Topic: General Discussion / Insulin not working Can you check your injection sites. It may be that your skin is a bit lumpy in places and this is hindering your insulin absorbtion.Keep track of your injection sites using your online diary, keeping accurate notes about position in the comments and it could help you discover a causal link. I find that I have to carefully rotate my injection sites in order to avoid the same symptoms you describe. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Diary Graphs You can change the date range to just one or only a few days if you wish by using the date fields on your diary. It is at the top of your diary. Remember to press the update button to carry out the reselection. The graph, when you call it up, will then only show those results. Quit out when finished and it will have returned to the normal date spread when you come back to it. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Pat on the back for Lilly Returned two Humapen Memoir pens to Lilly for investigation of failures and received their written report on both.Old pen battery was failing - which I knew about. New pen, which I had requested from Lilly as a replacement for the unreliable old pen, had been sent out from the factory without completing it's memory reader test. This led to the screen being blank when I first tried to use it as it had been left in the wrong mode for normal use. So a big pat on the back for Lilly who admitted a manufacturing error. Their service provision has always been first class. I can't praise them highly enough. What a great team ![]() Regards Garry |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Poppadoms - really? Some chefs put a shine on their curry sauces by adding sugar. It is well worth asking to speak to the chef in your favourite curry house and outline your needs to him. From my experience, visiting a new place can have some astounding post-meal BG results and I have seen 20.6 in the past ![]() Regards Garry |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / corrections after a hypo Think it more likely that you have an infection coming on. Blood sugars are normally at least one day ahead of your cold, or whatever it is, showing obvious symptoms.See what happens over today and tommorrow and it may be that you need compensate, if it is infection related insulin resistance, by applying the sick day rules from your handbook. Life is always sending us curve balls....don't worry you'll sort it soon enough. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Hypos and testing I always used to over-correct following hypo. But if you can develop the discipline to strictly control you correctional glucose intake, your BGs will come out high....for reasons explained before...but not really high. Try some carb free testing to satisfy yourself that the BI dosage is right. Once that is clear you should have things under better control. Please remember that depending on which BI you use....BI dose alteration can take time to show results. For me Lantus BI changes take three days to have an effect. Stick with it! Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Insulin Pens with insulin cartridges With both pens you are able to sight the plunger moving the glass phial through the viewing port. So you are able to see that you are getting a dose. Humalog insulin phials have a rough scale on the side of them. Line the scale up with the window so you can check. If you have doubts about the pen delivering the correct dose just tot up all doses delivered over the life of one phial...and it should add up to 300 u....near enough. Topic: General Discussion / Flu Jabs Been for my flu jab this week and have had the usual tender arm and wacky blood sugars as a consequence of infection and insulin resistance.Hoping things level out in the next week or so. I guess we will all react in the same way to this years strain, but it might be good to compare notes and we will know what to expect. Have you booked yours yet? Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / morning highs If you have the confidence, lift your BI another 2 u and follow progress over the next few days and along with the dreaded 03:00 BG checks see what happens. No improvement and good 03:00s - add another 2 u. Wait a few days and see how you go. Once you get it right you may find that BG is within 1 mmol of your before bed result. Things will change over 28 days though. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / morning highs Many of us find that BI changes can take some days to kick in with an effect. It may be the same for you, particularly if on Lantus BI. For me, BI changes take 3 days to show signs of any possible improvement. I think ![]() We always have lots of unmeasured stuff going on in our blood which is difficult to manage the outcome of. Take a few days to make any further changes - so you are sure of cause and effect. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Result. Cheer up vic. Just look back and review the good advice that you have given others through this forum.Take heart from that. ![]() We are all in the same boat. Like you, I work hard at achieving a balance and felt like I was doing really well, with a graph largely in the green - but whilst on holiday....the wheels have come off......and 5 days on, I'm still trying to get things back in control. Goodness knows what has gone wrong but I'll keep day-by-day trying to get back on an even keel. Regards Garry |

Topic: General Discussion / Is Hba1c related to the averages in blood glucose diaries Welcome michdash![]() As JWO mentions stability counts. Make slow controlled changes and you can understand where improvement comes from. Stick with it and in 4 or 5 months you'll be at 58 mmol/mol and looking for further gains. Regards Garry |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / QA and BI preferred injection sites Following a General thread: http://www.dafneonline.co.uk/forums/1/topics/1779I follow the same rules as marke. I was advised QA - stomach and arms - for quick uptake. BI in legs - for slower absorbtion. That is what I have followed after being given this info during my DAFNE course in November 2009. I wonder whether Carolin would express an opinion and be good enough to comment? Regards Garry |
