Topic: General Discussion / Sugars all over the place ! Hi,18 units of BI (Levemir) twice a day (6:30am and 6:30pm) I recently completed DAFNE last week and was wondering how long it took for other diabetic's BG to level out after the course ? I first started on a 1:1 ratio but found my BG were high after breakfast/lunch but I've slowly increased to a 2:1 Ratio, however I'm still finding that my BG's is high 2-3 hours after lunch even though I've took the correct QA (2:1 Ratio) to carbs plus a correction of between 1-3 depending on my level ? For example before my lunch today I was 9.7 I had 5 CPS, therefore I took 10 + 1 of QA but found my BG at 4:00pm was 15 ? Is anyone on a greater ratio than 2:1 of QA to CPS ? Or Do you think I need to increase my BI to give me better control throughout the day ? Any help or guidance would be appreciate. Thanks Alex |

Topic: General Discussion / CBD and Nepal Cbd is truly the next best thing in derma and medical innovations. Why is it very popular? This is primarily because of its health benefits and effectiveness it can offer. I've watched a lot of video about how CBD works its magic in a snap. Cannabis strains can give you a different effect like |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / extremely high blood first thing in the morning Hi tommo. I agree with all above and worth a try. Another way to see what’s going on is to have an early dinner or at least the carb section of the meal and have the protein and veg etc later on. Many decisions made in diabetes is for “average” diabetics and as we know there is no such thing. Most people may have dinner when they get home from work around 6pm-7pm. For diabetics we then have to stay up for hours waiting to see how the fast and long term insulin are operating. I myself have the carbs around 4.30pm and levemir at 7-8pm. It gives me plenty of time to ascertain what’s happening as the short acting component has completed its life and hence another variable is taken out of the equation. Keep to a constant regime in order that any changes or variations can be understood as outside the control component. In diabetes it’s hard to suit others so always just suit yourself. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / extremely high blood first thing in the morning Thanks to sjohno and novarapidboi26. I will certainly try testing at 3.00am to try to see if that tells me anything. I am seeing my HCP on 29th Jan. Any information I can show her will, no doubt, help.sjohno., I was on 4 units of Levemir at night, My HCP changed this to breakfast time, but I was then getting very high BG readings in the morning - average 15 with quite low readings by the time I was to have my evening meal - so I decided to administer my Levemir 2 units at night and 2 units after breakfast. So far this system seems to have helped. I am afraid now what my HCP will say as she thought it would not be a good idea to split the dose. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / extremely high blood first thing in the morning I would agree with everything said so far......Does sound like it could be a contribution from the liver, which is perfectly normal...... Testing at 3am should confirm it and of course you could set alarms to test throughout the night, in the absence of a flash sensor.... Levemir can last all day for some, but mainly it is chosen to accommodate a twice daily BI injection....so depending on what dose you are on....you could consider splitting it......so that you have a dose right before bed [therefore helping stave off highs on waking due to the liver] and one in the morning for the day time, both of which can be tested and adjusted independently of each other.... |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / extremely high blood first thing in the morning Hi TommoHave you tested your bloods around the 3amish in the early mornings? It's a pain but you can see if you are dipping into a hypo as suggested by your HCP. You could also be subject to the Dawn Phenomenon please find below a link that you can read up on. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/blood-glucose/dawn-phenomenon.html With your Levemir are you on one dose or a split dose? I too am on one dose of Levemir 13 units daily at 5pm and with me it does last 24 hours BUT I understand from reading other T1 diabetics it doesn't last the full 24hrs so they are on a split dose i.e. morning/night. Good luck with sorting it all out Sarah |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / extremely high blood first thing in the morning Just recently I have been experiencing blood sugars of 11.0 to 18.3. My HCP has changed the timing of my Levemer from last thing at night to after breakfast as she believes I am hypoing in the middle of the night without knowing it.Has anybody else experienced this? What is the remedy as at present I am tweeking my Novarapid at meal times to try to reduce the high blood sugars during the day. I would welcome anyone's thoughts! |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Mobile apps, Sensors and medication Hello everyone!I am a type 1 diabetic for the past 32 years. After working in different industries I have decided to focus on research and I am currently doing my PhD in University of Portsmouth. I am currently recruiting participants for my study. The participation involves an one-off 30 minute telephone interview and a 5 minute online survey. I am trying to find out how we can design hypertension or arrhythmia based mobile apps, websites and sensors like Freestyle Libre better, in order to take our medication better so as we can improve our health. I am aware that I might be asking much but if you are interested in sharing your experiences with me and help me with my research I will be honoured. The study’s website is: http://www.prayance.co.uk/ephrma/ and if you decide to participate, you need to fill in the form at: http://www.prayance.co.uk/ephrma/take-part/ My deepest appreciations. |

