Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Counting veg If i eat a completely free carb meal i have totake insulin for non carb foods. i tend to count 0.5u to a portion of veg up to about 3 or 4 u, but i have done this over time to work out what i need. If i eat the non carb foods with carbs i dont tend to count them as it doesnt seem make much difference. Strange really![]() |

With regard to JWo's problems with theHTC Sensation, I had the same problems with my Dell Streak, and still do. When running the app on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 however I do not have these problems. The two devices run different versions of Android and I had put it down to this but Marke has a point, it may not simply be the Android version but what each device does with it. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Counting veg Whilst there is some carbohydrate in most vegetables I find that it makes little difference most of the time. I am intrigued by what sjohno says though. As insulin works on carbs, and there are no carbs in meat or fish, why would he need insulin to counteract these? |

I have a blackberry bold and would be happy to test. The thought of inputting blood sugars on the tube etc sounds too good to be true. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / The Mini Pill, Menstrual Cycle and BI Hello JWO - thanks for your reply. I'm now on holiday in Bruges and have only just sorted out the wifi access hence the late reply. I hve just got a blackberry so have been looking to see what apps are available I'm mid 40s so hopefully it's not quite the menopause, but have been thinking of that for the future . . . On a more positive note - even with writing down and analsying my sugars for a fortnight I've managed to get them down quite a bit. Have also remembered that mild hypos are ok so have left them happen and dealt with them. Got my HBAIC about 3 days ago and it was awful btu I'm perserving and going tin the right direction and remembering all my different DAFNE stuff. Thanks again. Theresa |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Counting veg Hi, does anyone out there take insulin for veg and do you follow any hard and fast rules? I'm a vegetarian and found that DAFNE was a bit unrealistic about classing these foods as free, along with things like lentils, when they do clearly raise your BG. From doing some research on american forums they seem to always allow insulin for veg, especially if you're having something like a tomato based stew. What have you found? |

I've found over the years that most bread spikes me, but have recently discovered Bergen bread(mentioned previously - I'm obviously well behind!) and it causes NO SPIKES WHATSOEVER! Amazing stuff. |

Topic: General Discussion / Driving Licence Renewal I've just received my envelope from DVLA, full of forms, for renewing my licence. I'm not anti having to do this, but I do feel DVLA could sharpen up their act, when posting out this request. Fortunately I still have all my marbles, and I rate myself as intelligent. However, it literally was an envelope of jumbled up forms. No covering letter; no particular order to the inserts - hence the first form I read intimated that I had cateracts , and needed to be completed by my optomotrist...gave me a shock...then as I progressed down the pile, this was one form which I didn't need.I would be interested to know what proportion of renewals have to be returned due to missing information - quite high, I suspect, and could easily be avoided. I had the form for renewing my photo ID, so they have obviously sorted that issue. Just my grump for the day, but if anyone works for the DVLA, please pass my comments on ![]() |

Hi, there is a link at the bottom of every page that allows switching between the full and mobile sites. With regards to text entry on a mobile, unfortunately this will always be problematic due to the way mobile phone web browsers and text entry with them works. This is not an issue with the site rather the way the phone works and so is outside of our control. You can try it in both 'views' of the site to see which one is better. We can try experimenting with the layout of the mobile site to improve the 'jumping' but entering text will always be down to the phones implementation. |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Rationale - Please read My HTC Sensation doesn't seem to like the regular site view... How can I select the mobile view myself without having to rely on the site to bring it up? It has shown up once so far this evening but I'm now back on regular view. The main problem I have is the text entry. It's very difficult editing what I've typed without having to delete to get back to the point that I want to edit (like add some text after finishing the post before posting it). The box keeps bouncing around too. ![]() |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Menstrual Cycle, BI Sorry in advance if this has already been suggested, but I recently started using a family planning/menstrual cycle phone app and it's quite remarkable. So far, when the period started, the Hypos started. About a week and a bit later, with fertile time coming, shall see if those highs start hitting!Does 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off sound about right? I've managed to get by with just adjusting my lunchtime and evening meal ratios... Is anyone else finding this? Keep up the good work! |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / The Mini Pill, Menstrual Cycle and BI Sorry. My phone is being very stupid and my home net connection is non-existent right now. -_-;;When I came off the pill, I still didn't know my cycle stuff but I knew it was likely to be late based on my early teen period years before the pill. With this I did try just trying to catch a pattern but found I couldn't keep up. I'm currently using a family planning phone app so I know what is going to happen. Are you able to do this too to see if it's any help? You say your on a pill safer for an older age group. You're not old enough to be menipausal at all? That may be something else to consider. Whatever happens, best wishes. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / The Mini Pill, Menstrual Cycle and BI Hi Theresaz,It is great to know you managed to get your ches sorted out... and upset for you because the pattern is now messed up. I was on a pill before but came off it because I generally wasn't happy on it. However, I do recall my body messing me around with irregular bleeding and the like, but I also recall the doc letting me know that it would eventually calm down. I have a copper cuoil now and I don't plan to look back. When I came off the pill () |

Topic: General Discussion / Logging Pump and Meter Readings I dont pump, but I use the freestyle InsulinX which records all the information I need, however I still write it down on paper, this helps me spot patterns and allows me to quickly enter it in the online diary here at DAFNE Online...So your pump cant export its information? If that is the case, extracting information will need to be done manually anyway, no? |

Sorry - no i can't export pump readings (not that i know of) and the meter readings are exported to their own software which with a lot of playing i can eventually export to a .csv file but thats really more long-winded than manually entering it! It would be ok if i didn't need BG and doses in the same spreadsheet! |

Topic: General Discussion / Logging Pump and Meter Readings Yeah I think i might too! Under each time on the spreadsheet i have 4 cells - BG, CHO, Bolus, Basal. I test about 10 times a day (i know - i'm a control freak ) My pump is a medtronic minimed paradigm and with the amount of doses i give myself it only saves about 3 or 4 days worth of readings. I could stop eating as much but at 7.5 stone i don't really want to or need to :-) I'll keep searching but in the mean time it will have to be manual entries.![]() |
