Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Iphone Apps Hi SimonIve had the app for a couple of days now and just wanted to comment on the quality and simplicity of the functions you have created. I cant tell you how delighted I am that the DAFNE interfaces have got 21st century. It is having a very positve effect on my overall control and willingness to keep a full and complete diary. I always found the paper diary quite a barrier to continued entries, especially for snacks and drinks outside of nornal main meals. However having the app in my pocket at time of consumption is brilliant. Keep up the good work |

Topic: Site Development / Forum improvments Hi, I'm new to all this having just seen Anitab for a yearly catch up group session. After she installed the virtues of Dafne Online I thought I'd start using it. On thing I would like to suggest (if no-one has done so already)...... Can you consider a "Sick Day Rules" section? Perhaps linking it to our personal BG info so that it can calculate the Total Daily Dose based on our last day's BG entries and then serve as a reminder as what to do next. I'm a very sickly person at times! and when I'm not well I tend to get confused and forget whether or not I should count my BI as well as the QA insulins. Then theres the list of percentages to look down. Am I looking down the right one? Just how many times to I have to double and triple check I'm doing it right before I finally get some insulin in me?! I think this would be a great thing for young elderly and middle-aged alike and to help boost our confidence to know we're doing it right at a time when we feel ill and vulnerable. I just thought it could further help to take the guesswork out of things (or in my case, reduce my error rate!) However.... if you already have this on your site.... do let me know where 'cos I can't find it. Ladybob |

Topic: General Discussion / spiking early evening Are you on Lantus or Levemir? - and how many injections a day? It may be that your base insulin is running out in the evenings. Also did you drink anything with meal? |

Topic: General Discussion / spiking early evening Type 1 for 12 years - Dafne for 4years. Seem to have developed new problem during early evening. Last night score of 10 before supper - only had 2 small potatoes with meal, plus fruit afterwards. Have regime of 3:1 in evenings of humalog so injected 12. Bed at 11.00pm and score was 19. Had normal basal insulin + 6 extra humalog. This morning score of 10. Have noticed this trend for last few days. Anyone recognise this pattern? |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / McD's Took our youngest to our local McD's this evening, and she discovered that printed on the reverse of the paper thingy that they put on their trays when serving meals is a comprehensive nutrition listing for all their products - including carb info. I knew that they have this info on their website, but this is really useful.. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Iphone Apps Hi Brian - thanks, some constructive comments there. I'd be interested to hear other users thoughts on how the data is inputted - happy to go with the majority on the best way to input things. In the next update I'll add something to allow you to map times of day to entry types.Karl - thanks, it was too late to get that change into this version, but will be fixed in the next update. Keep the feedback coming! |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Iphone Apps Great stuff Simon on the App have posted comment on itunes regarding some issues I forgot to mention that it always defaults to breakfast when inputting data could this be worked off time settings. I have been using diabetes diary very good app and much easier to input figures through keyboard / wheel click have a look. Well done good to see progress being made. |

Topic: General Discussion / Dawn Phenomenon Well, I've tried it for a week at home and my highest waking blood was 8.8, it used to get as high as 18 before so it does seem to be helping. I'm just having one or two pernod and diet cokes (lovely) before bed.I'm hoping it has a good effect on my hba1c as that is 8.7 but I am normally well controlled during waking hours. |

Topic: General Discussion / Drinking I think it would help if we could press the Food Agency into providing appropriate labelling of carbohydrate content on alcoholic drinks as provided on other foods.Labelling always gives you %age Alcohol By Volume which is useful to most but does not meet our specific needs. I remember years ago when Holsten Diat Pils was launched in the UK that it carried carbohydrate information back then, but I've never bought it for many years so I don't know the current situation. Have never seen any CP values given on wine labelling. As it comes from all over the world it may be hard to get any interest in any inititive. Must admit that I almost always drink dry wines and have over the years come to neglect any potential CP involved. On rare occasions when drinking desert wines I am always careful to guess! and add some CP into my calculation. So why don't we press to get this listening goverment to meet our needs. We could get a petition together over the net and with strong support may be able to change drinks labelling. |

Topic: Site Development / Forum improvments hi, bit late on this one sorry, but as the 'cynic' that sits on Simons shoulder in the development team I have to say 'remember' me functions are a bad thing and I would recommend you never use them. I would not implement one on the site due to security considerations. I'm sure it sounds far fectched to those not directly involved with the IT industry and secuirty but ANY information disclosed by you is a weapon for the bad guys. If we remember your login and someone else gains access to your account they could obtain personnal details about you. Add these to stuff they find about you on other sites ( especially if you 'remember' your logins) and it could be enough to forge a credit card application or scam someone that they are you. Most of us think that just happens to others and won't happen to me, it CAN happen to you and when it does its too late to get back all the information you have put on facebook/twitter etc. Sorry but account security ranks above convenience for me. |

Topic: General Discussion / Drinking I agree with mark2, it does depend on the wine, but most normal wines, red and white, dont have any significant effect on your blood, apart from later when the livers glucose releasing function is impaired........You may want to consider the food you had for dinner, assuming it was in the evening.... If it was a high carb meal your sugars may have spiked...........also the length of time from drinking to actually going to bed would be relevant........... Again, as mark2 says, the effects on people are different, so its really a trial and error excercise when drinking............. |

Topic: Questions ? / dawn phenomenon... how to stop the rise? Hi there stacy.....welcome to the forum......I too suffer from dawn phenomonon and always wake up with double figures apart from once in a blue moon when I am on target with no apparent reason...... As you may have been told already 'dawn' is simply just a natural hormonal response which triggers the releas of glucose from our livers in the morning to assist in getting us up and ready. All I have simply done is experimented with different background insulins, as well as time of dose to try and get the numbers down...... Sometimes a dose of Quick Acting insulin to cover a pre bed snack together with your background can help as its dual action, I find that if its toast or something similar then I will wake higher than normal as its released too slowly for the quick acting to catch, so something released fairly quickly or with a low GI is good.......thats just me though.. I am now on Humilin I as my background as it has a peak in it, unlike Lantus and Levemir... I couldnt confidently say it has had an effect but it seems to keep me down to about 11 and 12 in the mornings....... Its really all about experimenting with your doses and trying to trick your body in some ways to minimise the glucose dump......I have had no real success....... I can assume your backgound is correct at this point? For me its not having an effect on my HbA1c at the moment, and as long as it keeps getting better I can live with it..... But as you say rising with high readings does make you feel rubbish and tired........ My conclusions are to initially try upping your BI dose if you havnt already and consider consulting with your team about different insulins to take advantage of the different onset, peaks and durations, as well as having a snack before bed so you have some quick acting working as well......... In the end you may never come down, and if it is effecting your daily activity and pushing your HbA1c up then the only thing left to try is a pump..........they have been proven quite effevtive in tackling 'dawn' due to the ability to increase the dose of BI automatically whilst you sleep......... Sorry for going on for so long.......... Keep us all posted |

Topic: General Discussion / At the football all the replys are good ones just do it where you are, but sometimes i like to go and do it just some where else and the mens toliets are not a good place as they are dirty.so i have a radar key cost no more than £4.00 and you can get them form ost disability shops or mobility shops as than you can go into the disable toliets as they are much cleaner than the main toliets. |
