Topic: General Discussion / Testing then Injecting - how long?

Hi,

I tend to blood test as I am about to eat, as it arrives in a restaurant or as we sit down at home, then like I said I will inject straight away if I know the carbs and am not likely to alter the amounts or at the end of the meal if I am likely to binge Very Happy

Phil

NOTE: I may inject my correction at the beginning if I am running very high even if I don't know the carbs yet, gets the lowering action going even before the carbs kick in.

Topic: General Discussion / Testing then Injecting - how long?

Hi,

For me it depends on the meal, if its sarnies or something of known carbs I will inject before or during meal.

If its a buffet or the possiblity (very high with me Very Happy ) of going back for seconds I will inject after for the whole amount.

I have an alarm for my background insulin on my phone as its not at meals times.

I find alarms quite useful.

As it works fine for me and you and on the iPad it must be an environment difference, iOs version I'm guessing or a setting in the app or possibly on the phone?

Rich

It is something about your settings or the data you're entering as thankfully mine is working fine. I am sure Simon will be after info on what you're entering before you press save.

Sorry to rub it in Rich, hope you find the issue Simon.

Topic: Site Development / App update bugs

Hi,

Simon, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, after reading this (I rarely write comments, a 20+ BG says it all Twisted Evil ) I went into app and added comments, saved, went back in, they got wiped.

I did this on a hypo reading I had just done, I had previously removed the ratio as this makes no sense on a hypo (feature request, can we save blank ratios in the settings for non meal time reading such as hypo or before exercise?), adding the comment reintroduced this, if I had autocalc on I'm guessing that would have fired and removed any manual corrections too.

Few little undocumented features creeping in Crying or Very sad

This is purely for info as a bug report and a bit tongue in cheek, I am a developer for a living and know how these things happen Wink App is great and really useful, if I had had the time and inclination I intended to write something similar (you beat me to it), got as far as registering a domain, procrastination...

Topic: Site Development / Auto calculate QA from BG - let's get it right

Its working now, I just changed one thing at a time, exited, then returned and it was saved, thanks......

I was 8.2 before lunch, yet it didn't offer a correction, which for me would be 1, as it falls under 10mmol/l and therefore 1 unit drops by 2.5mmol/l. The calculation process shows that I need to come down by 2.4 to reach my target, so less than my correction will drop me.

Is this why its not giving me a correction?

Would I need to adjust my target..........

P.S. I did adjust Range target to 40% instead of 50%, and it gave me my unit........

I'm happy....... Cool

I found my targets of 5.5 to 7.5 it was aiming at 6.5 which is fine, but I was 12.3 and 2:1 would normally correct @ 3Units, but it suggested 2 as needed to drop 5.8 to get to 6.5, changed target range - 5.5 to 7 it calc'd 3 correction then.

I would lower some of the upper targets or the 50% target range, maybe 40%

As I have an Android phone I can't use the improved version yet Sad . Please let me know as soon as I can get hold of it, as I'd love to give it a workout.

I agree with Novorapid that the app should round to the nearest 0.5 unit or 1 unit (user-selectable). I have found this a nuisance in the current version (as I have said previously), which gives (say) 5 CPs x 1.5 QA:CP = 7.5 units, which I would prefer the app to round to 8 rather than me having to edit the calculated figure manually.

+1 for the rounding, with auto calc it could even be clever and round up or down based on your current BG over mid point in target range round up below mid point in target range round down.

Or so the 0.5 calc is not lost from the user perspective, round up or down as a +- type correction so it is obvious why a 5CP @ 1.5:1 is 7.5+0.5 not just 8, thoughts?

Simon, bet you hate smart arsed user comments like these, at work I do Wink

To help the guys above if you are indeed asking for it to remember your QA:CP ratio on a meal to meal basis you set your default ratios for each 'Type' in settings then specify targets. It always had this feature since I began using it end of May this year.

Cool, didn't know it was hidden here, thanks

Bug with it recalc after save still stands though

Hi,

I am asking for default QA:CP to be remembered/set

But also if you change it from 1:1 then save and go back in, it resets it to 1:1 and recalcs QA and adds or removes previous corrections, only way to stop this is to turn off auto calc.

Topic: Site Development / Auto calculate QA from BG - let's get it right

Hi,

Bug and feature request...

Bug...

I like the new calculations, but my ratios are dif at dif times of the day, never 1:1 either.

If I have a snack of 3CP it calcs 3QA + correction @ 1:1, I then change ratio to 1.5:1 and the QA is 4.5 which is correct.

If I save everything is fine, but if I need to go back in it resets back to a ratio of 1:1 and therefore resets QA to 3, I can't inject 0.5 so did 4.5+0.5 and it looses the 0.5 too.

Feature ...

I have background insulin twice a day and somehow it remembers I have 16 units in the morning and 20 in the evening. Could we set or it remember each meals ratio as a default so I don't need to change from 1:1 everytime?

Hope this makes sense.

Annette,

It's counter intuitive to what I got told and probably most diabetics in the past, but you need some insulin (horrid balancing act though as too much and hypo) in the system before exercise, if there isn't any the body can't get the energy it needs from the sugar in the blood and the liver panics and kicks some more sugar out (helpful).

Not sure if this helps explain the high? Might need a couple of units of QA before exercise, have some sugar handy too though, balancing act Exclamation

Topic: General Discussion / Levemir clogging needles

Alan,

Strange that novorapidboi26 and I don't seem to get this issue and he is on the diposable pens and mine the NovoPen 3 so that rules out the pen. Unless your pen is broken/faulty?

Have you spoken to anyone at the hospital about this? Just seems odd.

Hi,

Are you guys talking about the old syringe type needles or the screw on pen type? I reuse my pen needles until the insulin runs out (about a week), change the cartridge and the needle.

Never had any issues, what sort of complications are you expecting from this? Interested / worried!

Topic: General Discussion / Weight loss ?

John,

Just me two pence.

If food and exercise hasn't altered and control is good (bad control = Atkins diet) and you're still loosing weight I would go to the doctors, might be nothing to do with diabetes?

Topic: General Discussion / carb free foods

Hi,

Useful to know about nuts as low carb snack, I quite like wasabi peas too, a few good handfuls (or more Very Happy ) will raise my BG by about 2ish, never measure how many I eat though so not very scientific. May try brasil nuts instead.

it would seem both, I would be aiming for 5.5 mmol/l, so that would be 33%?

1 unit drops me by 2mmol/l when between 10-13mmol/l.....

3 units * 2 = 6 I would expect you to be at 4.8 on 3 units.

You wouldn't be able to get exactly to 5.5 like I couldn't get to 6.0 in my example.

You would need a correction @ 1:2 of 2.7 to drop by 5.4, Simon always rounds down for safety, the app should suggest a correction of 2 units here.

novorapidboi26,

Dif between 4.5 to 7.5 is 3 so 85 % is 2.55 so you are aiming at 4.5+2.55 = 7.05

3 units * 2 = 6 I would expect you to be at 4.8 on 3 units.

Is the % correct or the ratio?
