Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels I always just used the target 5.5 for all my bg readings.....if I was 4.0 or above though I would just dose up as normal.......my pump us nor programmed with a target of 6.5, so if I am below this, the pump will take units of my mealtime dose.. |

Topic: General Discussion / NHS Medication Changes: Are you affected? Thought I'd just update on my new machine. It stopped working properly yesterday and I've been issued a new one with minimum hassle today.I'm a bit appalled though - none of my old machines have ever packed up within a year of use like this iCare Advanced machine. :/ |

Yes thats what I want to do - I used to be able to select a graph - with the dates I want, usually 1 graph was since i started Dafne, then the rest would be on monthly basis - 1 graph per month, and i could easily select the graph and print it out with the dates - it is far easier to show trends by using the graphs. I have loads of paper that I used to take to the GP with all the diary print outs, with graphs, now I can't print out the graphs - and it is a tad annoying |

Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels Definately! If previous QA is out system and target higher end would round up. but if at lower end would round down...am insulin sensitive so a little too much can send me hypo! Also need to consider corrections if BGs high |

Hi Aphriel. You are getting great advice from everyone although they are all correct in the need to try and get you blood glucose as tight as possible as quickly as possible. However getting pregnant with an HbA1c of around 7.4% is really pretty good and should reassure you. The problem is that pregnancy makes insulin less effective (insulin resistance) due to the hormones being produced but as Anele46 points out the amount of insulin resistance and hence the adjustment in ratios and background insulin varies hugely. Also people are often much more susceptible to hypos in the first third or so of pregnancy for reasons which are aren't altogether clear. I am also not clear why they want you to reduce your background and I would contact them early if this doesn't work. The team in Cambridge have lots of experience of pumps in pregnancy and this may well be your best bet if your morning glucose doesn't come under control as the pump allows you to reduce your background rate in the early part of the night (when risks of hypos are greater) and then automatically increase the rate in the early hours to prevent your glucose from being too high when you wake up. Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels As well as "rounding up" or "rounding down" carbs do you also consider your BG levels ie low end of target (but not hypo!) & higher end of target? Thanks in advance for any replies ![]() |

sorry not sure I understand your question/request. You mean you want to be able to print just the graph and not the rest of the page that surrounds it ? Could you do this before ? I'm afraid that Simon usually takes care of this part of the site and I have never tried to print the graphs before.... |

Marke For me I can see the graph on my lap top, but can't print out the graph, which I like to do for a) the whole time I have been using the diary, and b) month by month as it is far easier to see trends using the graphs - and when I am showing or explaining the my GP - a visual representation of all the data is far easier for them to take in. I know you are busy and have done a fantastic job keeping the site going, but I would love this feature to make a come back at some point ![]() |

Topic: Site Development / Javascript must be enabled All, I think I have fixed it !! Let me know if the graphs are STILL not working for you. The graphs do NOT use flash, unless Simon tells me otherwise, they are ALL Java based. This is because Simon is an Apple-Fanboy and would never dirty his hands with something like flash![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / bosses If they want to use that as an excuse, you should point out that means its even more reason to help you. It does sound like they are trying to discriminate against you and they're treading a serious line if you are Type 1.Diabetes UK have a helpful advocacy pack for helping with these sorts of situations - particularly regarding your rights as a diabetic in employment. Alan also very helpfully suggests getting in contact with your unison/union rep if you are a member. I agree with him. Hope it all goes okay. Keep in mind that if nothing changes, your health will likely suffer.. and they have to help you. If they don't, they are breaking the law IMO. |

Topic: General Discussion / Sponsor Me for Diabetes Walk Diabetes UK: WALK FOR DIABETES at Walsall Arboretum on 9th June 13Last September time I was suddenly diagnosed with type1 diabetes after a long time of symptoms going blurred vision, headaches, tried all the time, dehydrated and my GP wrongly diagnosed me which is potentially life-threatening, I was upset at the fact that the symptoms where extremely easy to associate with diabetes but where never tested for it, until I became so ill with DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis) and was hospitalised. I found it hard to come to terms with this illness which led me to become so more ill with depression which I came close to giving up, My glucose levels was on the raise and getting worse my depression was making me bed bound, aside all that I still came to work fighting through the long hours and feeling like “I think you get the pictureâ€. I needed help! I went to my new GP and my blood tests came back and they were worse than when I was first diagnosed, we didn’t understand what was happening to me. I heard my GP on the telephone to my hospital doctor explaining my results that have come back and the only thing I could make from listening up the door was “Renal Failure†“I thought oh my god, that’s it my body is falling apart†my pancreas and now my Kidneys, I already have a 12 cholesterol and a slow acting thyroid. I thought come on give me a break!(in a humorous manner) My GP advised me that all these medical problems was just from my Diabetes, from my blood glucose levels been continuously high, she recommended that I attended a DAFNE course. In April this year I attended the 5 day course which changed my life completely I am now in target of my glucose levels have reduced my slow acting insulin and living a more active and free lifestyle and not feeling so low or tried. I know what I went through and I know other people out there feel the same and it’s time to change. Diabetes in the long run is known to cause problems but you can change this by looking after yourself NOW. I am trying to raise £200 for research for Diabetes UK and also promoting DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating) course for people in the backcountry to attend, There GP has to pay for the course so that’s why people don’t know about DAFNE. My aim is to promote DAFNE at events all over the place because I believe it shouldn’t have to be a postcode lottery it should be available to everyone. DAFNE have an e-petition to the UK government, Studies have shown that structured education has improved the quality of life for those people who have taken courses by empowering them to manage their condition with greater confidence. In the long run improved control should hopefully save the NHS money by reducing the long term complications associated with having diabetes. Please support this petition so that a nationally funded structured education programme can be established that ensures that the highest standards of education apply nationwide." Follow this link to sign the petition http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/41345. ALSO don’t forget to please Donate and let’s get more research into Diabetes so it can change of lives. Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here If you keep thinking that running at 15 is OK - then I'm sorry, you face a dim future. Are you able to test for ketones? If your current meter does not provide you with this facility, you need look for another that does. Your lack of food may be part responsible, as others have suggested. You must put in the time needed for you....to get a grip of your situation. Please take this reply only in a wholly positive way. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Hi New Here Bless you, Skyesmum. It is really tough isn't it. I don't have any solutions, but can make some suggestions.Running your own business takes a lot of discipline, so you are not short of it, it just needs a slight change of direction. Also, when you run your own business, often your own needs get neglected - they seem low priority. Think what would happen to your business if you weren't able to look after it. So, looking after yourself is part of looking after your business. I know what you mean about driving. I too prefer to have a good safety margin when driving, but I can't really say I am happy about it. Another learning curve I guess. Having glocotabs/jelly babies/whatever handy to use before BG drops below the limit I find reassuring. We only need half as much to get BG high again because of the 0.5 : 1 ratio. Keeping notes is a bind, but can prove worth the effort. I use the Dafne diary - it's slim and easy to pop into bag or pocket, but then I'm not very clever with smart phones and such. Do you have a voice facility for your Dropbox app? If you could speak your notes as you go along you could then collate them as appropriate later. Just a thought. I too have found that my body will no longer put up with the big highs it used to have to. I start feeling grotty at a much lower figure nowadays. In a way I am pleased about it because it means I am achieving better control. I am also finding that when I get irritated easily or am snappy it is often a sign that a hypo is in the offing, not very sociable but perhaps I can get better control of that too in time. If it's any help, my family tell me I am much nicer to live with now, so I guess I must have been a right Jekyll and Hyde at times! |
