Topic: Site Development / Emailing diary

Hi All

I have just finished constructing a spreadsheet to record all my BG's and Carbs etc, i've even constructed a dosage calculator as part of the spreadsheet where you can automatically copy and paste your results, anything for an easy life Smile

If you would like a copy message me and i will send you the link to my web site where you can download it, i've created the spreadsheet and a template for either Excel 2007 to 2010 and Excel 97 to 2003.

Thank you

Aye as long as it's still availible to export into XL as my screen reader is a bugger to use with Adobe. It displays well for me in XL and i can read and adapt it if i need to like hiding rows and columns.

That sounds the ideal solution Simon. Sure way to enable a consistent output.
I don't think anyone can be short of Adobe for the web world of today.

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Accessibility for Blind/ VIP diabetics

hi, the card counting book is available in PDF, you can access it by clicking here Its true I dropped the accompanying text from the book and on occasion had to abbreviate the descriptions to fit into the web format. With regards to reading labels when out, in an ideal world all food will have what are called '2D barcodes' on it. This is the new kind of barcode that contains more than just a number but can contain a lot of text allowing things like product details and extra information. At the moment these are used as gimics and contain links to websites etc but could be used for a lot more. There are free readers for these in the app store. Anyway enough of the techno babble, hopefully the PDF version will help and the course is going well.

Hi all,

Your results will vary when copy-pasting to an email program from your web browser, as there isn't any consistency as to how web browsers copy the things you select, hence it seems a bit hit and miss.

One thing I did think of - I'm sure it would be possible to generate a PDF (adobe reader) file from the diary view and then attach that to an email.

If this sounds like a decent solution for you then I'll get working on it.

Thanks. I tried both of your suggestions. The xl did sort of work but is doesn't look like a normal diary. So I'm not sure how easy it is to read. Might have to get used to it.

I also tried the copy to the word processor but I couldn't get the font small enough for it to fit across the page.

Smile Day one and I'm finding it all ok but was wondering if I could get the book that gives the carb portions as a pdf or pref word doc?
the carb counter on this site is accessible but there isn't as much info as in the book.
I'm currently looking for other ways to help me count carb, i know there is an iphone ap that reads label, OCR but way too expensive.. i'm just wondering what i do when i'm out on my own and can't read labels or judge a portion size. Hmmm
thanks for your quick response.

Jenny,

Have you tried cutting and pasting from the printable into a word document. This works as i have just tried it.
Then you can attach the word document and e-mail it.

Try that.

Topic: Site Development / Emailing diary

Just wondered if anyone else has this problem or if is just me. (not related to updated website happened on new an old)

I like to copy and paste my diary to send to my diabetes nurse. Sometimes when I do to it just pastes a load of gobblydegook, some sort of computer code with my diary sort of visible but not in a readable format. It doesn't do it all the time. I have tried copy and pasting from the printable view and the normal view.

I just wondered if this was a problem with my email (googlemail via iPad) or something else.

Also wonders if it is possible to have an email diary function but I don't really know how these things work.

Thank you

Jenny

Hi

Is it feasible to make the forum text search to also search the contents? I believe it only searches the titles now.

Topic: General Discussion / Pain after injecting

Hi - just noticed this thread whilst searching for posts relating to using same needle type/size for both novorapid novopen and lantus solostar pen.

Adding to John H reply, I use 8mm BD Microfine for Lantus Solostar and 6mm Novofine needles for Novorapid Novopen. On advice from my clinic, I was asked to use the BD micro-fine 5mm for both lantus solostar and novopen. I found it very painful and after few days of perseverance I gave up and switched back to the BD Micro-fine 8mm for the lantus solostar and novofine 6mm needles for the novorapid novopen which cleared the problem.

Now 18 months on the clinic is recommending AGAIN that I use the same needles for both pens - suggesting using the novofine 6mm for the lantus solostar as well. I am hesitant as it is not recommended by the manufacturers of the lantus/solostar pens and also I have come across posts on forums mentioning leakage when wrong needles used and 6mm for me might be as painful as the 5mm was. Anyone uses novofine needles with lantus / solostar?

Topic: General Discussion / Dawn Phenomenon

Hey Gill.............

My belief is that everyone experiences the hormonal response that helps them up in the morning, so, glucagon release from the pancreas, cortisol, adrenalin etc, all these hormones will increase insulin resistance and push up blood sugars. Its just some diabetics struggle more to get it under control......

I take 2 doses of Levemir, one at 6:30am and another at 22:30pm, I have to take it later so as I have more Levemir in me at 3 am, prior to the hormone release, and I also need to eat something for breakfast, which tells the pancreas to stop its release of glucagon and subsequently the liver to stop releasing glucose........

You will experience this to some degree, it may just not be noticeable........

Topic: Site Development / New Format Website

Bit of a surprise to find a completely new format and an ideal crossover between the traditional website that we are all familiar with and smartphone based view.
Everything works well......and intuitively....not sure how to edit a post though. Thought the link and bouncing ball meant that I would be able to enter text edit directly as before.
Thanks to those who put in the work.
Congratulations Very Happy

Topic: General Discussion / Basal Insulin Testing

No, its just 3am is meant to be the time where the least amount of hormones are swimming about and so the best time to take a test of your basal, however if someone was to get up at 4:00am every morning for work, then 3am would not be hormone free, in fact an hour or two before you get up [your body clock expects you to get up] is when the hormonal responses begin...........

For you though, getting up at a normal time of 8am, 3am testing is fine............

From you results, you would assume you would need an extra unit or two overnight, lets see what the next few nights show............!
