Topic: General Discussion / I want an insulin pump I've got my pumpIm actually very happy with it , was very anxious at first but had a couple of line and cartridge changes and feeliing more a lot confident , its actually really nice not having to take injections and the freedom it gives you when youre out makes a big difference , i can check blood then just bluetooth the dose to the pump and its down , no hiding in corners taking injections in the loo etc Also not had one hypo so far .......... |

I guesstimated 3CP for 5 but seemed insufficient. Ideally it'd be good to know per actual pancake. There are serving guidelines on the web (thanks for the link Karl) but not much indication as to what constitutes a serving. |

how much insulin did you take........without being reasonably confident on the carb content it would be natural to expect dodgy readings.......there may also have been a delay of glucose release if infact the fat content was higher than normal... |

Topic: General Discussion / Introduction hey wendy, welcome to the forum.....karl is right in terms of the ratio changes..... you should have the same ratios every day.... finding out those ratios is the time consuming part........ just think back to what they said in your dafne course............if your not on target by the next meal and all other variables are ruled out (miscalcualtion of carbs, illness, background insulin running out etc), then you can up your ratio, or down it.....once your hitting the target your ratio is right..... good luck...... |

Topic: General Discussion / Introduction Hi Wendy - You should not have to change your ratio just because you had more CP's and you should not be changing your ratio as much as your diary is showing, you need patterns - being from Hull also - remember POPIDOL - I think it was. Also 4.2 is not hypo (officially less than 3.5 - but it may feel like one after you BG's have been high for a long time). Good to see somebody else form Hull and East Riding Karl |

Topic: General Discussion / Introduction Just completed the Daphne course which i found very informative, I have completed my diary from Monday and I have had a slight decrease in my glucose levels. Tonight I have had a hypo but I think this was due to over counting at Lunch, I did a 2:1 ratio and im thinking because my cp's were quite high, should I have taken a 1.5:1 ratio. Any ideas? |

I had problems with one touch ultra strips in a similiar manner. However a new chemist opened nearer to me, I switched to them and have not had a problem since. I would consider a different chain of chemists just to see if you get the same problems. I find it hard to believe a chain the size of Lloyd's cannot get a continuous supply of strips from one of the biggest manufacturers of them ! |

Topic: General Discussion / Split background insulin Even when you've changed insulin type and were already on a split dose before, it can be difficult to work out.Just this week I've changed from Lantus to Levemir in the hope that things will become more stable but it has been difficult. I've found that I needed a lot more than what I was taking for Lantus so I did start down the path of getting lots of ketones, but applying sick day rules thankfully got me out of it. Not something I needed considering I was still working out my new dose amounts but such is the nature of trial and error. Keep your chin up - you can work it out and definitely contact your specialist before it gets too much. Good luck Caroline! |

Topic: General Discussion / Shortage of test strips I had this problem usually when going to my local Lloyds. So in response to this, I started going to the 24 hour Boots pharmacy instead but I found that they were short of pen needles instead! You can't win! XD |

Topic: General Discussion / Giving Blood I was told the same thing here in Australia. They would not accept my donation in case I had a hypo. A bit strange considering the Red Cross seems desperate for blood, but it's their right to refuse |

Topic: Site Development / DAFNE Online iPhone application - help with content/design needed Oh yes... I'd forgot last night after my rambling. I think the auto option would be better as well!At first glance anyway as it seems the simpler option of the two. Thanks again Simon. |

Topic: Site Development / DAFNE Online iPhone application - help with content/design needed Same niggle as Dr Jez.  Apple's market research folk clearly didn't think I'd buy an ipod as I do it on most apps. Heheh.ÂTo be honest I've only updated a couple of days ago so may well be teething problems on my part. Other than that the updates are ace. It's nice to see a couple of my own suggestions implemented. It's surprising how it's encouraged me to do a bit more testing and actually logging the results instead of just acting on a result and forgetting about it! I've had another idea as well. I wonder if it would be possible to include a dosage calculator in the settings? I've just recently been varying my ratios and keep getting mixed up and even forgetting which ratios I'm on and at what points in the day. As is, the settings allow target BGs to be input for meal and bed times and it'd help me (and possibly others as forgetful as me) if I could also add ratios to each meal time. So then when I put in how many lines I'm going to have the app then says to take n units. Clearly any alterations or corrections would be done manually. Once again my explanations are a bit muddled so I hope you can manage to decipher my late night ramblings!!! Brilliant job Simon. Thanks again. |

Any ideas? The pancakes look pretty insubstantial, but I've ended up quite high after underestimating their CP |

On Thursday (30th September) I went to my local Lloyd's chemist to pick up my prescription and they could only give me one pot of Aviva test strips - my prescription is for three pots. I went back today to pick up the rest of my prescription and was told that they had not come in - they said that Lloyd's were having trouble with their supplier and could not forecast when they would get any more. Has anybody else had this problem? |

Topic: General Discussion / Giving Blood Hi guys just came across your discussion about giving blood I think the reason the blood transfusion service don't allow type 1 s to donate blood is that if you reduced your circulating blood volume you would suddenly become more sensitive to the insulin you already have on board, making you more likely to hypo in the time after you donate! You would also probably require to reduce your insulin doses in the days following your donation! It's strictly for our own benefit!!!!! And of course there's a legal issue in case you donate blood then hypo in the street and come to some harm then sue them!!! X |

Topic: General Discussion / Giving Blood I think its pretty unlikely to be genes, since we don't really know what causes Type 1 for sure. They are not going to stop us because of that. Its more likely that its because we have to inject needles into ourselves all the time and needles are a primary source of infections/diseases. This is a bit unfair since we are hardly the same drug addicts, but thats life I guess. |
