Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / extremely high blood first thing in the morning Hello,Like you I used to have severe dawn phenomenon since I was a teenager (now 40), so I haven’t been able to eat breakfast in all that time as I’ve spent most mornings wrestling my glucose down. Your HCP may have not been convinced about splitting the dose as you’re on a relatively low dose but my DAFNE team recently suggested splitting mine (which I’ve never previously had suggested since starting a basal and bolus regime about 25 years ago) and it’s done wonders. I was previously on 46u Lantus at night but have now been able to decrease it down due to the splitting and am on 20u PM and 15u AM and am waking up with it fine for the first time in more than half my life. As it’s been a few months I hope you’re still doing well. I thought I’d share my experience as I wonder how many others are having similar issues and thought us sharing these experiences is exactly what this forum is for, so if anyone is having similar issues discuss this with your HCP. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / slow acting insulin I'm 78 and also sometimes have problems with insulin absorption especially in the tummy area. Unfortunately as we get older we tend to build a layer of fat around our middle and this interferes with insulin absorption. If you are injecting in the tummy area that could explain why you are having a struggle. You may have to use the thighs or the buttocks which is what I do. Not so hard as it sounds. I'm lucky as my missus is also happy to stick the needle in to my upper arms. Best of luck. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / slow acting insulin I have had type 1 diabetes for 6 1/2 years; I am 75 years of age.My big problem is the fast acting insulin acts slowly; I started on Apidra & it was taking 3 hours to have an effect; I moved on to FIASP & on the instructions it said it had to be taken 0 - 1 minute before eating; it still took 3 hours; I am now back on Apidra. What am I doing wrong because my because my blood sugar levels are higher than they should be. Thanks |

Topic: General Discussion / Anyone out there ? Hi all good here also in Essex. Had a telephone review without the bloods. I was going off track without using a diary however it gave me an incentive to get back in track again. What I cannot find is an app for Android phones. DAFNE really did change my life to get back on track |

Topic: General Discussion / Quick Reference Guide? I agree a small booklet or flashcards. I love that we have so much information to help us but sometimes you just want certain bits and not the whole workbook.![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Sick Day Rules Interesting that they've posted those. I guess even if you haven't done DAFNE it's beneficial to know the sick day rules, so maybe that's why they've allowed everyone access to that info.![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Anyone out there ? All OK here. I stayed home for 12 weeks as per advice from my local diabetes nurse and I'm still mainly at home with very occasional trips outside as and when needed. Luckily I can work from home.Diabetes wise all is going well. Still following the DAFNE principles. ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Covid 19 Hi,In May, an NHS report highlighted the large percentage of diabetics in the Covid 19 death stats & subsequently the high risk for type 1 diabetics. At a Downing St daily briefing, a member of the public asked if diabetics would now be added to the shielding list. Jenny Harries answer was that this was being reviewed. Since then I have heard nothing about this review. Several daily papers printed articles about diabetics having to lockdown. Does anybody have any information on this? |

Topic: General Discussion / Anyone out there ? Hi everyone,I'm doing really well in the circumstances. I increased my basal insulin due to being off work. Have managed to keep my levels in target range for 75 - 80%. Was very wary at the start of all of this, but I'm getting a bit more relaxed. I wear a mask and gloves when i go to shops or the chemist. Had a review over the phone which was weird. Need to get bloods done soon. The Libreview is predicting a 51 on the HbA1c, that would be great. |
