The fact that you were 7.6 when you went to bed, and when you woke up, suggests your basal is ok. As you say, maybe keep an eye on your readings 4hours after dinner. Maybe also a carb free test at 3am? |

Topic: General Discussion / Ratios If you took the wrong ratio by mistake and realised an hour or two after would you correct straightaway or wait until the next meal? |

Was 4.2 at dinner last night (7pm) and had 8cps so took aq 8-2. At 9pm i was BG 8.9 and then at bedtime four hours after my dinner (11pm) my BG was 7.6. I took a 3am BG and i was 9.0 then at 0640am i was 7.6. Fairly confused over the previous few nights but maybe it's my ratio at dinner that needs to be kept an eye on. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Blood Glucose in the morning
Yes thought so thanks. Last night i waited four hours and my BG was 12.2 so i took a qa +2 and my BI of 16 and was still 12.1 this morning at 6am. Took my BI last night at midnight as my dinner was at 8pm. Strange because all last week my BG at 6am were more or less perfect and i was having my dinner each night between 7.30 - 8pm and BI between 10pm-11pm. I think it might well be a case of adjusting my dinner tiem ratio. Currently on 1:1 |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Blood Glucose in the morning Yes, Rafa, exactly........In order for you to evaluate your dinner time dose you would need to test after all carbs and insulin have expired. If its OK, then you can assume the rise is happening overnight or because of the dawn phenomenon. But as you recently looked at your BI, your evening meal ratio may need tweaked. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Blood Glucose in the morning Hi,Due to work and the commute home i would basically be having my dinner anytime between 7.30pm-8pm during the week. I would then normally go to bed between 10pm-11pm and have noticed the last two nights my BG has been good by my standards 7.7 and 6.0 yet when i woke up my bloods were 13.8 and then this morning 12.3. I am wondering should i have tested around 12-1am seen as my qa would have only two hours in from my dinner when i went to bed. Thanks. |

Topic: General Discussion / Insulin Cooling Wallet? Re the meter: i live in Qld (summer temps often over 30 degrees) and only twice has my meter given me the error message related to temperature. This was rectified by moving my bag from out of the sun into a shady place and waiting and then it worked OK. I'd try being mindful of the possibility and deal with that if it happens. I would also take two meters.Helen |

Topic: General Discussion / Insulin Cooling Wallet? I'm off to California and Death Valley soon too, and I was wondering, after seeing that temperatures might not drop below 30 C during the night, whether you had any problems keeping your blood test monitor and test strips cool enough too? My strips say they should be kept below 30 C. I've used the Frio packs for insulin before but wasn't sure about keeping the strips and machine in them.

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Blood Glucose in the morning That's really good numbers.....for me they would be anyway, all pretty close to each other too.........a wee tweak to timing or dose may even bring you down lower........ well done........ |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / High Bloods I noticed today at lunch i was 4.7 and had 9 cps but because i am going for a run after work i just took 7 untis of aq. This was at 1.25pm and then just there at 3.35pm i was 18.4. Now normally mid afternoon i would be between 11-13 but when i would have my dinner at 7-7.30pm i would be within range. I ate 2 cps there and took 2 qa for it and a +2 because i was afraid the lunch time qa did not go into me. Didn't want to be getting ready for the runa nd find i was 18. Any opinions please? |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / ACCURATE BG READINGS The 'warwick' part was my understanding of the Diabetes Experiment book i.e generally your body will only breakdown protein to glucose if it has no other option i.e no carbs to convert. I believe that protein conversion is also slower than standard carb conversion i.e like a low GI food. I think it is excluded from DAFNE because it is too complex an area for most people to try to get their heads round especially as a lot of people may have just been introduced to catb counting and a lot of other new ideas. |
