Not sure how relevant this is because I am so brittle and atypical... If I have fewer calories over a 24hr period my BI becomes too much and hypos follow. E

That is a strange observation..................are you on a pump?

If you had a carb free meal in an attempt to test you background/basal requirements and therefore less calories, could you get accurate results.......?

Topic: Questions for HCPs / High blood readings

Just to say that I'm taking Lantus twice a day 7 AM and 7 PM although my dose well down from the previous single night time dose of 26 units. I'm now taking 9 units mornings and 7 or 8 units evenings. I'd certainly suggest speaking to your diabetic nurse about split doses as I found it certainly helped me improve my control. Having said that I'm only up at this time because I did a 3 AM test myself. Foolishly didn't allow for high carbs in Branston Pickle with supper last night and BG went through the roof. I hope all settles down with you. Best wishes. Smile

Topic: General Discussion / Feeling hungover!!

Dear all,
Having miscalculated my QI last night following chips and a battered sausage from the local chippy, I went to bed with hi levels and woke up with hi levels - See last 2 days readings attached. 19 before bed, +2 correction (obv not enough), 14 on waking up (+3 correction) and then about 6.8 ish all day.

Today, I feel like I've had a hangover all day and felt really tired. Now, at only 6.30pm, I'm considering going to bed as I still feel the same and am even bumping into things, walking in zig zag lines etc! No, no alcohol sinse Saturday night and even then only a small amount.

I'm not ill in anyway.

Is this a normal feeling after having been so high?

Many thanks for any thoughts you may have.

you mite find why you woke up with slight high sugars because you could off possible gone low in the night not woke up and your body has kicked in and kicked out to much glucose

having similar problems but on Levemir not Lantus. I find my morning readings are high but normalise throughout the day even going hypo at teatime. I am on a lot smaller dosage to you & take my levemir twice a day at 8am & 8pm taking only 3 units at 8am & 4 at 8pm. My diabetes changes because my dosages were the other way round when I finished the course & my lunchtime readings were always high but normalising by teatime, now as I say my breakfast readings are high lunchtime normal & teatime somtimes hypo. I have added problem of having lost hypo awareness at present & am trying to get it back by trying to run my bg a bit higher than normal. My consultant says not to worry about things changing but to work with things day to day. This morning my reading was 11.5 had breakfast & included an adjustment dose of nova rapid of 1.5units & 12 units for food eaten (using ratio of 1.5units of insulin to 1 cp) lunchtime bg was 5.5 so need to watch this afternoon but only use ratio of 1:1 at lunch. Maybe worth mentioning this to your diabetic nurse & see if she can advise you. Confused javascript:emoticon('Confused')

Being high in the morning and then going low in the afternoon may suggest you need more BI overnight, and less BI during the day..............

one thing at a time though............ Wink

I was having a similar problem and ended up having very high ketones as a result, only to find out the cause was a cracked labrusca cartridge! As a precautionary I would change the cartridge if that's what you use!

I would of guessed 20g too, roughly the same as a slice of bread but not as much as a roll, and the icing probably wouldn't amount to more than the bread...........

hope you enjoyed them............

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Fitting when hypo

I have had Type 1 for 35 years. About 15 years ago I had bitten the inside of my mouth during sleep. When telling both my G.P and Diabetic Consultant this, they said it happened during a night-time hypo.
My husband insisted it was completely different symptoms I was having. On this information they eventually did a MRI scan on my brain. The result was night time epilepsy, which has bneen completely ( so far ) controlled by a daily tablet.
It has not affected driving as it is diagnosed as " night time epilepsy " Interesting, as I had not previously heard of peaople having fits when hypo.

Would anyone like to hazard an educated guess at the number of CPs in one of those bread fingers with the icing and coconut on them? I've just eaten 2 and I think I might have miscalculated.

I would definately talk to your diabetes team before considering splitting a lantus dose. The opinion at the DAFNE Collaborative was that Lantus really was a 24 hour insulin that could not be split into 2 doses where as Levemir was not a 24 hour and could be split. This of course may not be the opinion of your specialists, like anything else it is not clear cut. But its always worth checking something like this before you do it in case there is a problem and you need support.

I was told exactly the same thing by my Nurse specialist. And after a bit of fiddling with my Lantus doses I seem to have cracked it.....for now!
