Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled
Marke For me I can see the graph on my lap top, but can't print out the graph, which I like to do for a) the whole time I have been using the diary, and b) month by month as it is far easier to see trends using the graphs - and when I am showing or explaining the my GP - a visual representation of all the data is far easier for them to take in. I know you are busy and have done a fantastic job keeping the site going, but I would love this feature to make a come back at some point |

Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled All, I think I have fixed it !! Let me know if the graphs are STILL not working for you. The graphs do NOT use flash, unless Simon tells me otherwise, they are ALL Java based. This is because Simon is an Apple-Fanboy and would never dirty his hands with something like flash |

Topic: General Discussion / bosses If they want to use that as an excuse, you should point out that means its even more reason to help you. It does sound like they are trying to discriminate against you and they're treading a serious line if you are Type 1.Diabetes UK have a helpful advocacy pack for helping with these sorts of situations - particularly regarding your rights as a diabetic in employment. Alan also very helpfully suggests getting in contact with your unison/union rep if you are a member. I agree with him. Hope it all goes okay. Keep in mind that if nothing changes, your health will likely suffer.. and they have to help you. If they don't, they are breaking the law IMO. |

Topic: General Discussion / Sponsor Me for Diabetes Walk Diabetes UK: WALK FOR DIABETES at Walsall Arboretum on 9th June 13Last September time I was suddenly diagnosed with type1 diabetes after a long time of symptoms going blurred vision, headaches, tried all the time, dehydrated and my GP wrongly diagnosed me which is potentially life-threatening, I was upset at the fact that the symptoms where extremely easy to associate with diabetes but where never tested for it, until I became so ill with DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis) and was hospitalised. I found it hard to come to terms with this illness which led me to become so more ill with depression which I came close to giving up, My glucose levels was on the raise and getting worse my depression was making me bed bound, aside all that I still came to work fighting through the long hours and feeling like “I think you get the pictureâ€. I needed help! I went to my new GP and my blood tests came back and they were worse than when I was first diagnosed, we didn’t understand what was happening to me. I heard my GP on the telephone to my hospital doctor explaining my results that have come back and the only thing I could make from listening up the door was “Renal Failure†“I thought oh my god, that’s it my body is falling apart†my pancreas and now my Kidneys, I already have a 12 cholesterol and a slow acting thyroid. I thought come on give me a break!(in a humorous manner) My GP advised me that all these medical problems was just from my Diabetes, from my blood glucose levels been continuously high, she recommended that I attended a DAFNE course. In April this year I attended the 5 day course which changed my life completely I am now in target of my glucose levels have reduced my slow acting insulin and living a more active and free lifestyle and not feeling so low or tried. I know what I went through and I know other people out there feel the same and it’s time to change. Diabetes in the long run is known to cause problems but you can change this by looking after yourself NOW. I am trying to raise £200 for research for Diabetes UK and also promoting DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating) course for people in the backcountry to attend, There GP has to pay for the course so that’s why people don’t know about DAFNE. My aim is to promote DAFNE at events all over the place because I believe it shouldn’t have to be a postcode lottery it should be available to everyone. DAFNE have an e-petition to the UK government, Studies have shown that structured education has improved the quality of life for those people who have taken courses by empowering them to manage their condition with greater confidence. In the long run improved control should hopefully save the NHS money by reducing the long term complications associated with having diabetes. Please support this petition so that a nationally funded structured education programme can be established that ensures that the highest standards of education apply nationwide." Follow this link to sign the petition http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/41345. ALSO don’t forget to please Donate and let’s get more research into Diabetes so it can change of lives. Thank you http://www.justgiving.com/Leighton-Webb |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here If you keep thinking that running at 15 is OK - then I'm sorry, you face a dim future. Are you able to test for ketones? If your current meter does not provide you with this facility, you need look for another that does. Your lack of food may be part responsible, as others have suggested. You must put in the time needed for you....to get a grip of your situation. Please take this reply only in a wholly positive way. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Bless you, Skyesmum. It is really tough isn't it. I don't have any solutions, but can make some suggestions.Running your own business takes a lot of discipline, so you are not short of it, it just needs a slight change of direction. Also, when you run your own business, often your own needs get neglected - they seem low priority. Think what would happen to your business if you weren't able to look after it. So, looking after yourself is part of looking after your business. I know what you mean about driving. I too prefer to have a good safety margin when driving, but I can't really say I am happy about it. Another learning curve I guess. Having glocotabs/jelly babies/whatever handy to use before BG drops below the limit I find reassuring. We only need half as much to get BG high again because of the 0.5 : 1 ratio. Keeping notes is a bind, but can prove worth the effort. I use the Dafne diary - it's slim and easy to pop into bag or pocket, but then I'm not very clever with smart phones and such. Do you have a voice facility for your Dropbox app? If you could speak your notes as you go along you could then collate them as appropriate later. Just a thought. I too have found that my body will no longer put up with the big highs it used to have to. I start feeling grotty at a much lower figure nowadays. In a way I am pleased about it because it means I am achieving better control. I am also finding that when I get irritated easily or am snappy it is often a sign that a hypo is in the offing, not very sociable but perhaps I can get better control of that too in time. If it's any help, my family tell me I am much nicer to live with now, so I guess I must have been a right Jekyll and Hyde at times! |

Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled hi, I don't think its a flash issue, its more likely to do with version of java and the programs we use to draw the graphs. We ARE aware of the issue, however Simon is out of computer access at the moment and I am trying to get my test version of the site back upto date so I can properly investigate this. Since we do the site in our spare time and I have stuff I need to do today i'm afraid its unlikely to be fixed before then, sorry.Try turning your computer on and off again. It won't fix the problem but it will give you something to do while you wait |

Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled I don't know this for certain but just make sure Flash is enabled also. I use an android tablet... Java is enabled but Flash is not. The latest versions of android no longer support flash which I believe may also be required for these graphs and charts. I don't have an iPad but from memory Apple does not support flash either. All works fine...but graphs cannot be viewed. Would be nice if this could be improved somehow, especially for the huge increase in people using tablets now to log and store this info. |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Thanks NuMo,You are probably right re the not eating enough - my meals are sporadic but always have been. I am trying to eat more regularly but old habits die hard. Pre diagnosis I would happily go 3 days without a proper meal and probably survived on my numerous cups of tea with two sugars which has now stopped. Pre bed last night was 18.9 had 30g carbs (ready meal so stated on packet, was at 17.2 pre meal had 4u QA + 5u BI, the bed time reading was only an hour later. Woke up at 12.9 BI 5u and just tested again now at 11.5 3.5 hours later but as yet have not eaten or had anything except cup of tea. Keeping notes etc is very hard as am out and about alot and normally very active but this last week due to feeling so awful not so much so. Discipline is really something I need to concentrate more on but the more pressure I put on myself the harder it is and I just end up feeling like I don't end up wanting to eat by time have worked it all out etc. I run my own business etc and am terrified of loosing my licence so really worries me to have a hypo but also am now feeling dreadful and cannot function properly being so high, whereas a few months ago I was sailing along nicely at 15 and if got any lower was the most awful person to live with! 'sigh' |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Hello Skyesmum.Welcome to Dafne. Like you I am on 0.5 - 1 ratio, and like you directly after the course (October) my bg was all over the place. Only this last week do I feel that I am getting somewhere close to target, but I am still not getting a useful pattern, so I have a bit of a way to go yet. Don't lose heart. We have the extra annoyance of being highly sensitive, and what I have discovered is that being very sensitive and working with small doses means that the slightest error either way causes a huge swing - again, either way. This means that if you take an interim reading, before driving for example, you can really give yourself a scare, but if you can "ignore" that reading and wait till the pre-meal one, it often is down somewhere reasonable. Be as accurate as possible with your carb counting, weighing as much as is feasible and using a calculator if necessary as a miscalculation of just half a CP can make a massive difference. Keep your liquids up. I notice from your first post that your carb intake seems modest. Are you eating enough? If your body thinks it is short it chucks out reserves which can show as a spike. Make lots of notes so you can learn and take the information to your follow up. With Dafne, you have the information to take control of your life again, it's just that for we hyper-sensitive ones it takes longer to get there. Best Wishes |

Topic: General Discussion / My BG (Trending) Diary - All Comments Welcomed HiLooking at the 2.8 BG any data after that for a period of 12 hours I personally dismiss What in your opinion caused the sudden drop the 4.2 BG was already indicating something was going out of what you had calculated. You only took BI between your bedtime 11.4 and the 6.7 morning yet you had 4CP's If I had done that it would have risen not dropped. After you take the BI of 10 units it goes up to 12.7 If all was correct it should have stay around the 6.7 +- 1.5 You keep your same ratio at dinner and have to correct which you've done on a previous day That's a pattern Ask yourself why you are having to correct and look at the ratio's you took before this point and the times Although you where high BG on the 1st days there where constant after dinner. The area to look at is the morning since that is the important since what ever you done after this point is a reaction to something you've already done. Set yourself a week Start at 6am with your BI and breakfast with CP and matching QA Test every 2 hours to see that you aren't going low this will set your QA ratio Correct only after the 4 hour period Don't worry if you have high BG's its if their consistent that's important. Once you have a consistent BG you then adapt it to your target by increasing or reducing the ratio of the QA To set the BI for the evening check your bedtime BG to your morning BG Remeber if your taking the morning BI at 6am take the evening at 6pm I found putting 1 week of my life to getting things correct the rest is a bike ride Of course its your decision All my opinions are from my experience and are what I've done to correct any movement away from the targets I've set myself. Hope you find the issue |
