Topic: General Discussion / Still not working!! Hi Novorapidboi26, first the wine...normally I would go to bed eating something like a couple o biscuits to stave off hypos - it's worked before but last 2 times I've had wine I haven't had the usual Lo-as you see in example here (trifle is not normal for me but the small portion i had shouldn't be different from biscs)?? My body's 'patterns' aren't reliable... And I found out that is a good reason to not be having your BI in the a.m.- re. pre-planning for wineI asked about splitting dose but think HCP wanted to wait for the consultant to make any decision about splitting it as BMs have proved so shifty/changeable and the insulin seems to stay around longer in my body. Anyway the BI checks is a good idea as a start, thanks- I'll try that. |

Topic: Site Development / Injection site list Hi Simon,Good question! I usually enter my data on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 so I guess that means I'm using a phone app. If I select the Online icon from that app that connects me with the actual site though, does it? Kind regards, Roger |

Topic: Site Development / Browser Remembering Credentuals... I use it a my workplace, only because I prefer Firefox and allows me to not store cookies/history...........its not important really, its just other sites it does remember my details, which makes me think it is on your end, however as mentioned, my home version old Firefox does it fine, which leaves only one variable, the portable version.............. |

Topic: General Discussion / Still not working!! As your on Levemir now, you should really be thinking about splitting it, it is most commonly used in this way..............This means you can have a reduced dose at dinner/before bed, and therefore eliminating the overnight hypos, and then a higher dose in the morning to keep you steady during the day............ Has this been discussed with your team? Have you done any basal testing to see where you need it most etc....? I think your background requirements need evaluated and a split is on the cards, until this is established any advice on insulin carb ratios would be inaccurate....... ![]() P.S. Having a glass of wine does not mean you should not take insulin for the carbs you eat after it, as the effect of the alcohol wont happen till much later, usually a reduction of BI is used to fend of alcohol induced lows, however this is only possible on a split dose, there is much more flexibility on Levemir, the reason I assumed your team put you on it, no? |

Topic: General Discussion / Still not working!! I am waiting to go on the pump as my diabetes refuses to behave- although my HCPs have been working on it with me. Approx. a month ago I changed from 14u Lantus @11a.m. to 14u Levemir, which seemed to give more stable BMs through the day. But after a couple of days with things looking better, 14Levemir caused early hours hypos and that didn't stop until I was down to 12u and then had another couple of Hypos early morning so reduced Levemir again to 11u. Now BM is elevating. Reviewed things on Tues. with HCP and she recommended against changing BI upwards again (to 12u) and gave me suggestions of limits on corrections. She seemed to think highs I had last w/e were a blip but I am not so sure now. Thinking maybe I should start changing my ratios. They've now set my targets between 6-11 as I have tendency towards black-out hypos and up to 12 hr rebound high Bms afterwards. They say the first thing is to get rid of hypos. Course I'm not happy to run high but it might be better than extreme up and downs as a basis. Complications of kidney disease and gastroparesis, they think ,cause my body's unpredictability and QA (Humalog) staying in my system for 8(ish) hours at times. Does anyone have any ideas please? I don't see the consultant 'til mid Jan. With my complications, folks might not want to comment, which I'd understand- things can work differently with complications. Thanks, Emma |

Topic: Site Development / Browser Remembering Credentuals... Hi, This is a 'client' issue not a server issue. By this I mean password etc are stored by the local browser NOT the site, so the problem will be somethnig to do with the browser. I have not really used firefox portable so its hard to comment, however I would go into the password manager in the portable version and make sure there is no entry for dafneonline. If there is I would delete it and then try to get firefox to remember the site again. Googling it there does seem to be a number of issues with firefox portable and passwords.Personally I have to say I do not use the save password feature and would never use it on the portable version. This is probably because I am paranoid about security and would not trust it. If you lost the USB stick with firefox portable on, it would only take someone with security knowledge minutes to break the password on your password file and have access to all your passwords and the sites you use them on. But its your choice what you do with your data ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Doing it the DAFNE way !!!! there are guidelines.........lots of hypos due to sensitivity...............HbA1c of above 8.5 even after intensive MDI............they are the main ones I suppose.................being able to manage your diabetes or at least have the skills and knowledge to do so is a positive, as its the most intensive option and takes a lot of work.............I wouldn't of thought your circumstances would get you one, as most work places should accommodate you, if they are not that's a problem, however its a postcode lottery, you could get one very easily where as I, in Scotland would struggle to even discuss the possibility........ |

