Topic: General Discussion / How long do meters last?

Does anyone remember checking the colour against the pot and guessing the level, pale was hypo, blue normal and purple/burgundy was high.

You had to leave the blood on the strip for 1 min then wipe and wait 1 min, 5 secs is too long nowadays Very Happy

Just had a browse, for the youngsters who don't remember the delights: http://smj.sma.org.sg/2402/2402smj2.pdf --> Figure 1 is what I'm talking about...

Topic: General Discussion / How long do meters last?

Hi,

1661 tests, 4.5 ish tests a day, being pedantic but how do you do 0.5 of a test?

I do 5 tests on a good day with more like 10 when hypo alot (yo-yo), they must rub there hands at those numbers Very Happy

Just moved from a OneTouch to an Accu-chek so I bet J & J won't be happy at loosing that income, I ran out of test strips once while out for the day so popped in boots to buy some, a pack of 50 was £17 (I cost the NHS about £1241 a year in strips alone), this was probably 5 to 10 years ago too.

Topic: General Discussion / PDF Flyer

Hi,

Just clicked one of the pdf flyer links, by accident actually, if the figures used for the average trend graph are real I want to congratulate marke, I would love to have averages of 6.7 / 7.3 / 5.7 / 8.5, my 7 day averages are 10.1 / 7.0 / 6.9 / 9.0 and thats trying to be good Very Happy

Topic: Site Development / Have "amber" colour for just-over BG

Hi,

I like the idea, but as a dev I'm guessing the database behind isn't geared up for this extra range/data, might be a bit of work.

Amber/Yellow results, would they have their own section in the graphs etc.. I can see this being widespread and possibly alot of work, but I'm sure Simons up for the challenge Wink

This might be completely wrong and really easy to implement, just my 2p

Phil

P.S I even had colour scales like this on an Excel spreadsheet I used to use before this site was available, had Amber, then Red then Purple/Burgundy for really bad results, tried not to get these Very Happy

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / windows phone app

Hi,

I'm not a windows phone dev, more Java/Android but a quick glance at the Microsoft website shows the latest versions of the os for the titan as 7 or 7.1 with no mention of 9, are you sure about this?

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Appendicitis and symptoms

Hi,

Did they say why Diabetics should have less severe symptoms? Just curious? With diabetes we normally tend to get a rough deal with illness even from a cold Exclamation

Hope you're feeling better now though.

Topic: General Discussion / Blood Testing Meters

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback, I've gone for the Accu-Chek Mobile mostly for the lack of strips to mess with and normal AAA batteries. It's at home waiting for me to play... how can I be looking forward to testing??? I've put a new prescription in for cartridge and lancets, does anyone know how many come in the box to get started?

The iPhone idea looks good, but I feel its a gimmick at the moment, what might be nice in the future is for a meter that has bluetooth so you could transfer to many different types of device?

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Snack Ideas - under 10g of carbs

alpen light cereal bars (double chocolate/chocolate orange/chocolate and fudge) are all exactly 10g of carbs per bar and only 60-70 calories! wee beauties! also sugar free jelly is great for a sweet tooth fix thats suagr/calorie and carb free!

Careful with sugar free jelly though, years ago I found as a child about 11 that it was free of carbs and therefore had loads at a party, its sugar free, but also a laxative Shocked

Might be different now that was more years ago than I care to work out Exclamation

Topic: General Discussion / Blood Testing Meters

Hi,

I've been a member of this site for some time, but only really started posting on the forums in the last few days (making a conscious effort with my control at the moment) so forgive me if this question has been discussed before (I would guess it probably has).

I currently have a One Touch UltraEasy which works fine, but being a gadget freak I am looking at a couple of new meters and wanted peoples opinions and reviews if they'd used them.

First is the iBGStar -- http://www.bgstar.com/web/ibgstar
I have an iPhone and like gadgets, my concern is it will record results on the phone, but not in DAFNE Online Sad and I am just looking at it as its a shiny new toy Very Happy (new toy may help make testing and control more interesting, had best control ever for first few months of iPhone DAFNE Online app)

Second is the Accu-Chek Mobile -- https://www.accu-chek.co.uk/gb/products/metersystems/mobile.html
I like the idea of no strips and it mentions 6 preloaded lancets, does anyone know how this works? I am terrible at changing my lancets Sad

I also like the idea of alternative site testing due to my fingers being a mess, but never really got this to work with any of the One Touch meters I've used, can never seem to get enough blood from other sites Sad

Any other meters I should consider? Ideas / opinions? Any meter I choose needs to have strips etc available on prescription in UK as buying them at their price is out of the question Exclamation (that's why many companies now give the meters away!)

Thanks in advance

Topic: Site Development / Injection site list

Hi all,

As a temp fix you could enter the BI as a separate entry when taken with QA then enter the new injection site, it might be better than cluttering the results further?

Just my 2 pence worth.

Topic: General Discussion / Dawn Phenomenon

My high carb meals are in the evening about 8 or 9, pizza/pasta/potatoes etc... (not all at the same time Very Happy )

Low carb meal alternatives when being good will be meat/fish with salad and possibly potatoes/bread, but 2CP not 10CP to 20CP as naughty meals.

Topic: General Discussion / Dawn Phenomenon

Hi novorapidboi26,

Thanks for the info, I have my Levemir split 12 hours apart 11am and 11pm with a bigger dose at night, I may try leaving the night one a bit later until I got to bed.

I do 3 (have carbs early) during the week, I have noticed when I'm on a diet and cutting out or having low carb meals in the evening I don't get DP, its to do with a heavy meal overnight I think.

Thanks

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / BG Average Algorithm

Hi,

I assume this is a question for Simon, but posting for others to see / answer / chip in.

I have noticed that the BG average on the website is giving a 7 day average of 9.4 ( I know this is not good Sad ), but the iPhone app is giving 9.7. Are the maths not the same on the iPhone or is this due to the iPhone also giving break/lunch/dinner/bed averages too, rounding error from using the 4 averages to work out the total average?

The 4 separate break/lunch/dinner/bed averages might be nice on the website for none iPhone users, it helps show when in the day I'm having issues, suppose on the the graphs show this though.

Its not an issue, just wondered? As a developer I tend to spot these things, it makes me feel better when there are wrinkles in other sites too Very Happy

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / upload error 503

Hi,

Is this related?

I am using the iPhone app (version 1.5.2 on iPhone 4 with iOS5.1) for my results and this morning (Mon 23rd April) it keeps moaning that my DAFNE Online credentials are incorrect, they have not changed, I have tried reentering them on the iPhone in case there was a time limit or something.

I can log in fine on the website, is the webservice down or moved?

Thanks
