few years ago I eventually worked out that my menstrual cycle and blood sugar contol was interlinked and managed to work out a pattern and manage it. Then my GP and Consultant said I had to go on and stay on Femuluen, the mini pill. As a result for the past two years my cycle has been over over the place. Sometimes weekly or fortnightly periods, sometimes 3 months without anything. Other times periods lasting for a day then returning about 5 days later. Blood sugar all over the place, can't get to grips at all with how much background insulin I need at different times of the month and I gave up and though I test religiously haven't written anything for ages. Have just started writing blood tests down again so I can analyse as need to get to grips with this once and for all. There is some sort of pattern going on so fingers crossed but has anyone else experienced this? I can go from needing as little as 10 units of glargine a day and having hypos on that to a split of 14 in the morning and 8 at night. Any thoughts or advice much appreciated. Theresa

I'm not an expert but I thought the pill was meant to regulate your periods. I'd ask to get it changed. There is bound to be an alternative.

Hello thanks for your suggestion. I'm afraid I've asked both my GP anddiabetes consultant and they've said the irregularity it causes is normal and to be expected. Also that's it the pill they recommend for diabetics and it's also the safest for an older age group and I have to stay on it. Thanks again. Theresa

Hi Theresaz,

It is great to know you managed to get your ches sorted out... and upset for you because the pattern is now messed up.

I was on a pill before but came off it because I generally wasn't happy on it. However, I do recall my body messing me around with irregular bleeding and the like, but I also recall the doc letting me know that it would eventually calm down. I have a copper cuoil now and I don't plan to look back.

When I came off the pill ()

Sorry. My phone is being very stupid and my home net connection is non-existent right now. -_-;;

When I came off the pill, I still didn't know my cycle stuff but I knew it was likely to be late based on my early teen period years before the pill. With this I did try just trying to catch a pattern but found I couldn't keep up. I'm currently using a family planning phone app so I know what is going to happen. Are you able to do this too to see if it's any help?

You say your on a pill safer for an older age group. You're not old enough to be menipausal at all? That may be something else to consider.

Whatever happens, best wishes.

Hello JWO - thanks for your reply. I'm now on holiday in Bruges and have only just sorted out the wifi access hence the late reply. I hve just got a blackberry so have been looking to see what apps are available I'm mid 40s so hopefully it's not quite the menopause, but have been thinking of that for the future . . . On a more positive note - even with writing down and analsying my sugars for a fortnight I've managed to get them down quite a bit. Have also remembered that mild hypos are ok so have left them happen and dealt with them. Got my HBAIC about 3 days ago and it was awful btu I'm perserving and going tin the right direction and remembering all my different DAFNE stuff. Thanks again. Theresa
