If you think the proposed changes to the NHS are a step too far, perhaps you'd like to sign a petition to stop them: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22670

Cant seem to find much about it, or in this case, the negatives................

The thing that most concerns me about the changes is the proposed dissolution of local Health Authorities (or Primary Care Trusts or whatever they're called now) and the resposibilities and budgets being transferred to GPs or GP groups. I know that PCTs do get things wrong, but I think that on the whole, they do a pretty good job.

I would much rather have my GP spending most of her time on medical matters rather than administrative tasks. I know that she is against this as well - when confronted with a large report regarding the proposed changes and a questionnaire to fill in after reading the report, said that this was NOT what she had spent 5 years at medical school for.

I accept that the NHS has to change, but the changes should be piloted in appropriate areas and the results evaluated before the changes are imposed nationally.

That's why I signed the petition.

Hello, Blue Labour wasted all the tax bucks paying high wage adminstrators, the NHS has to come to terms with the real world now.

Considering that most of us diabetics are dependent on the NHS for all our medical care, I would have thought that the major re-organisational changes to the NHS that are proposed are a concern to all of us.

I don't think anybody knows the full impact of these changes, but that doesn't stop me being concerned about them.

Yes, I apologise to all for raising this in the first place.

I don't think there is anything wrong with discussing this here, would be better in an 'Off Topic' section, but currently there is none............ Very Happy

Alan, No need to apologise for me its a valid concern and there is no reason it shouldn't be raised. It potentially WILL affect DAFNE so is hardly off topic. If people want to sign the petition they should if they don't no one is forcing them to. I agree people posting stuff that is NOT about the changes but their views on party politics is not very helpful.
The biggest issue for me and a lot of the NHS staff is the implications have not been fully considered or if they have they have not been discussed with the NHS. I am not against the bill in principle I have to say, however its far from clear how it will work and how it will affect Diabetes services. It could mean things get better or it could mean things get a lot worse. In an ideal world, the DAFNE Programme would be sold as a 'service' to GP consortia potentaily making it available to be a lot more Diabetics. Sadly I suspect it will not be that simple.
Anyway you DO get my vote to discuss it on the site.
