Hi all, I was wondering what is the most favoured Meter?
I currently use an Optium Xceed but my dad is a Pharmacist and he gave me a Glumen GM to try and have also received a free Contour USB meter recently.
I haven't used the Contour yet and have only used the Glucomen once but certainly the finger pricker device for the Glucomen is really good and the Contour one looks good also but haven't tried that yet.
Certainly, I find that the original finger pricker device that came with the Xceed was sore (for me anyway) but I got a new Blue one when on my DAFNE course last year which is better and thankfully takes the same lancets.
I like the Xceed as it also takes Ketone test strips but thankfully I haven't had to use them much so not sure how much of a difference that would make when comparing the other meters?
Has anyone struggled getting lancets or strips for either the Glucomen or ther Contour as so far I've never had an issue with getting strips for the Xceed?
Any comments/thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Hi Anele46,
I'm currently using the Contour USB meter which i personally think is fabulous! If you have a pc then you can download the Glucofacts deluxe software and basically with your meter just plug and play ie download all your readings, graphs etc. You can of course just use the meter as an ordinary meter.
The finger pricker for my Optium Xceed died on me and i had to get another one. I've still got my Optium Xceed meter incase i need it for ketones. I much prefer the finger pricker which came with my Contour USB meter, it seems much stronger.
I don't have any problems getting lancets or strips for the Contour USB meter.

Hi Gill, Thanks so much for your comments Sounds like the Contour is a hit given you only use your Xceed for checking for Ketones The only tiny thing that I didn't like about the contour and the glucmen is that the strips come in a tub rather than the individual strips for the Xceed which makes the carry pouch a bit more bulkier than the Xceed but that is me being picky but find my handbag is full of diabetes kit that I take everywhere I go which makes it a bit easier to cram in the Xceed but that is me being picky as I said How often do you have to charge the Contour as not needed with the Xceed (as you know )? Cheers, Anele.

I use the freestyle insulinX which calculates your dose for you...................its not perfect, but I don't think I could back to a bog standard meter now......

Hi Novorpaidboi, I've never heard of the freestyle insulinX - sounds cool though as it calculates your dose I'm quite happy doing the calculations however I do like my gadgets and the Xceed is looking rather dull and boring and looking to be getting traded in for the Contour Thanks for your comments Cheers, Anele.

Hi Anele,
You're welcome!
I charge the meter each time it reaches 1 bar. Also it charges up when it's plugged into your pc.

For me and I would hope most folk using the InsulinX the dose calculation is only a backup to our own mental arithmetic.......
you would need know what you were doing however as it has to be issued under the supervision of a DSN.....

Cheers, Anele.

So no chance of setting up this particular meter on your own

I see, will prob explain why I haven't heard of it given it needs to be issued via a DSN Cheers Anele.
