Topic: General Discussion / My Diabetic Review

My Diabetic Review

Hi,

If it's ok i'd like to let you know how i went on with my diabetic review today 07/12/11. I had a phone call last week off my Dsn saying about my great HbA1c result which was 6.8%.

My bs results are all over the place.
My Dsn would like to see me again in about 10 days time because

1. she was rather concerned about me having a lot of lo's & also the fact of all the jelly babies (i have 4 -6 for each hypo), she wants me to have instead either dextrose gel or tablets

2. she has said to me to lower my BI from 34u to 30u

i've booked my appointment for next Thursday 15/12/11

We need to get used to using the new numbers for HbA1C.
What about some encouragement for you to use them - just a bit of fun - who can tell me in old numbers my HbA1Cs since I did DAFNE?

Something which doesn't make sense to me is that when my HbA1c is this good why when i look back at my bs results are they all over the place?

Thanks.

I'm always worried that i'm doing something wrong, hence all the questions here and the other forum.

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / White Bread or Brown?

novorapidboi26 said:
More commonly type 2s will need to choose there food strategically, so basically, choose foods that have as little an impact on blood sugars as possible, low GI.

Type 1 diabetics taking this approach is also good, but purely a personal choice. If you can eat white bread and get your insulin dose/timing right to manage it without spiking, then theoretically you can eat it without feeling like a criminal......

The burgen bread is lower carb and lower GI, so it needs less insulin and it also gets absorbed much slower, helped by all the seeds etc too.........

Thanks novorapidboi26, i think i'm going to stick with my white bread Very Happy

As you probably guessed from my other response, I will eat any kind of bread, unlike a lot of folk, both type 1 and 2 who choose there bread carefully, I dont know if I SHOULD be doing this, but I dont............. Wink

I so much prefer white bread but an awful lot of diabetics i believe have brown (ie bergen) so i don't know whether i'm doing right or wrong having white.

My mum was a quiet mild mannered lady but once during a bad hypo when we had to call for the GP she told him to F*** off. There was a deathly silence and then we all fell about laughing including my mum. Till the day she died she denied that it had ever happened. Go Mum Go!!!

So how much did you take for your salmon sandwich at 1635..................I would of expected a low before the next morning if this dose was too much though...............

Maybe your BI is too high, either that or alcohol...........!

10u for the salmon sandwich.

I'm wondering if it's the BI which i'm taking too much of, there was no alcohol consumed last night.

Any thought to the reasons behind your hypo?

Hi,

I know the last time i ate yesterday was 1635pm when i had a salmon sandwich & just my usual amnt / dose of QA, didn't have any tea & also no QA then at bedtime / suppertime i had salmon mashed up in a bowl with one or two small pieces of cheddar cheese in, then usual BI???

RE no tea, took pork steaks out of the fridge, they came with the shopping delivery on Tuesday, use by date was 27/11/11 & they were very or the normal pink colour underneath but going browny on top so chucked them as i did'nt want to risk a bout of food poisoning. Hubby said i should've taken them straight back to As--! Anyhow that was the end of the casserole Evil or Very Mad

Wooops!

Early this am (about 0700am when i checked on my meter before) i had a very bad hypo. Apparently i was jerking about in bed, my hubby said he somehow managed to roll me out of bed, fed me the usual, some jelly babies, i "walked" into the bathroom & sat on the toilet in the pitch black, my hubby was asking me if i'd done a test to which i started bursting out into fits of laughter, i woke the whole household (daughter & son) up, then i shouted to my hubby to go & get me a cheese sandwich, which he very kindly did .
When i checked my meter before my bs was 2.8 and yet i've had hypos at this level many a time before and always been fully capabable . Also when i checked my meter i'd done several or should i say lots of tests at the time of my hypo, no wonder my finger is sore today, lol.
I had a headache before but i'm glad to say i feel much better now I had porridge for brekkie and now i'm off to get some lunch.

Topic: General Discussion / Funniest/strangest/worst hypo moment....

Hi,

A few years ago possibly 4 or 5 i went out to Asda, had a cheese salad (cheese, lettuce, tomatoes etc), did a full injection of my QA, maybe 10u as a guess, think i was on Novorapid for QA & Insulatard for BI at the time, then several hours later i had a VERY bad hypo, falling about, banging my head against the wall in the bathroom even turned into a hamster throwing demon & threw my daughter's hamster across the room! I was in hospital for an overnight stay.

I once went through a stage where i was having hypos in a morning & tended to get very aggressive and adament that I was fine when my husband kept trying to "pour" lucozade down my neck.

I've also had them where i laugh hysterically.

Hello, what amazinly fantastic blood sugars from everyone. Mine have been terrible - due to a virus I've had for at least 3 weeks. They haven't been great for a whilebefore that as I've been a little lax well slightly more than a little. Great to finally log on here and find people doing so well. Motivates me to get back on track.

Hi theresaz,
Don't worry we all go a little lax sometimes, i did a while back & then got back into things in September when i met my "new" dsn, she's lovely.....Also, even tho i was a member i made my first ever go of posting topics on here.....Good luck in getting back on track Smile

Topic: General Discussion / What would you do......

if you're a type 1 diabetic on 4 (sometimes more) injections per day, you have 1 pen for QA & 1 pen for BI, your pen for QA suddenly goes faulty on a Sunday?

Ps re the above question, i'm just purely wondering what you'd do, i do luckily have 1 spare pen for QA & 1 spare for BI, my in use pen for QA went faulty on me earlier today so i'm now using my spare one, i'll have to get in touch with the surgery tomorrow to issue me with a "new" spare one.
