Topic: Site Development / Auto calculate QA from BG - let's get it right

Mine should be fairly easy to check Very Happy

Current BG 15.3
Target minimum BG 5.5
Target maximum BG 7.5
% of where to aim for in target range (50% is in the middle of the range) 25%
QA:BG ratio (how much you expect your BG to lower given 1 unit of QA Insulin) 1:2
Expected dosage after calculation +4.65

On this I would give 4 or 5 depending on how exact I knew the carbs too. This should bring me down to 6.0.

Simon,

Do you want actual figures from previous days or made up perfect situations?

Topic: General Discussion / new meter

Hi,

I've just got the Mobile, it is ugly and chunky, but great not to have strips.

I went to nurse for BP and other stuff a few weeks back and she said that a new compact mobile is coming out soon which will be even better. Don't know if this is just a rumour? Not seen anything on Accu-Chek website.

P.S What I really want is one of these:

Topic: General Discussion / Medical Bracelet

Hi,

I'm thinking as I have had times of hypo unawareness (had a 1.8 this morning and only thought it would be about 4 as I hadn't noticed) I ought to get some id bracelet or dog tag.

Found a website with some nice stuff (not too tacky) http://www.icegems.co.uk/

They offer engraving, what do others have written on them? The one I like allows 5 lines of 25 chars.

Dave,

If you use a modern browser like Chrome you can zoom in and out of the page and the text scales, Ctrl + or Ctrl - or Ctrl and roll the mouse wheel. I have retinopathy and find this helps.

I created some nice screenshots for comparison to show you only to find you can't upload files on this forum Sad

There are also plugins for Chrome and Firefox for the visually impaired that dynamically alter the style sheet of the page to give different contrasts, White text on a black background etc...

Hope this helps.

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Odd readings

Steve,

It's counter intuitive to what I got told and probably most diabetics in the past, but you need some insulin (horrid balancing act though as too much and hypo) in the system before exercise, if there isn't any the body can't get the energy it needs from the sugar in the blood and the liver panics and kicks some more sugar out (helpful).

Not sure if this helps explain the high?

Topic: General Discussion / Hypo Awareness

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

With the long weekend I have made an effort to see if my background is correct so have gone carb and fast acting free, it seems fine as some of my meals must have had a few sneaky carbs I would be 6 or 8 before and go up to 11, but my background would keep me at 11 for hours.

Looks like my hypo issues are carb counting and over correcting!!!

On the plus side, back on the carbs now and overdosed for cheesecake 😉by running at 11ish for a day got full awareness back 😄

Reading around on the web I am wondering if NovoRapid is the best fast acting for me, I calc'd the cheesecake amount based on the box, but I reckon I still had some NovoRapid in the system from dinner 2 hours before, have seen Actripda (sp) is a lot faster acting, wonder if something like this might be better?

Thanks for all the feedback.

Topic: General Discussion / Hypo Treatment

Hi,

As mentioned on the DAFNE course, a small carton of Apple or Orange is about 2CP, perfect amount for a hypo, more bulky than Dextrose to carry round though.

Topic: General Discussion / Hypo Awareness

Thanks,

It might be my background, what I will probably do over the weekend is have carb free meals and keep testing.

What are good carb free meals, I was thinking salad, but tomatoes though I don't count them do have some.

Topic: General Discussion / Hypo Awareness

Hi,

Never had the best control, but recently I have made a concerted effort to lower my hba1c, just had blood test so we will see!

Problem is in tighter control I have been going hypo alot, I mean 4 or 5 times a day Sad

Yesterday and today I have a couple of 2.9s without any knowledge of them, no symptoms or anything, this worries me, I have never not had awareness!

If I loosening my grip on control will awareness come back?

How do others feel about this? Lower hba1c or awareness?

The list of low carb foods are Chard, broccoli, cauliflower, blackberries, Green, white, red cabbage, beet, carrots, red or yellow onions and pumpkin. Very Happy

beyond diet fraud

I agree with all of these except perhaps blackberries, 1 is 0.5g so that is low, but who has just 1, 20 is 10g or 1CP so be careful

Topic: Site Development / Standard Deviation..

Hi,

I like the sound of this, I normally run about 10ish, but when I do try to tighten control I yo-yo quite a bit due to almost being on the verge of a hypo, it would be nice to see the deviation on this yo-yo effect.

Topic: Site Development / Auto calculate QA from BG - let's get it right

Hi NRB,

From your corrections if you were 17 you would correct 10 or 11 units to get to 6 or 7mmol? For me I would be flaked out at that, shows how different people are Very Happy

Topic: Site Development / Have "amber" colour for just-over BG

Podarcis,

I know it may seem like only presentation, but a range of values for the amber colour is most likely needed and as a developer I would assume that this would be best placed in the database, possibly configurable like the ranges we already have. What I was saying is sometimes a little presentation tweak can mean a vast change behind the scenes if the data structures aren't setup for it. I don't work on the site so am only guessing, you may know better than me, I was trying to set people's expectations. Very Happy

Even if it is a lot of work, I still agree its a good idea

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Pringles

Hi,

I know this is hijacking the thread a bit, but we have scales at home too that calc carbs based on code, it was good when I first finished DAFNE, don't use it much now (except as scales for cooking) as just sorta guess/know the carbs in most food I eat Very Happy

We got it for about £15 from Argos, can't see it there any more it was 6 years ago Exclamation

But something similar on Amazon, but more pricey

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Salter-1406-SVDR-Nutritional-Scale/dp/B00281C3L8

While searching someone on DSF mentioned :

"Lidl are doing a Nutritional analysis scale, brand SANITAS from 23rd Jan 2012 at £9.99"

Pringles seem alot denser and heavier, interested now I might take 12 and weigh them (and them eat them Very Happy ). A Walkers multipack is 25g

How many CP in a tube then? Once you pop you can't stop

Topic: General Discussion / How long do meters last?

Anele,

Mixing insulin from 2 bottles into a single syringe with no air bubbles!

Things aren't great now, but they're alot better, DAFNE wouldn't be possible if you had to use syringes and bottles for every meal.

You had to inject once or twice a day and eat accordingly Crying or Very sad
As a child if I was hungry outside of food time it was cheese or ham, no carbs, but if I wasn't hungry at food time tough! I started home doing DAFNE when I got a NovoPen inthe early 90s Very Happy
