Topic: General Discussion / Holiday turkey Hi guysHope some one can help here im off to turkey in 6 weeks time and need a letter from the doctors at Glan clwyd hospital Wales, now the doctor i spoke to when i did the course in feb this year told me he would do it for me when i needed it without a charge. Now i have been emailing him to see if he can do it and have had no reply from him and dont really want to pay £15 for a letter from my GP. Which is the best way of getting hold of one of these letters. |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Android app I've published the new version of the app, 1.2.280, that fixes this problem by supporting the new entry types on https://play.google.com/ (the new name for Android Market). Note that it takes a while for the new version to show up on the site.Note you can check the version of the app you are running by scrolling to the bottom of the "settings" page. Keith |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Android app Hi,Tricki emailed me about this and looking in the recent error reports the problem is indeed that the Android code is breaking because of these new entry types. I'll post a fixed version this weekend. Keith |

Topic: General Discussion / The Best Meter?
Hi Anni, Many thanks for your response, the Accuchek mobile sounds interesting - I like the idea of the cassettes rather strips, I guess it's down to whatever you are most comfertable with as one particular meter will not suit everyone ![]() It's interesting how many different types of meters there are out there, all with their own unique/handy features. Think I will play around with the Contour as it seems a lot more up to date than the Optium Xceed. Kind regards, Anele ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / When is best to take BI Levemir I currently take mine at:Morning: mostly around 7.30am, depends when I wake up though... so maybe better to say, between 6.45am and 8.00am. Evening: mostly between 7pm and 8pm. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Dawn Phenomenon possibility? Hi all,I have been having a lot of trouble getting my doses right. My biggest problems seem to be over night... and I'm beginning to wonder (after so long of being stubborn) that I have the dawn phenomenon thing on top of it all. I have posted up my last week of results and as you can see, if I have 1:1 ratio on most meals (particularly note the after lunch and evening stuff in this case), I tend to hypo... sometimes quite badly. At the moment my "set up" is: All meals: 0.5:1 QA/CP Morning BI: 9 Evening BI: 18 A correctional 1 QA seems to take me down by roughly 4 points, not the usual 2-3. Took a lot of hypoing to work that out. My insulins are (QA) Humalog and (BI) Levemir. I manually inject using pens. So, can anyone see a pattern? I will be trying to do a during the night test to rule out during the night hypos, but considering morning highs have been quite common for me, I haven't been too worried that I'm hypoing considering my results have tended to be 8.5 or something when I've tested before. Since then, after speaking to my DAFNE team, I have been advised to concentrate on before bed stuff... make sure that my meal hasn't been leaving me high all night... but I dunno, I seem to rise. Doesn't help either that I've also been trying to rule out that massive shifts are also being caused by "time of the month" - this has not been as successful a workout as I hoped because there's too many other factors to consider. I feel so sad when I've yet again hit a 17-21 BG again due to reasons I cannot see. ![]() My DAFNE nurse thinks it's odd that I'm all 0.5:1 across the board but I'm reaching a point where I'm wondering if that's really how's it's got to be considering if I adjust my BI over the day, I either go really stupidly high or I start hypoing at different points during the day depending. It has been an endless battle. -_- Thanks in advance for any helpful replies - especially from those with experience of DP. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Croissant the Rubicon As a type 1 you should be able to have any foods with insulin timing.....What was your pre breakfast blood glucose reading......? Was there any corrections....? Do you realise there can be different corrections ratios for higher blood sugar readings.....? Some foods can be difficult to deal with but it's usually to do with the different absorption rates.... |

Topic: General Discussion / loosing weight ideas? Welcome to the site......Are you having many hypos to go along with your hunger...... I am also overweight so can't give any real advice but I do know that bring active will reduce your total insulin dose and therefore allow weight to come off easier.....obviously not giving in to the hunger and keep your calories under control...... As I say this is advice I should take, I am a well built lad so am on larger doses bit my recent activity has been knocking off some background units.....I am reducing my calories but I think that I need to go below 2000 a day even though it's saying more than that on all the calculators.... |

Topic: General Discussion / The Best Meter? Hi Anele,I have just gone over to the Accuchek mobile, and i love it. The main plus for me was it uses a cassette (like an audio cassette but with 'testing tape' ) so no strips to wrestle with/dispose of/be eaten by my baby! I'm not very techie so was relieved it seems fairly idiot-proof, and uses ordinary small batteries. It also has a fingerpricker that is attached (but removable) to the side of the meter. All in, it means no need for a case, and it does resemble a mocile phone so i find it draws less attention in public - maybe it's the lack of juggling with individual parts that makes the difference there! My only reservations so far are that it is a little noisy when 'winding on' to the next test and also it's quite bulky compared with other meter units, but as i said, no need for sticks, case etc so doesnt take up any extra room in your bag. Kind regards, Anni ![]() |

Had a big breakfast this morning including a croissant. I gave the appropriate dose including 2cp for the croissant. Two hours later bg is 23.2 . Gave an extra four iu and before lunch was down to 14.8. I then tried some research. I gave an extra four for the high bg and 1.5x2 for lunch which was a croissant. Three hours later and bg was 15.8. Can I conclude from this that croissants drive my bg mad! I had not been hypo leading up to this. Has anyone found foods that have a similar effect? Its just a little bit crazy! Moflaherty |

Topic: General Discussion / The Best Meter? No, there is a code you need to put in to change certain settings, however if your DSN thinks you can cope, which is likely if you completed DAFNE, then you can get the code and change ratio/correction/insulin duration etc all on your own......... |

Topic: Site Development / DAFNE Online iPhone application - help with content/design needed Hi Julie,It's good to know the app works for our blind users as well so thanks for letting us know. Have you enabled the Diary Upload function on the settings page? If so then a popup window should come up with any problem information for the uploads and downloads; does the iPhone read this out to you? Simon |