Topic: General Discussion / Doing it the DAFNE way !!!! Welcome from me..........I can totally understand how you feel as I felt the same, I still do I suppose however my own personal diabetes management has evolved from the simple DAFNE principals to one more suited to my own body...... This will happen with everyone......... Has the decision to go on a pump been made or does it depend on the outcome of the DAFNE program.......? |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Ten days on after stopping my Levemir Sorry for not responding before but I thought one of the nurse educators might reply. Anyhow, as you would have realised Fiona, diabetes due to pancreatic problems produce quite a different pattern, with people being very sensitive to insulin. this is in part because you are still making some insulin which always helps a lot (that is why people find Typical Type 1 diabetes easier to manage during they honeymoon period) but it is also because the pancreas also makes glucagon which pushes glucose up. Take this away and just small amounts of insulin can have powerful effects on lowering glucose. Actually some people with pancreatic diabetes (as opposed to Type 1) can do quite well on small doses of premixed insulin twice daily and it might in the end be simpler although this approach rarely works in Type 1, hence us advocating DAFNE. Topic: General Discussion / Doing it the DAFNE way !!!! Hi GuysAs a type dibetic of 25 years i thought i knew all there was to know about Type 1 diabettes , how wrong i was. I completed the Dafne course 3 weeks ago, after an initial setteling down period and working out my ratio i have to say that i have never been in more control than i am at the moment. My confidence is sky high, i dont worry about doing anything at all as i am fully aware of my sugar levels. and the bonus is you can eat what you want to when ever you want to !!. I know im not telling you anything you dont already know but i just wanted to shout it out !!!!!!!! I am hoping to get a pump in the new year as in my line of work i find it very difficult to check my levels on the odd occasion when perhaps i am feeling a bit low. Dafne has certainly set me on the right track to get one though. Regards.............Macka !!!! ![]() |

Topic: Site Development / Injection site list Hi Simon,When I inject two insulins at the same time (more or less) I use two different locations - QA in left thigh, BI in right thigh for example. I wonder if it would be possible to put a site location button under each insulin box and associated with it so that it could be recorded accurately where the injections are made. If this is a problem then perhaps we could treat all body parts the same, i.e. buttocks, thighs, arms. Kind regards, Roger |

Topic: General Discussion / getting a pump I was given a pump 3 years ago because I was having a lot of hypos and was finding it difficult to control with injections. I have to say it was the best thing that could have happened to me. Since having the pump my control is much better and hypos are very rare now, so it made a great difference |

Topic: General Discussion / steroid injections Welcome to the forum........No personal experience but I have heard that steroids do elevate blood sugar levels throughout my travels on the support forums......... If those levels are producing ketones then yes, you could apply sick day rules................... So if I remember correctly, if you can eat normally but still have a small amount of ketones, then check for them every 4 hours, appropriately dosing for the ketones on top of any carb doses...... So the trick is to test for ketones, as these are why the rules exist, I hope the effects dont last to long............. ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / DAFNE HCP's are wonderful I was in the Armed forces when i was Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and sent to the local civilian hospital. I started to get a lecture from a rather overweight consultant about weight management etc. I was fit as a fiddle and not over weight so just gave him a knowing smile which stopped him in his tracks and made the nurses laugh.![]() |

Topic: Site Development / e-mail reminders of DAFNE existence Take a look at the Users tab, and the number of subscribers with zero posts![]() Many will have signed up after their course finished, and then had other priorities in life. A reminder certainly wouldn't harm, and the more traffic the site generates, surely that must be a +ve for us all. GFI |
