Topic: General Discussion / Help!! Hi, I completed the Daphne course a month ago and things seemed to have going fine until this weekend. My BG's have shot up with no explanation. I don't feel unwell but am really not happy with the results. My corrections don't seem to be doing anything. What do I do now? |

Topic: General Discussion / Raspberry ketone supplements for weight loss You should be very careful where you source this from. It's a well known scam.http://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/house-garden-194/money-finance-entitlements-267/1013369-miracle-raspberry-ketone-scam-warning-all.html My advice would be to buy only after speaking to healthcare professionals and sources them properly from a local supplier. Even then, just avoid! |

Topic: General Discussion / Raspberry ketone supplements for weight loss I was overweight 112 kg HCP kept telling me its the insulin and I believed them, but one day about a year ago I decided enough was enough. so I cut out bread butter all fried foods and started a healthy diet and for me the magical addition to my diet was linseed and chai seed taken with my morning bran flakes now I am down to 87 kg and have never felt better its worth a look at these seeds![]() |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / CP free lunch Hi,This is very interesting topic because that was my main concern during attending DAFNE program just few weeks ago. All my breakfast and lunch meals had almost non carbs during the program, however my BG levels were increasing much higher than my targets. Through all my diabetes years (15 years) now, I learned that not just carbs put my sugar levels up but also protein and some vegetables like carrots and capsicums especially red ones. I shared that with my professional DAFNE educator where she advised me to monitor my BG levels associated with my meals including carbs, vegetables and proteins. It is important to share your records with your educator and your physician to adjust your QA and BI accordingly. Cheers Muna . |

Topic: General Discussion / Correction dose not doing anything Hi Diane,It certainly sounds like dawn phenomenon could be a possible cause of this. The conventional wisdom considers the higher BGs in the morning to be preferable to night-time hypos. If you are finding your BGs are consistently good at 3 am, then your BGs are only high for a few hours for those last few hours of sleep, so don't worry about it too much. |

Topic: General Discussion / Starting the Gym If you find yourself having regular hypos at the gym, then consider doing the gym before work. Often, having no QA in your body while you work out can mean a very low chance of hypos, so if you can exercise before breakfast, then there will be less need to take hypo treatment.I cycle to work and back, and find hypos on the way to work are almost non-existent, but cycling home can be an issue. The end of the day is often troublesome for me. I am having success though at the moment by having a piece of fruit - a pear or a mandarin prior to the cycle home. |

Topic: General Discussion / Vinegar tablets Not so much if I eat different foods, they seem to rise more if I don't eat. Feel like they have a mind of their own sometimes, today for example I've eaten a small handful of nuts and a sandwich at lunch time, I just checked my BG half an hour ago and they're up at 18.9!![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Correction dose not doing anything Hi Diane, this sounds slightly similar to me. I've just recently been told dawn phenomenon is probable. For weeks I kept thinking I must be doing something wrong so was a relief to find out it wasn't anything I was doing! I was advised to check my sugars every hour from 3 AM-6 AM and found it's around 6:30 my sugars start to rise. Eating 5-6 pistachio nuts at 5 AM seems to help me keep them down for a few hours then I take my BI and QA, still a work in progress but hoping it's going in the right direction and hope you manage to get this sorted for yourself![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Vinegar tablets That's brilliant to know, thank you!! Going to try eating the nuts at 5 as my BG is still within a normal range then and eat and take BI at 7:30-8 and if that doesn't work I'll maybe try moving BI earlier for both injections. Feels good to know I'm not only one in this situation![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Vinegar tablets I take my BI at between 1700-1830 in the evening. On work days I take my BI at 0500. Weekends between 8-9. When I'm injecting at 5 in the morning I will check my BG and go from there! They're pretty stable at the moment so I'm doing a 1:1 ratio which seems to work! Instead of a big rise 3-4 hours later I seem to drop by several units sometimes in the 3-4 range! Although I am on my feet pretty active at work! If I've reduced my dosage it seems to go the other way!?![]() ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Vinegar tablets Can I ask do you cover the toast at 5 AM? Yeah the kids keep me on my toes!! I see what your saying, it does make sense but I'm taking my BI 8 hours apart so there's no way it's running out at 7:30 AM if I take it at 11:30 PM. Emailed my BG diary to DAFNE nurse and she's thinking the same as me, dawn phenomenon. Been advised to checked my sugars every hour from 3 AM to 6 AM to see exactly when they start to rise. Said injecting QA half hour before they go up should keep them in a normal range but feeling slightly apprehensive about doing that as it seems to be a bit of a guessing game? |

Topic: General Discussion / Vinegar tablets I reckon that when you're not eating until lunch(when your BG seem to rise). It's probably your BI wearing off!? You're still injecting your morning BI at a set time regardless of when you have your 1st meal with CP's!? Am I making sense Vicki?![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Correction dose not doing anything There must be a reason if you are waking up and are around the 14-16 mark!? You said you are sometimes within 6-7, without changing your BI( Lantus). It's hard to tell without looking at a BG diary over a course of week!? We can try to see a pattern + then tackle it head on!!![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Correction dose not doing anything I've noticed lately that if I am high before bed and during the night and I correct, it doesn't alter my BS i.e. this morning at 4.30 I was 12.8, took 3 units then at 8am I was 11.8. It doesn't seem to matter what time of night I correct either. Does that mean I have to increase my Lantus? Could it be eating something before bed that causes the digestion to slow and therefore the Novorapid can't work properly I do suffer from IBS. When I wake up in the morning sometimes I am 6 or 7, then other times I am double that. When I've done 3 am tests recently my BS has been fine, so I'm thinking my Lantus must be ok. I'm so confused, I almost dread going to bed because of what my sugar does during the night. Can anyone help? |
