Topic: General Discussion / 7-day waking average

Here's a topic for people who test in the mornings to post their waking levels? I think it would be interesting to see what the average works out at after a week

I'll start with mine - I was 4.2 when I woke up this morning

(please don't let me be the only person to enter one! )

Making a concerted effort to loose gut before I get the speedos out, diet not normally this healthy Very Happy

I normally have a bad case of dawn phen, but since on a diet and having little or no carbs for dinner this seems to have gone away, don't know if this might help others struggling with high morning BG.

Normal diet might be:

Breafast: Doorstep Toast and marmalade
Lunch: Baguette with proper butter and pate or Bacon sandwhich
Dinner: BBQ, loads meat and fish (bread rolls for burgers or potatoes) with salad

Which do people prefer the sound of?

They both sound good!

No problem at all - why would it be? Smile

In the spirit of sharing information...

Breakfast - Bran flakes, blueberries on top and a protein shake on the side
Lunch - M&S New York Pastrami Sandwich (en route to a wedding)
Dinner - Smoked Salmon, then Roast Lamb, then mini cheesecake desserts (at wedding)

Not a typical dinner for me though - was a treat!

Thank you Simon & good to see you've joined in.

Love the sound of your dinner at your wedding especially the smoked salmon. Hope you had a great time at the wedding.

Same here. DD & DS always say myself & OH drink too much tea Laughing but that may have something to do with them having to make all the brews for us throughout the day.

Seen this somewhere else on the internet and thought it would be good to start a topic on here too.

It can be helpful sometimes to know what sort of things people are eating, as it might give others some ideas for a more varied diet. So, here's mine for yesterday:

Breakfast - cheese on toast (2 x rnds)

Lunch - tuna & mayo sandwich (2 x rnds)
cup soup

Evening meal - Poole's meat & potato pie

Embarassed not the healthiest things i know!

Topic: General Discussion / Eating Out - help needed please to stop my panic

What's your routine?

My routine when i'm eating out with family and or friends:

- choose what i want from the menu & memorise what are going to be the carby things in the meal ie potatoes, rice......

- sit and chat / drink

- meal arrives & i eyeball the amount/s of carbs

- at this point i start to get into a panic because i'm having to 1. test (which is done at the table if ideal and if not then i go off to the ladies), 2. fiddle through (almost ripping the pages in my panic) my pocket size carbs and cals book to try & find the carb things i'm having then 3. inject

- i start panicing bacause everyone else has started maybe eating then i usually have someone at the table reminding me my food is going cold.

I've eaten out many times but i always end up with this panic. Any help in trying to stop this panic would be greatly appreciated.

I have a meal out coming up this Saturday for my DS 21st.

Topic: General Discussion / Testing then Injecting - how long?

novorapidboi26 said:
I now realize that you are asking how long between finger prick and injection, for me it would be immediately after...........

do you find yourself waiting a while? and if so, why?

No i never find myself waiting a while I was just purely wanting to know what's the longest you can go after doing a test then if a meal was delayed how long before you would have to do another test? Hope that makes sense.

Topic: General Discussion / Testing then Injecting - how long?

Hi Phil,

Many thanks for your reply but what i was asking really is how long after you've tested would you leave it to inject ie the amount of time between testing then injecting. Not how long before a meal would you inject Sad

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Indian meal

Thank you very much novorapidboi26 for your very helful reply. This will all be extremely useful.

I have eventually found pakoras in the carbs and cals book, page 286 of the pocket version.

The cake is a Cadbury Flake cake - 12 portions size and which says on the packaging 39.6g Per Slice.

I will as you say follow all my usual rules and will also test regularly over the course of digestion to see what my BG is doing.

Thank you i will enjoy my meal, i'm quite looking forward to it. Smile

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Indian meal

Hi all,

I'm going for an indian at the weekend & being as i'm a creature of habit will probably be having:

Starter
Pakoras

Main
Chicken or prawn dopiaza
Pilau rice

Pudding
Birthday cake (1 small slice of my DD's 22nd cake)

1. does anyone have any idea of the carbs in any of the above? I do have the carbs and cals book but can't find some of the above food in it.
2. would you inject all in one go or some at the start of eating then the rest after 1 hour of eating?

Thanks in advace for any help.
