Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Android App - Correction for high BG

Mark is right, there is no auto-correction in the Android version. Perhaps we could persuade Simon to move to a better phone and start developing for Android Very Happy

Topic: Site Development / CSV export

The following will handle the data returned in the csv file, with or without spaces around the + or - and return the total. You'll need to replace M7 with the cell containing the data which can be done by Replace function with "Look In" set to formula. There's probably a more concise way of doing this, but this does work.

PS. I like having the corrections with the data in a single cell as it makes it easy to handle it all in one string, but the I'm not looking to undertake calculations but instead to change the display to align breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime readings.

=IF(ISNUMBER(M7),M7,IF(ISERR(FIND("+",M7)),LEFT(M7,FIND("-",M7)-1)-RIGHT(M7,LEN(M7)-FIND("-",M7)),LEFT(M7,FIND("+",M7)-1)+RIGHT(M7,LEN(M7)-FIND("+",M7))))

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / CP free lunch

I've seen the same and was recently by a consultant that when having a Carb Free period to monitor BI behaviour that it was much more reliable to skip a meal altogether rather than skipping carbs but continuing to eat proteins etc. That advice certainly helped me to improve my understanding of my morning BI dose.

Topic: Site Development / Diary Sync?

Hi Oliver,

Do you see an error message when the app tries to upload your entries (when you say tries can you elaborate a bit more on how you know it's trying too) ?

Thanks,

Simon

Topic: General Discussion / Travel

I have discovered through various travel experiences, (but not on a beach holiday!) that a good quality camera bag keeps insulin quite cool ( its worked OK in Las Vegas and San Francisco!) I make use of the room service fridges for stock. At the time I was not aware of the Frio option until I went on DAFNE! As for keeping stuff together: I m still looking for the perfect compact carrier: again camera bag is good but not perfect! Smile And of course NEVER put anything medical in the hold, especially when son decides to go long haul.....

Topic: General Discussion / My last 10 days Bgs

Hi,
Please can I have comments on my last 10 days BGs 250614 - 040714?

Looking at all the drops when it gets to my fasting BG I'm wondering if I may be having too much BI/lantus & whether to drop it by maybe 2u

Topic: DAFNE Graduate Group (DGG) / Nutrition Scales

I've got 'Nutriscales' from Lloyd's pharmacy - it obviously shows the weight of the food, but it comes with a list of food items with code numbers. When you weigh the item, you enter the code and it shows the amount of carbs, calories and other info. I found it all a bit fiddly for my feeble brain, but I think it can be useful.

The web address is http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/lloydspharmacy-nutriscales-17928

Topic: DAFNE Graduate Group (DGG) / Nutrition Scales

I purchased some electronic scales after graduating! I'd recommend getting the Carbs/Cals booklet! Written by Chris Cheyette & Yello Balolia! It gives you portion/plate sizes for you to refer to!

I am a new graduate. Does anyone out there have an opinion on nutrition scales? Are they helpful? Salter make them, but say they are not accurate enough for carb counting for type 1's trying to work out their insulin dose.

A copy of your prescription with your GP's contact details will be fine! My GP told/advised me & I've had no problems!

If possible take two BG monitors. I have had more problems with monitors than anything else...it is just insurance. I also purchased a large soft lunch "box" and used that to store everything (including the trio wallet). Helen

Just a caution...activate your Frio wallet (they are great) at the airport after you have gone through all checks as when travelling I was challenged regarding the "amount" of gel I had as it exceeded the 100ml limit. Ended up OK but took a lot of talking. I then began activating as soon as I went through all checks. Coming home has never been a problem.

Also agree with "bookworm" keep it all with you in hand luggage and insist hand luggage be in the locker immediately above your seat as you know where it is all of the time. You do not want somebody moving it to another location so they can keep their hand luggage in the locker above their head. I say I may need it quickly and need to be able to access it in the middle of the night! I also travel with minimum hand luggage.

Trust your son has a great time. Helen

Been a long time since I've been abroad, but last time I traveled I was told to keep insulin in hand luggage, as it could freeze in the hold. Also, might be worth getting a letter from GP explaining about being diabetic, in case there are any problems at the airport (I think you have to pay for this though).

Topic: General Discussion / Gym

I have no snack ideas unfortunately but I would ask if you could reduce insulin further.......

when do you go to the gym?

is there a basal insulin dose after you go? you could try reducing that?

it also depends on why your going to the gym, general fitness or to lose weight? if the later then an insulin reduction would be preferable, if not a snack may be better.

digestive biscuits may do the trick

Topic: General Discussion / Gym

Hi, I've recently started going to the gym & want some advice on healthy snacks to have before I go (I'm sick of bananas lol). Been advised by my consultant to reduce insulin by 20% on days that I go, which I d, but still finding that my sugar drops quite low afterwards so looking for slow releasing carbohydrate snack/food. Hope you can help :-)

Topic: General Discussion / High Blood Sugars on Holiday

My BGs always go high on holiday. I don't exercise as much which really contributes to it. I often find that I need to drastically (up to 30%) increase my BI as a result.

+1 for the Frio wallet. I love mine and I've heard of people using them successfully in hot places like the Middle East with no issues. Mine has worked well in 40+ degree heat in Melbourne. You can get different sizes. http://friouk.com/
