Topic: General Discussion / Best worldwide travel insurance for type 1 diabetics Has anyone out there had to make a diabetes-related claim on their travel insurance? For example, replacing lost or stolen medication or equipment. For me it's the company's response to a claim that would make it recommendable. |

Topic: General Discussion / Best worldwide travel insurance for type 1 diabetics HiI am a type 1 diabetic who has done DAFNE, has no complications and am about to renew my annual worldwide travel insurance. I currently have insurance through INSUREANDGO and to be honest have no problems with them but just wanted to know if anyone else has any other companies they would recommend Thanks |

Glucose Juice from Boots or Amazon are my choice as they are in small, easy to carry bottles, and are very effective in dealing with hypo's. I think they are basically water with glucose and fruit flavouring. Each bottle is valued at 1.5 portions carbohydrate. |

Topic: General Discussion / Can DAFNE consider changing from the use of CP’s to g of carbohydrate? I Ilike to work using the KISS principle...Keep It Simple (because I'm) Stupid.Present system is easy to understand and although over the dafneonline years there have been contributors who have occasionally needed help with understanding ratios, I think that their numbers have been relatively small and this change would likely make their dose calculations more difficult. Prefer to stay as is. Thanks Regards Garry |

I am being investigated for food intolerance which may be compounding my glucose control This approach involves a very restricted diet for a few weeks. Sugar is one of the things not allowed, I was wondering if anyone had advice on treating a hypo naturally??? My usual choice is orange juice or jellies unfortunately citrus fruits are also not recommended. Thanks |

Topic: General Discussion / Online Are you using Android or iPhone? If Android, I know that you will first need to set it up in the Settings that the app uses your log in details for DAFNE Online (Go into Settings and see Username and Password at the top). Then, go into the diary Entries bit and you may see a menu option at the bottom of the view? From there, you can pick from a few things, including Download Entries and Upload Entries. If you are signed in on the app correctly, select Upload Entries to upload them to the website. If you want to view entries from the DAFNE Online site on your phone app, select Download instead to add them to your app Entries. You can also set the app to automatically upload your entries on the go if you like under the Settings section. Keeping my diary entries online is very helpful for when my phone has let me down. Hope this helps. It is possibly the same for iPhone but I don't know for sure. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Accidently given double dose of tresiba You will probably find your QA insulin will respond stronger than usual when you take your usual meal ratios or correctional doses. You may also find that you slowly drop as the day goes by, so monitoring your BGs every hour or two should be about right for preventing a hypo; maybe more often depending on how aggressive the drop is. See how you go?I've done stuff like this before but it was with Levemir. Easily done and thank gawd the dose runs out eventually. Take care, and stay safe. |

Topic: General Discussion / Online I expect this has been asked before but I can't find it. I am new to smartphone but not to dafne. I downloaded the 'Dafne online' app which is storing my results on the phone. Have now logged on to this site; how do I get the results on my phone online? |

Topic: General Discussion / RESIDUAL INSULIN GENAREATION? Thanks for that, I've been diagnosed just over 13 months (aged 47!) as a T1, guess I still have residual function, thats is probably preserved by insulin jabs. I have a (very modest) dawn phenomena impact, but as you say most T1s have higher ratios in the morning - guess I'm just obtuse!T1 Diabetes is endlessly fascinating and challenging at the same time. DAFNE was a great help, however good BS control is both an art and a science I find! |

Topic: General Discussion / RESIDUAL INSULIN GENAREATION? alanGYou may have significant natural insulin production remaining at this time. Have you been diagnosed as Type 1 long? Yelekreb We are all different. Our physiologies are all very different. Personally, I need to use ratios of 2:1 at breakfast, 2.5:1 at lunch and back to 2:1 at dinner. If I ever eat more than 10 CPs at dinner I need 2.2:1. In the morning, many type 1s need higher ratios than during the day as their insulin uptake is hindered by Adrenaline and other hormones released naturally into the bloodstream used to wake us up, thus you could think of it as Adrenaline causes insulin resistance. It's hard to understand. You'll get a handle on it with experience. I've got over 36 years...and still haven't cracked it! Regards Garry |

I've had something similar, except it seems I've become much more insulin sensitive, so have had to reduce my ratios - kinda weird as I end up using 1U to 6 CP at breakfast and then about 4u to 6cp by the evening. What causes the changes during the day? I asked at my last appointment and was told - it's hard to understand. Any ideas? |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Maths Test Alan,It's frustrating isn't it? The typical answer is lack of space on the packaging and the rules state that per 100g values must be displayed to allow comparison with other products. However, that ignores the fact that if the contents are different sizes (e.g. 4 pies in one packet against 6 in another) then a comparison per 100g is meaningless. If anyone has suggestions on how to get this approach changed I'd be glad to hear them. |

Topic: General Discussion / Stress Hi Felix,As I understand it from my DAFNE clinics. The dawn phenomena is when diabetics experience a strong insulin resistance, but only at certain times of the day. From my last DAFNE clinic as I understand it, it is due to hormones etc and is usually experienced early morning. I would imagine it will not necessarily be experienced by all diabetics and again those that do experience it may do so at different times. One way to check would be to test your BG early morning say around 5pm or even earlier, but I would imagine you would have to test for 5 consecutive days to rule out any anomalies. However if your BG are ok then no need to check, but it is one of the things that could be responsible for a high BG in the morning. |
