Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Problems uploading

Hi Marke,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I assumed that since the app had a designer it was checked by the 'Keith Clarke' that created it or that said person would know how to rectify the problem.
I left a message on here over a year ago asking if we could have an update of the android app so it did the same things the iphone app did e.g adding your own food entries.

And the iphone threads tend to be a bit more frequently dealt with, the app itself being slightly better, hence Android frustration.

I am very greatful for it so thank-you, it's just very frustrating when you come to rely on something and come up against the same errors and nothing can be done to change whats is otherwise a brilliant app.
I wish the government or someone would give you the funding necessary because it is by far the best thing out there for DAFNE users, especially as it is free.
SO
The message that comes up is 'Unexpected error: Uploading failed BG is not a number.'
I try to upload results from my old HTC and it will only upload to a certain point (only after 5 or 6 continuous attempts) and then displays the message above.
I tried several times between Sat 11th and Monday 13th January 2013 from around 5 or 6 pm.
Eventually as I said , it did upload part of the results but for some reason there are wholes in what it uploads,
e.g when uploading the last year, it completely disregards Oct and November and skips from September to Decemeber readings, despite them clearly being present on my old phone.

So when I look on my new HTC there are two months of readings missing, it's a bit baffling.
I suspect the error message has something to do with it.
I have even checked those results to make sure i haven't written BG in a box mistake or something, but no such luck.

Voila, thank-you for your time. Very Happy

Topic: General Discussion / Snacks

I think snack items and hypo resolve have to be identified as different things.

When treating hypos it should always be quick acting carbs, between 15 and 20g. I actually prefer the isotnic sports drinks, just ASDA's own, half of the bottle [500ml] does the job quickly.

Snacking though is different, snacking implies a small food item in between a main meal...... Very Happy

Something low carb and low GI would be best or even carb free...... Wink ........I try not to snack though as it just means I wont be on target for the next meal, which I like to see more often than not...kinda OCD thing going on.....

Topic: General Discussion / My Blood Glucose Diary - problems

Thanks marke for looking at it.
I always keep my results in my paper DAFNE diary anyway to upload later using multiple entry format. The automatic date entry seems to stop things on multiple entry and we get presented with the red border cells to input a date. Have tried pasting in dates throughout that input...but I'm afraid once it has gone awry...you get the problem warning window.
Have been able to upload my results from the last few days this morning by using single entries. So maybe multiple result entries time out on the server as it is exceptionally slow.
Regards
Garry

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Problems uploading

Hi, there is NO app design team. In fact there is no android developer at all at the moment. This site is run on a voluntary basis by DAFNE Graduates in their spare time. The apps were developed by people kind enough to give their time. This is why questions are not being answered at the moment. In addition there is an issue in the diary part of the site that 'may' be related to this. Can you please provide details of what the errors are and the date and time they appear, this will help is investigate the issue and hopefully provide a solution.

Topic: General Discussion / My Blood Glucose Diary - problems

Hi, Yes we have not resolved the issues at the moment. We are still trying to work out what the problem is, it works fine in our test setup but not on the live site for some reason. I WILL post on this thread as soon as there are any developments.

BGs can vary during your period...its to do with the hormones! True about Lantus, so prob best not to change, you're doing the right thing though checking for ketones and a small increase in ratios.
Suppose this is one of the advantages of the pump as you can set a temp basal for exactly this reason!

Topic: General Discussion / laser eye treatment

Hi, I had my first laser treatment about 23 years ago after a small retinal bleed. Since then I have had four addition sessions (two on each eye) with a total of five sessions. My current ophthalmologist says that he is very happy with the status of my eyes and that the laser treatment was obviously done well. My vision is such that I drive without glasses but need glasses for reading. I think my colour vision has been marginally affected though. I was also diagnosed with bilateral cataracts about 20 years ago but have been advised that they are very slow growing and that I may not see any real improvement in my vision. So we wait.

I found the laser sessions stressful and after one session developed a black eye. I found that the ophthalmic surgeon was pushed for time and it is a bit like a assembly line and you are only allocated so much time. I actually called a halt at the last session and said I could not do it any longer. I was abruptly told to go home and to ring up and make an appointment to have it done under a general anaesthetic. I returned to my ophthalmologist (not the surgeon) and he advised me to wait and he now thinks that I do not need any additional laser. It is not something I recommend but the outcome for me has been great. They are getting better at it all the time.

Pepsi's description is fairly accurate. You sit there with every instinct in your body telling you to shut your eyes. Best wishes, Helen

Maybe I'll start keeping a paper copy also incase of online problems.

Diary seems to be working today but still doesn't open up as quick as the other Dafne tools also when doing either multiple entries & updating entries it's very slow.

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Cholestrol

As my levels were so high I was referred to a lipids consultant, and it was him that said no statins etc until I decide my family is complete, regardless of how long that may be!! I was with the consultant for a year before he discharged me and now my diabetes consultant monitors it..he agrees no statins so they happy for me to tick along with slightly higher levels as I have brought them down probably as far as I can on diet only.
I would go back to your GP and explain about thinking of starting family and the risk of statin use...remember GPs won't know all the information, hence the need for specialists!

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Cholestrol

Thanks so much for replying and giving me that information it is very useful to me and now i understand a bit more as my gp did not really explain anything to me just told me i am on them for the rest of my life and thats it. I was just worried as i am only 21 years old and thought i was way too young to go on them but for some reason in the last 5 months my ldl has risen from a perfect 1.3 to 3.2 which is why they put me on them. And i was expecting the gp to say they would give me some time to lower it myself but i did not get that chance and yes I am hoping to start my own family with my boyfriend. I read that the statins are not to be taken when you are trying or pregnant

I think there have been some attempts at non invasive blood glucose measurement.

I think currently the blood meters use light/laser at the moment, its passes through the sample and then the light that returns is measured/analysed, and its that which gives the result. I think that's how they do it...

And I think recently they have been experimenting with similar technology where you shine light of longer wavelengths through your finger and that will give a reading, so I think we may be on the right track.

I still believe that an insulin pump is a pretty simple device though, in comparison to blood meters. Its just a tiny motor hooked up to a microchip which is programmed.

Have there been different models of omnipod, like a 2nd generation etc, upgrades, if not, they may have scope to refine any technology it currently uses like the built in meter....

Very Happy

Hi vickyp
glad to see your having them tests, hope there help with them dips,
Vickyp is right I'm on the Pod 2 slightly smaller and some improvements over the 1st generation omnipod,
your description of the new thinking of BG testing sounds interesting , just hope there can make the carrier more robust and less dependent on the conditions around it.

My GP happily prescribes the ketone strips...never had an issue in almost 12 months of having the optium meter!

Optium do testers which test blood glucose but at a cost of about £20 for 10 test strips GPs are not usually keen to prescribe the strips
