Im sure I didnt see any 0s, sorry mate..............

Thats clears alot up mate, your corrections seem to be bang on then, it suggests you might be aiming for the 7s and 8s as opposed to the 5s and 6s, would you agree.......dont know if your trying that delberately.........but if you added 1 more unit on you would be bang on each time, in theory........

So to me your doing well, apart from the odd anomoly everything seems to be following the rules...................

Hi Novarapidboi.

Thanks for the reply. I find the Dafne team at Monklands 1st rate, many times I would call them for advice and if I couldn't speak to someone I would always be called back as soon as possible. I've also been sharing my online diary with a few of their HCP on here and getting advice on not so urgent matter

My BI insulin is Lantus and Novorapid for QA.

My morning readings are all corrections which I mark with "0+" and the amount of units I take. I'm basing my corrections on the 3:1 ratio that 1u will decrease my BG by 1 etc, but it could be read as guesswork lol I don't mark it as a correction because comparing morning readings as Breakfast gives an indication on the graph, I find the visual indicators, colour schemes etc a big help.

As for my results, I had thought that I need to test and compare night time with morning readings but the big problem is that I just don't want to eat during the day, I'm hungry at night which totally throws the readings out. I'll bear it and starting tomorrow night and will have nothing after my evening meal so it's only BI working and see how it looks maybe till Monday and take it from there.

Cheers.

Hey,
Thanks a million for your advice, believe me my control was unbelievebly bad before i did the Dafne course, it really has worked wonders for me. I've only completed the course a week ago n have been constantly watching my sugars and at the moment 'i'm happy with them, except of course my morning sugars.

I think for the next couple of days I will wake at different hours to check roughly what time it is happening to me and try and work something out from there, and if none of that works I'll adjust my insulins and see how that goes. Its very didheartening to have good control all day and then wake up sky high...

Well I had my HBA1c done 3 weeks ago and it was 10.3. I have diabetes 10 years now and 9.8 was the lowest I've ever had it. I am looking forward to my next HBA1c to see if Dafne has made a difference.

Paula.

Hey there................

Its really hard to make out whats accurately going on, especially in the mornings as you are giving yourself insulin, but theres no food written down.........so determining whats carbs and whats correction is hard......

At first glance you seem to start off high and continue to be high throughout the morning and afternoon, with a few exceptions..........this could be your BI dose, as its one dose I can assume lantus, this might be running out towards lunchtime etc.......... a split dose of levemir insulin might rectify that.........

dawn phenomonon might also be taking place..........

Initially I would start by increasing your 18 units of BI to maybe 20 and observing the morning result, without having anything to eat before bed, this means its only the BI working.......in theory if your the same as you went to bed, the dose is right, although it might not be lasting the full day......

try that and come back with a few days results......

Oh and I am a Monklands man myself, well done the course there anyway.......how do you feel the post dafne support is there?

As far as I am aware they do use mmol/l, think australia is quite close to the healthcare of the UK..............most meters have the ability to switch anyway.....ultimately you know what you should be aiming for and the HbA1c should be universal.............

When do you go over...........will it be forever.......

Hi folks,

Fell off the way a lot recently due to personal circumstances and an attitude that made me hate my diabetes. Long story short is my recent Hba1c went down by 0.7% from 9.6 to 8.9. Not great by any means but it's the first decrease in over 18 months and want to make that even better.

I still did my BM's along the way but failed in bothering to write them all down which shows in my online diary entries I'm not proud to say. I do now have a Onetouch Ultrasmart after 3 months waiting and it's great! It's neat being able to have CP's, insulin dose, readings and even exercise, health checks, Hba1c etc in one place.

Anyway, I'm failing to see where I need to start adjusting my regime and am rusty on my Dafne basics. Can anyone give suggestions on where to go from here after looking at the results.

If anyone wants to see the whole diary, just ask and I'll be happy to share.

Topic: Questions for HCPs / High bgl in the morning.

Hey,

May I just say how good your control is, how do you do it......what do you eat, nothing....lol.....

Theres nothing there that rules out dawn phenomonon, the actual process starts to begin at different times with different people I would imagine, and may even be influenced by the bodies internal clock.

I would almost definetly say it starts after 3am, I also suffer badly from this, between 16-19 every morning. I too changed my background and done 3am and the results were fine, but at 6.30 they were sky high............I am at a loss too with mine.......I have tried not eating, eating cheese to slow down glucose release, taking extra QA, even risking hypo but nothing worked...

I think you should try similar strategies to knock down the result a bit. With the rest of the day though, I believe your HbA1c will be pretty good anyway, regardless of the high morning..........what was your last HbA1c??

I dont pump but may need to in the future......the stories I have heard are good, much tighter control, as close to normal as possible...............obvious problems can come with them like leaks, batteries and other similar problems, but if you have been offered one, take it.........

Jennifer, I've never been attracted to them personally, but know of three of my fellow DAFNE graduates (we still meet socially) who rave about them. On that basis alone I would recommend them.

Go for it gal . . .

Hi Jennifer. I was always put off them because of the thought of sleeping with it attached but I've been offered one now and I'm looking forward to getting it going. My BSGs seem to bounce about whenever they feel like it and hopefully the pump should help me get a bit more stable
I'll let you know as soon as I get used to it if its for me or not!

Excellent work simon. Really nicely incorporated tweaks and mods there. The keypad entry of BG and insulin doses is great. I think a new bug has appeared on the entry type list though; it won't let you scroll down without flicking back and so the lower entries are inaccessible (such as correctional). The predicting time of day feature is nice.
Thanks again
Jez

Topic: Questions for HCPs / High bgl in the morning.

Hi
I've been having high bgl readings every morning and am almost sure its not the Dawn Phanonomom, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what else it could possibly be because every other bgl is perfectly in target including bedtime. I've tried increasing Levemir at night but end up with low sugars. I'm stuck.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
Whats' the view on pumps then? I've always said 'no' as I felt it might cramp my style - I've since realised I have no style, but seriously, is the vibe these days a positive one and do they work?
