For the past 4 years I have had increasing difficulty getting about because of the pain I get in my right buttocks and thigh when I am walking. The pain is so intense I can hardly breathe and doesn't go away when I rest. The muscles seem to go into cramp and I have difficulty straightening my leg for ages afterwards.

It was suggested by the rheumatologist that this could be caused by neuropathy as the pain seemed to follow the path of Shingles which I had had prior to these problems starting.

Now I seem to be at an impasse with no one able to help. The tablets prescribed by my GP either don't work at all or have intolerable side effects.

The doctor at the Diabetes clinic wants me to see a vascular specialist despite me having no problems with the lower legs and feet.

My symptoms fit Proximal Motor Neuropathy (according to Internet research) or Diabetic Amyotrophy, but no one seems to have heard of these conditions.

Is there anyone on the Forum who has similar problems or who has any suggestions as to what I could do next? Are there any specialists in Diabetic Neuropathy anywhere in the UK?

Hi hazbol,

This is interesting to me as it may explain the increasing pain in my hips, even though the joints are fine. I hope that someone can give you the information you need, which may be of benefit to me too.

Best of luck,

Roger