Topic: General Discussion / CBD and Nepal I have found some interesting information on CBD oil and tablets. Any personal claims regarding CBD products are correct as are any claims from non medicinal products. In fact, I will claim that Kellogg’s Corn flakes derives from a reputable company, makes me feel less anxious in the morning especially with two cups of coffee and assists me in balancing my glucose levels. Just check the corn flakes packet for further information and contact numbers. In reality, if you are going on a huge trip to Nepal, Tibet or wherever, please discuss time differences, dosages, gastro problems, anxiety over diabetic complications and levels with your GP and endocrinologist. Further, at 65 years of age and travelling in areas that have very different medical and hospitals setups from Britain, I would be super cautious and had planned and discussed with my health professionals. I don’t think they’ve heard of DAFNE in Nepal. Here are some more details on CBD taken from various websites. 1. CBD oil extracted from hemp is often marketed as a food supplement to promote well-being – similar to other herbals like Echinacea – and boost the immune system. Although Hemp CBD oil is legal, it is not a medicine and should not be confused with the recent confiscation of 12-year-old Billy Caldwell’s CBD oil at Heathrow airport. 2. It is a strict violation of the Food and Drug Administration DSHEA guidelines to make medical claims about the efficacy of CBD products in the treatment of any medical condition or symptom. Although preliminary research has shown tremendous promise of CBD oil helping people in pretty remarkable ways, legitimate CBD companies will refrain from making any direct medical claims. Be very wary of companies that defy this guideline, because if they disregard this particular rule, what other rules are they willing to ignore? 3. Cannabidiol (CBD) oil has become increasingly popular as a natural way to help people try to manage pain, reduce inflammation, and cope with anxiety.* Though the number of prescriptions has risen sharply in the United States over the past 20 years, many Americans are trying to limit the number of prescribed drugs they take – instead, searching for all-natural solutions to the aches, pains, and discomfort they begin to face as they age. |

Topic: General Discussion / Managing diabetes on a holiday to Nepal Hi Ruperto, I was a bit stunned being redirected to a commercial site on hemp oil. I’m a “real person” and although not a contributor to this CBD site I’ll put forward a few comments here so we are all safe over Christmas and the festive season or on a trip overseas. Firstly, Ruperto write down in this forum the comments derived from the web site pertaining to how CBD oil “can significantly alleviate the suffering” of diabetics and “control the disease.” Secondly, diabetics have to be extremely circumspect on any alternative therapies due to past deaths of diabetics changing their regimes or even stopping insulin dosages from the false claims of some therapists, spiritualists, religious ministers, dieticians and the list goes on and on and not following conventional medical conventions and their endocrinologists.Ruperto, personally I would weigh up the expense of buying “Natural wellness CBD oil” against purchasing the latest in technological advances for diabetics, such as the Medtronic CGM. I’m sure this may be also extremely beneficial for many diabetics and DGK on an overseas trip. Be safe, have a merry Christmas and a healthy new year |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Vegetarian food potentially yes......for example a quick search on myfitnesspal for quorn hot dogs gives a result of 26g CHO for 1 hotdog..... so the more processed items could have carbs in the region of above, but most of the items may only have small amounts... so best to check packaging and adopt the rules unique to you when considering carbs less than 10g etc.... |
