Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? Alan, the freestyle optium strips are about £15 for 50. Now I'm not a mathematician but even I can work out that's not £2 per strip, I'm surprised you are getting this attitude from you GP I suspect its not CCG policy. I am working with the CCG's in East Kent and its definitely NOT the policy there. There is still a PALS in your area their email is [email protected]. Contact them, tell them what your GP told you and ask if its policy, they should be able to resolve the issue. |

Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? Alan...Need to explain to her that urine test strips give an indication of what was happening 6 to 8 hours ago....not now. My consultant 35 years ago agreed that at the time...the same physical rules applied as long ago, when he used to issue them then...as then - there were no other home sampling methods available.Times have changed. It is 2013. Yes they are £2 a pot because nobody uses them. They are useless to put your current situation right. Current sample strip at £2 a sample...well that's fine seeing as I have used about 4 boxes of 10 strips in the last 4 years...and one of those boxes of 10 ran out of date! We all need have the attitude to face out our GP over this kind of tosh. Say that until you sort out my needs....I'm not moving out of your surgery. We must be prepared to challenge a GP and say that GPs must give back some of the additional fees that they get from the Department of Health, for you as a diabetic, in the prescription needs that you have personally. Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? I was given the freestyle optium on my DAFNE course in February, and the only issue I had was for the first 4 weeks GP gave me one box of glucose strips at a time so was at surgery every week...it's now changed and get 4 boxes at a time and was originally given 2boxes of ketone strips...which I haven't needed to use but they are on my repeat! Can't believe your GP refusing them Alan! |

Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? I was given an Optium Xceed meter for blood-testing ketones on my DAFNE course. When I asked my GP to add the test-strips to my prescription request form, she said that the strips were £2 each and were too expensive. She would only give me the urine test strips - which she said were £2 per pot. |

Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? Very sensible your DAFNE team as the Freestyle Optium has ability to do Ketones, by prescription available, ketone specific test strips.Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? Hi i was stripped of my one touch meter about 2 years ago and given a care sens one , ive since been on the dafne course and now been changed to the freestyle optium , as they said the care sens is only suitable for type 2 diabetics. Not sure my local surgery is going to like this but we shall see. |

Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels Yup. I bare my BGs in mind everytime, since 0.5QA can drop me by 3BG. I aim for 6BG since it sits nicely in the middle of the 4-8 ideal range. |

Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels I always just used the target 5.5 for all my bg readings.....if I was 4.0 or above though I would just dose up as normal.......my pump us nor programmed with a target of 6.5, so if I am below this, the pump will take units of my mealtime dose.. |

Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? Thought I'd just update on my new machine. It stopped working properly yesterday and I've been issued a new one with minimum hassle today.I'm a bit appalled though - none of my old machines have ever packed up within a year of use like this iCare Advanced machine. :/ |

Yes thats what I want to do - I used to be able to select a graph - with the dates I want, usually 1 graph was since i started Dafne, then the rest would be on monthly basis - 1 graph per month, and i could easily select the graph and print it out with the dates - it is far easier to show trends by using the graphs. I have loads of paper that I used to take to the GP with all the diary print outs, with graphs, now I can't print out the graphs - and it is a tad annoying |

Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels Definately! If previous QA is out system and target higher end would round up. but if at lower end would round down...am insulin sensitive so a little too much can send me hypo! Also need to consider corrections if BGs high |

Hi Aphriel. You are getting great advice from everyone although they are all correct in the need to try and get you blood glucose as tight as possible as quickly as possible. However getting pregnant with an HbA1c of around 7.4% is really pretty good and should reassure you. The problem is that pregnancy makes insulin less effective (insulin resistance) due to the hormones being produced but as Anele46 points out the amount of insulin resistance and hence the adjustment in ratios and background insulin varies hugely. Also people are often much more susceptible to hypos in the first third or so of pregnancy for reasons which are aren't altogether clear. I am also not clear why they want you to reduce your background and I would contact them early if this doesn't work. The team in Cambridge have lots of experience of pumps in pregnancy and this may well be your best bet if your morning glucose doesn't come under control as the pump allows you to reduce your background rate in the early part of the night (when risks of hypos are greater) and then automatically increase the rate in the early hours to prevent your glucose from being too high when you wake up. Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels As well as "rounding up" or "rounding down" carbs do you also consider your BG levels ie low end of target (but not hypo!) & higher end of target? Thanks in advance for any replies ![]() |

sorry not sure I understand your question/request. You mean you want to be able to print just the graph and not the rest of the page that surrounds it ? Could you do this before ? I'm afraid that Simon usually takes care of this part of the site and I have never tried to print the graphs before.... |

Marke For me I can see the graph on my lap top, but can't print out the graph, which I like to do for a) the whole time I have been using the diary, and b) month by month as it is far easier to see trends using the graphs - and when I am showing or explaining the my GP - a visual representation of all the data is far easier for them to take in. I know you are busy and have done a fantastic job keeping the site going, but I would love this feature to make a come back at some point ![]() |
