Topic: General Discussion / Dafne Diary I have some Word documents that allow me to print my own diaries. You'll need some A5 photographic paper (for the covers) and plain A5 paper (for the diary pages). You'll also need a printer that can print on A5 stationery (most inkjet printers do, I understand, but I'm not certain) and a stapler. I can email these documents to you if you're interested. |

Topic: General Discussion / whats the blood test called that identifies Type1 diabetes? Hi,Can you tell me what the blood test is called that identifies a person has type 1 diabetes not type 2. I recall being seen by a diabetic nurse back in 2015 when I was diagnosed and she explained there was a specific test - I'm sure it wasn't the HbAc1 test we all have 6 monthly / annually. I'm trying to advise and guide a friend who is deeply concerned for her brother's health as he's been told he's type 2 but his symptoms and appearance indicates the diagnosis may be incorrect. many thanks in advance Sarah |

Topic: General Discussion / Metronome course Morning all I have just completed the DAFNE course at the metrodome in Barnsley, after being type 1 for 10 and a half years never testing or being informed or patterns or corrections, I feel a lot more confident in how I handle it now and what I’m doing and what I should look for. I am on novo rapid and levemir and they seem to work for me, at least for now the guys on my course were very helpful and a good laugh I think we were all very greatful for all the infomation Jenny and Maxine gave us. Well that’s it for now. Thanks again hopefully I can get my levels nore in target and now I understand what to do when I’m ill even with just a cold. |

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin
Hi Alan It's ok lol it's just that I read somewhere that hospitals still use Actrapid on diabetic patients when they're admitted, having the glucose bag fitted and Actrapid to counteract it. So I was intrigued as to what was going on ![]() Hope the Novorapid is ok with you, I too am on that as well as Levemir. ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin Hello SarahYou're right, it's not Actrapid - it's NovoRapid I've got in the fridge. What an idiot! When I was discussing this with my DSN, she talked about changing to Actrapid, and when I picked up the prescrption, I put it straight into the fridge. Apologies all round ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin Hi AlanI was diagnosed T1 in 1979 and was put on Actrapid & Monotard together. In 2006 whilst waiting for a prescription renewal I was informed by my local GP Practice that Actrapid was no longer being made and I was prescribed Humulin M3 - ( 3 year nightmare followed using this) BUT I am intrigued how you are being converted to Actrapid when I was led to believe that Actrapid was no longer available ![]() thanks Sarah |

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin The reason for the change was that when I was on Humalolog, I used a Lilly Memoir pen, which had a display and a memory which allowed me to see details of previous injections. This was great, but the battery ran out and Lilly no longer manufacture Memoir pens. The only other pen with displays is the Novo Nordisk Echo pen, which my DSN got for me. This uses Actrapid insulin - hence the change. |

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin I will soon be converting to Actrapid. My DSN has told me that their characteristics are very similar and that I should have no problems. I would welcome any input from people who have done this, or who know haw similar they are. |

Topic: General Discussion / Meter strip top-up query Thanks for the info.I've managed to solve the problem by : a) improving my lancing technique, much fewer failures. b) I also got a cable (on eBay, couldn't find on Abbott web-site as maybe not available any more) which allows the Xceed to transfer to Diasend. It uses the meter strip slot to extract the data, looks like Neo uses a micro-USB connector. So hopefully at my next clinic I can transfer data from ny Xceed directly, just need to take cable. J |

Topic: General Discussion / DAFNE plus The initial trial courses have been run. The next step is to run a series of the new courses at some centres and compare the results to the existing course run in a set of different centres. the results will then be compared to see if there is an improvement in outcomes, and that will be over a couple of years. Bottom line is that unless you happen to be scheduled for a course in one of the trial sites, it will still be several years before roll-out occurs to the rest of the country, and that assumes that outcomes are improved. |

Topic: General Discussion / Dexcom G6 The other possibility is to use one of the 3rd party companies who are providing add-ons which provide alerts from the Libre e.g. https://miaomiao.cool/. I can't personally vouch for the product although I have met people using it who have been very positive. Failing that Libre v2 is rumored to have alerts when that comes, perhaps next year?? |

Topic: General Discussion / DAFNE Course Material
@Fred67, Glasgow is one of the biggest DAFNE centres in the UK so you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting on a course assuming you have 5 days available. Talk to your consultant or DSN. As Mark stated, structured education is included in the NICE requirements for the treatment of T1 and so should be available to anyone who wants it. You have the advantage of being located in one of the 170 areas of the UK where the DAFNE course is offered. |

Topic: General Discussion / DAFNE Course Material I was introduced to carb counting when the novo pens first appeared on the market..20 plus years ago...I am waiting to do a dafne course, been 8 months now,I have a good understanding of carb counting, although it was described as “only a way I can understand” ..which is fine, being that it is i that manages my diabetes on a daily basis, insulin adjustments etc etc... I find your database of carbs great, saves a lot of reading of different packets...I have also done Bertie online course... Is there anywhere I can do a Dafne online course? As I feel I will never get an appointment here in Glasgow.. |
