Topic: General Discussion / 7-day waking average Its a pain when you need change the background dose, but also good that you need less insulin.....a test tonight on the 16u without food after would be interesting...........the sandwich and rolos may have pushed you up to 8.5...... |

Topic: General Discussion / Continuous Blood Glucose Monitor Yes I am going to get one in January. I've looked on the internet for info on it and watched videos on YouTube of how it works, how it is fitted etc so feel ok about it. I'm sure it will be an eye opener as to how my blood sugar is reacting. It is measured every 5 mins or something and you can get graphs and all sorts of lovely technical stuff! Something to look forward to! |

Topic: General Discussion / Continuous Blood Glucose Monitor Not had one personally or seen one in person, but I believe the sensor is similar to a pump cannula in size and in fitting.the sensor sits at a similar depth to the cannula and measures the glucose levels from the interstitial fluid as opposed to the blood. So I think if you were to compare your BG and CGM readings there would be a alight delay on the CGM, so its good for spotting patterns and I suppose with a little tweaking could be used all the time as a method of monitoring glucose levels. Are you going to be getting one....? |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Eating out - help Hi Pauline, you may have estimated the CPs correctly but the effects of the fat (butter and cream) and protein from the fish may have caused the food to digest more slowly giving a delayed peak in blood glucose. If you ever see James Martin make mashed potato, you'll see it's equal parts potato and butter! Were you back in target 4-5 hours later? It's important that you don't react to high readings 2 hours post meal as the insulin would have still been working. It is always going to be an estimation when eating out and it's always better to underestimate if you're out and about and correct at the next meal if necessary. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Eating out - help Hi PaulineWe eat out regularly, and I still haven't got it right yet. The only listings for eating out are for the big chains such as McDonald's or Wetherspoon's which are not places I go to. As Novorapidboi says it is a guessing game which is made more complicated by the fact that some chefs will add sugar to "improve" the flavour. I once chose what I thought would be a nil dish only to find it unusually sweet and yes, experienced a massive spike afterwards. All I can suggest is give it your best guess and err on the upward side. Be prepared for a spike and deal accordingly. Don't beat yourself up if you get it wrong, after all you're outside your control zone. Make a note of where you were, what you chose and what value you gave it. Then add how close your estimation was so you know for another time. When you find yourself coming close, which you will, allow yourself a sense of achievement. ![]() |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Eating out - help How much the carb counting is guesswork? When eating out, the error risk is higher but if your okay any other time, if it was me, I'd assume it was carb counting error on this occasion.Hope this helps. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Tim Tam Cheesecake OK everyone. I need help working out the carbs for the below recipe. I posted the Method as well in case anyone else on here wants to make it.Ingredients 2x 200g packets of Tim Tam biscuits 80g butter, melted, cooled 1/4 cup boiling water (60ml) 3 teaspoons gelatin powder 375g cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup caster sugar (125ml) 1 teaspoon vanilla essence (5ml) 1 cup thickened cream (200ml) 180g block white choclate, melted, cooled Method 1. Process 300g biscuits until fine crumbs. Add cooled butter. Process until combined. Press Mixture over base and side of a 20cm round (base) cake pan. Refrigerate while preparing filling. 2. Place boiling water in a small heatproof jug. Sprinkle over gelatin. Whisk with a fork until gelatin dissolves. Set aside to cool. 3. Roughly chop remaining biscuits. Using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add cream. Beat until combined. With motor running, gradually add cooled gelatine mixture and cooled chocolate, beating until combined. Fold in biscuits. Spoon mixture over base. Refrigerate overnight or until set. |
