Got this from the gov.uk website for DLA benefit:

Your disability or health condition must mean one or both of the following are true:

you need help looking after yourself

you have walking difficulties

You must have had these difficulties for at least 3 months and expect them to last for at least 6 months. If you’re terminally ill (ie not expected to live more than 6 months), you don’t need to have had these difficulties for 3 months.

So I would say that yes you can claim benefit, at least after the 3 months mark.......

One things for sure, you will no doubt need to try anyway, so you will find out one way or another.....

Good luck and welcome to the forum.....

Very Happy

Laura, sorry to hear you've had to stop working. I agree with novorapidboi, you should definitely try to get benefits, if you think you might be entitled to them. You don't get if you don't ask Smile

I would advise making an appointment with Citizens Advice - they can advise on what you are/may be entitiled to, and then they also help you fill out the claim forms correctly so you get what you deserve.

They were brilliant with my DLA claim a couple of years back (not diabetes related though so I can't offer specific advice on that)

Best of luck

ps. You may have only just been diagnosed but I imagine you've been suffering from it for longer so you may not have to wait the 3 months Smile
