Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled hi, I don't think its a flash issue, its more likely to do with version of java and the programs we use to draw the graphs. We ARE aware of the issue, however Simon is out of computer access at the moment and I am trying to get my test version of the site back upto date so I can properly investigate this. Since we do the site in our spare time and I have stuff I need to do today i'm afraid its unlikely to be fixed before then, sorry.Try turning your computer on and off again. It won't fix the problem but it will give you something to do while you wait ![]() |

Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled I don't know this for certain but just make sure Flash is enabled also. I use an android tablet... Java is enabled but Flash is not. The latest versions of android no longer support flash which I believe may also be required for these graphs and charts. I don't have an iPad but from memory Apple does not support flash either. All works fine...but graphs cannot be viewed. Would be nice if this could be improved somehow, especially for the huge increase in people using tablets now to log and store this info.![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Thanks NuMo,You are probably right re the not eating enough - my meals are sporadic but always have been. I am trying to eat more regularly but old habits die hard. Pre diagnosis I would happily go 3 days without a proper meal and probably survived on my numerous cups of tea with two sugars which has now stopped. Pre bed last night was 18.9 had 30g carbs (ready meal so stated on packet, was at 17.2 pre meal had 4u QA + 5u BI, the bed time reading was only an hour later. Woke up at 12.9 BI 5u and just tested again now at 11.5 3.5 hours later but as yet have not eaten or had anything except cup of tea. Keeping notes etc is very hard as am out and about alot and normally very active but this last week due to feeling so awful not so much so. Discipline is really something I need to concentrate more on but the more pressure I put on myself the harder it is and I just end up feeling like I don't end up wanting to eat by time have worked it all out etc. I run my own business etc and am terrified of loosing my licence so really worries me to have a hypo but also am now feeling dreadful and cannot function properly being so high, whereas a few months ago I was sailing along nicely at 15 and if got any lower was the most awful person to live with! 'sigh' |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Hello Skyesmum.Welcome to Dafne. Like you I am on 0.5 - 1 ratio, and like you directly after the course (October) my bg was all over the place. Only this last week do I feel that I am getting somewhere close to target, but I am still not getting a useful pattern, so I have a bit of a way to go yet. Don't lose heart. We have the extra annoyance of being highly sensitive, and what I have discovered is that being very sensitive and working with small doses means that the slightest error either way causes a huge swing - again, either way. This means that if you take an interim reading, before driving for example, you can really give yourself a scare, but if you can "ignore" that reading and wait till the pre-meal one, it often is down somewhere reasonable. Be as accurate as possible with your carb counting, weighing as much as is feasible and using a calculator if necessary as a miscalculation of just half a CP can make a massive difference. Keep your liquids up. I notice from your first post that your carb intake seems modest. Are you eating enough? If your body thinks it is short it chucks out reserves which can show as a spike. Make lots of notes so you can learn and take the information to your follow up. With Dafne, you have the information to take control of your life again, it's just that for we hyper-sensitive ones it takes longer to get there. Best Wishes |

Topic: General Discussion / My BG (Trending) Diary - All Comments Welcomed HiLooking at the 2.8 BG any data after that for a period of 12 hours I personally dismiss What in your opinion caused the sudden drop the 4.2 BG was already indicating something was going out of what you had calculated. You only took BI between your bedtime 11.4 and the 6.7 morning yet you had 4CP's If I had done that it would have risen not dropped. After you take the BI of 10 units it goes up to 12.7 If all was correct it should have stay around the 6.7 +- 1.5 You keep your same ratio at dinner and have to correct which you've done on a previous day That's a pattern Ask yourself why you are having to correct and look at the ratio's you took before this point and the times Although you where high BG on the 1st days there where constant after dinner. The area to look at is the morning since that is the important since what ever you done after this point is a reaction to something you've already done. Set yourself a week Start at 6am with your BI and breakfast with CP and matching QA Test every 2 hours to see that you aren't going low this will set your QA ratio Correct only after the 4 hour period Don't worry if you have high BG's its if their consistent that's important. Once you have a consistent BG you then adapt it to your target by increasing or reducing the ratio of the QA To set the BI for the evening check your bedtime BG to your morning BG Remeber if your taking the morning BI at 6am take the evening at 6pm I found putting 1 week of my life to getting things correct the rest is a bike ride Of course its your decision All my opinions are from my experience and are what I've done to correct any movement away from the targets I've set myself. Hope you find the issue |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Welcome. As Garry says viewing your diary would help. Highs on waking could be a sign of nighttime hypos but without knowing bedtime values etc its difficult to tell. May be worth doing a 3am test to check what's going on. I am also on a 0.5:1 ratio (even lower at breakfast) with a half unit pen! Vicky |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Welcome![]() It seems from your ratios that you are insulin sensitive. So steady as you go. Would you be confident enough to share your online Blood Glucose Diary with us? Between us all we should be able to offer some good support for your situation - but need information to help. Regards Garry |

Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled I am unable to view my BG dairy graphs. This title is supposed to offer explanation. I have installed the latest update 7.21 or whatever it is......and have used the Java site to eliminate any earlier versions...switched off and rebooted...Reminds me of one of the Engineers at work - who has now retired - every time he had trouble he would phone the computer department and spend goodness knows how much time on the blower - eventually to be told...try switching the computer off and on again. He waited some three years...but yes his time had come...the heating in the Admin block had failed and the computer department phoned up to complain that they were freezing....and he was responsible for utility services...to be able say to them....have you tried switching it off and on again...it was one of his favourite stories as he had waited so long to get his own back! So can anyone help? Simon? Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Hi,Am a DAFNE Graduate from beginning of April, found it very useful but seem to of lost my way a little. Was diagnosed last June and has been a bit of a mindfield really. After DAFNE have been doing quite well, although this week I am really struggling. Am on 0.5u QA - 1CP so was given a half unit pen - same insulin which is great, however this week despite checking the pen works and needle etc is dispensing insulin when I inject is making no difference to my BG. Today for instance woke at 12.9 have had a very small sandwich for lunch (small breadbun) had 3 units of QA and still gone up to 15.9 so have had an additional 2 units. Feel absolutely dreadful and have been checking for ketones - monitor says none at moment though was at 0.3 two days ago but managed to get rid of those over 4 hours of small doses of insulin. I have always been high and felt fine and now I just feel rotton but cannot seem to bring my levels down - if I dont eat I stay stable (though still high) so feel sure my BI is ok I am on twice daily 5 units of levimir. Any suggestions? I work on my own in my own business so a bit frightened to go mad on cranking up the QA too much! TIA |

Topic: General Discussion / Exercise Thanks everyone for the advice and feedback. Most appreciated. I took a 4 day break from cycling and now back again for 2nd day today. I agree that it appears to need more frequent BG testing for the hours that follow the cycling activity, Yesterday the 15th was good but today not so, Extra CPs before exercise when BG was not high were not sufficient and obviously it needs BG tests after the exercise and CP top ups before hypo develops.I am sharing diary for last 3 days here. |

Topic: Site Development / Date/Timestamp of posts
Thanks Marke for the feedback. Obviously I have not thought of the technicalities in implementing such a change. I definitely would not want or expect the updated post to reposition itself in the list of posts and replies. Probably to implement would need a creation date and last updated date fields and the last updated date/time field used in the lists that show the most recent updates and how long ago that was. The post itself could show both dates creation and last update. I say all this without really knowing how the forum technology is developed and whether it is standard off-the-shelf technology with no scope for changes or bespoke application where one can add extra data fields. |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Thinking of upgrading iphone 3GS to a Galaxy. Anyone got any views on this? Hi the app will work on both, in terms of the app you are unlikely to see much difference between the 3GS and a galaxy. The galaxy will be faster generally because it is newer but so will an iPhone 5. as the O2 Ad says there is always a better, faster phone around the corner. Its personal preference at the end of the day and I don't want to get into that debate![]() |

Topic: Site Development / Date/Timestamp of posts Ok, the first point. re-dating posts would potentially cause problems, if people comment on a post and the posts are re-ordered based on dates then the comments would be out of context. Ideally you shouldn't be editing posts very often, its more of an exception than a rule. If you want to update a post just post again referencing the original post. With regards to removing diary entries, I would say don't put them on in the first place, or at least think carefully about what you are putting on the forums for general consumption. Recently people seem to be posting large amounts of Diary entries in posts. Personally I think this overwhelms people and reduces the number of comments. We can look at allowing the removal of Diary entries from posts however as with the comments above if you do that then peoples subsequent posts on the Diary entries won't make sense if they are removed. |

Topic: General Discussion / Fundraising Walk for Diabetes I should also point out on Leighton's behalf that the DAFNE programme are trying to help with this by providing his team with DAFNE tee-shirts etc. I hope we can all get behind this effort. He is also helping to provide the online petition for Diabetes Structured Education at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk which seems to have stalled a bit at the moment![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / CareSens meters Hi, I cannot comment on the CareSense, I have seen one briefly but never used one. I think you suspicions are correct with regards to motives though.I attended a meeting organised by my local NHS people before Xmas regarding the selection of 'preferred' meters , this was promoted as being to make giving advice about them more straightforward if local Diabetes Nurses only had to work with a few. However it was also about cost reductions. For your info the CareSens strips cost £12.75 approx and the OneTouch Ultra strips cost around £15.07 so that is potentially a large saving. However in my area the 'rationalisation' of test strips was for Type 2's only and T1's are to continue using their current meters without change. Its not at all good that you are being asked to change your meter without a proper meeting and explanation of the reasons and if told if you are actually being given a choice about changing. Change is not necessarily a bad thing but it needs to be done in the right way. I know some areas of the country have just imposed change without consulting the local Diabetics, however that has not gone down very well and most areas seem to have learnt from this mistake. |

Topic: General Discussion / My BG (Trending) Diary - All Comments Welcomed Mon 13/05 - Wed 15/05Can anybody see if there are any trends I am missing? Have done today a meter control solution test - all was ok ![]() Also wondering of 2 possibilities: 1. changing BI back to once a day instead of a morning & evening dose - not really happy about this because I feel happy in myself atm doing the split dose 2. upping ratios slightly from 1:1 to 1:1.5 |
