I don't think the refresher course is widely available at the moment it is still a 'trial' to see how well it works. Its interesting to hear about the drop-in idea I wonder if any other DAFNE centres do this. Anyone ? |

Only did mine in june so dont really need a refresher course as yet , but what my diabetic clinic do is a dafne drop in on the last monday of each month and anyone who has attended a dafne course at the hospital can pop in meet other dafne people and get advice etc .... |

Topic: General Discussion / Insulin Pumps Cheers Jenny.I think I've finally made my mind up that I WILL give it a whirl. Another example of my rubbish timing as it's just too late to ring them and I've got a whole weekend in front of me to bottle it! |

Topic: General Discussion / user to graduate HiYes I did, and I have entered the information and it states successful. However, I do not have the option of the handbook online. It would be really handy. I have emailed this website to see if they can resolve the problem. Thanks anyway. |

Topic: General Discussion / Insulin Pumps Hiya...Firstly, thanks novorapidboi26 for the referal to diabetessupport.co.uk. I had been a member there myself but it's been so long since I used the site, I can't even remember my username - nevermind the password. Heheh... Now to Davejg. I can honestly say it's great to see someone post nigh on word for word what I wanted to (I struggle explaining myself sometimes). I've been a type 1 since '79 when I was 5 and tried almost all insulin devices going. Including a pump (2nd gen I think. The 1st were like a phone box.) back in the mid 80s. Although they were a lot simpler then... Turn a dial and leave it for basal, press a button per unit at meals... The end! I've been pestering at the clinics for ages about the possibility of trying again but with no joy. Now after doing the DAFNE follow up the teachers there say it's probably the best thing I could do. Oddly I'm not sure I fancy it now as the new ones look so bloomin' complicated. But the same teachers have managed to reassure me (a bit at least) that they aren't as bad as they look. I think the reason I - and possibly yourself - get the jitters is as you say the lack of clear info on the little beggars. And the abundance of 11 year old yanks on the likes of YooHoo Tube who think they're Dr Kildare! All the best anyway. Would be good to hear how you get on!!! |

Topic: General Discussion / More forums ? Hiya...I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if a category covering treatments would be of any benefit? I'm just about to post a question regarding pumps and having searched I see all the results pop up in the "General" box. While this isn't a problem if you're searching (as they all pop up wherever they are) it would make the browsing of treatment related posts a bit simpler. Searching for "Pump pen tablet" tends to reveal more results than you'd probably expect... Actually it returns none... I just tried it! Heheh! I know it might sound a little lazy, but I feel having them all in one place would make things a lot easier. And maybe meters would fit in nicely along with the above. Cheers all! |

Topic: General Discussion / Shortage of test strips Hi alan.i seem to have the same problem with Lloyds. It's not just test strips for me though, they're just about short on anything. I've starting using Asda pharmacy. They normally have what u want, if not it's there the next day(even though One touch Vita strips are like rocking horse poo!!!) The customer service is ten times better as well. |

Topic: General Discussion / Insurance for pump Hi Jenny. I searched the internet to try to find specific pump insurance but couldn't find anyone that did it. After a few discussions with my insurer they decided to waver the admin fee but i still had to pay £50 to insure my pump. I tried to explain that its actually physically attached to me 24 hours a day and not the kind of thing a thief would be interested in taking but it still cost more than i would have imaginedThats ridiculous that your company are being so unhelpful. Threatening to leave them for another company usually makes them treat you a bit nicer You can get specific life and travel insurance for diabetics so there should be a company somewhere that can help cover just a pump |
