Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Daphne online will not load on my iphone I think for the iPhone 3G, the version you have is the latest and final OS release...........so it probably wont be the OS, unless the app has been developed for the 3GS onwards..........which would include the 3GS, 4, Touch and both iPads.......Simon might be able to shed some light....... ![]() |

So its looking like my theory may have some substance.............Its not actually my theory, a pumper suggested that because she was only on the quick insulin that this was why she counted........... |

Topic: General Discussion / weightwatchers Does the level of your BGs not effect your decision to exercise, it does with me.........I would prefer not to eat anything extra just so I can exercise, and so the window of opportunity to work out is slim, mainly after my dinner in the evening................... How do the rest of you do things...... ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / weightwatchers I'd be interested to know how you got on at weightwatchers Jess, and if it would benefit a type 1. Carb counting at first is daunting but once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature!Good luck ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / weightwatchers I joined weightwatchers last night with the aim to loose weight and make myself count my carbs (I haven't been focusing on this recently and I feel sluggish because my sugar levels are not great)! I figured if I can count points to loose weight I can count carbs for my diabetes!!Good luck!! |

Topic: General Discussion / Metabolic Rate Calculator Hi allIf you go to this site http://www.truthaboutabs.com/freebonus you can download amongst other things a metabolic rate calculator. This calculator will approximate how many calories your body needs daily to maintain the same weight. In addition, calculations are provided that approximate how many calories per day you would need to consume to either lose weight or gain weight depending on your goals. It is a MS Excel file. Hope it helps someone. Derek |

Topic: General Discussion / weightwatchers I only started back at the gym last Monday and made it every night (5 days) plan to do the same to get back into routine. Got my Hba1c last Thurs - 9.5% 3 months ago I was 8.4%!!! Had 3 lazy months of no excercise, eating crap. I feel disappointed in myself but I no that I'll get that figure down it's just going to be hard work. The gym instructor said I could loose 1lb per week if i stuck to a 2000 calorie diet and 5 days excercise![]() I'm also getting myself in shape for pregnancy so I need to loose those lbs and get that figure down, aiming for December......a big challenge!! I think i need to get my head around calories and carbs and stick to the excercise......but all suggestions welcome ![]() |

I am on a total daily BI dose of 70, so no shortage of slow acting insulin to mop up the slowly released carbs of sweetcorn, that's my theory anyway..............that theory being, that the less BI you take the more chance things like sweetcorn/baked beans will have a noticeable effect on BGs....... |

Topic: General Discussion / weightwatchers I need help to lose weight too, but my problem I believe is activity levels as opposed to calories.........But if your active then calorie counting may help you along........... As far as I believe, carbohydrate, protein and fat all contain the calories that go in our bodies. So, 1 gram of carbs has 4 calories, 1 gram of protein also has 4 calories, and 1 gram of fat has 9 calories, so although the packaging will give you the total that gives an idea of the amounts. I couldn't comment on weight watchers, but definitely counting your intake and then reducing it to the level or below for someone your age, sex and height is worth a go..... How much activity are you doing? |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Watch out - Corn on the cob! Just resurfacing this one....I haven't had corn on the cob for years, but decided to reawaken the 70/80's, when I spotted a basket full in my local F&V shop. I was unsure to count the CPs or not, but whilst it was bubbling away in the pan, I did a bit of surfing. I hadn't weighed the cob, so just judged it to be average-size, and decided on 2 CPs. I took my corresponding amount of insulin for the full meal, and must have judged it about right. Nothing else in the evening, and pre-bed I was 7.6BG. And it was DELICIOUS! |

Topic: General Discussion / Reducing levels Cannot say if only changing the BI is enough and you may need to change the ratio for several of the meals.I use 1.5:1 in the morning but use 2:1 for lunch, dinner and snacks though I change the ratio depending on the food. Snacks like Chocolate or a McDonalds lunch don't seem to need such a high ratio as they seem to burn up quickly. If you try changing the ration only change one at a time, and consider changing the adjustment ratio as I found that 3mmol to one unit wasn't working, but only change by 0.5mmol at a time. Bear with it and i'm sure the levels will come down. |

Topic: General Discussion / Reducing levels Welcome![]() Try to give your change up to 17 of BI a few days before potentially changing again. Most people seem to react slowly to Background Insulin changes. As you have split your BI dose you may want to review time splits too. Looking at BI timings they vary between 8 and 15 or so hours. You may want to consider the impact that this has. For me personally...I take BI with breakfast and dinner and find that it normally makes a 12:12 hours split. If I get up late one morning... I tend to find all meal times slide too and it stays at 12:12 hours. Sure when returning back to normal meal timings there is an error...but its usually small. Stick at it. Your results are very encouraging. Regards Garry |
