Topic: Site Development / Deleting Multiple Diary Entries We've added support for deleting diary entries now. You will see a check box next to each of your entries in your diary - check this and click the button below the diary and the selected entries will be deleted.Re the Consistency report - a great idea but pretty complex so will probably take some time - we will work on it though! Topic: Site Development / Glycaemic Index I apologise - there IS a reference to the Glycaemic Index in the DAFNE Course Handbook section. It gives a short list of high GI items and a list of low GI items. I appreciate that compiling and maintaining a full Glycaemic Index list would be quite a task, but I'm sure this facility would enhance DAFNE Online's reputation as a source of useful information.Alan |

Topic: Site Development / Glycaemic Index Alan,While I think this is a good idea, I'm not sure about referencing an external source that we have no control over. The web is a free for all publishing media where often the facts are only a minor inconvenience. For that reason I would rather ask DAFNE Central if they can provide us with GI infromation to publish ourselves. That way it comes from the 'DAFNE' source and hopefully can be considered accurate. I will ask the question and post what I get in response back here |

Topic: Site Development / Glycaemic Index Hi Alan,In my mind this would fit in nicely with our current CP listing - what are your thoughts? Thanks, Simon |

Topic: Site Development / Glycaemic Index I couldn't find any reference to GI in DAFNE Online and wondered whether it might be a useful feature. I know that DAFNE allows an 'eat what you like' approach to food, but I've also been told that a meal containing a mixture of low, medium and high GI items can give a steady release of glucose into the system, which is better than a sudden rush of glucose - which a high GI meal gives you. There are Glycaemic Index tables on the web and I wondered whether a link to one of these (e.g. www.glycaemicindex.com) would be something you might think feasible. A brief explanation of the Glycaemic Index might be necessary for those not familiar with it. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / GLUCOPHAGE Hi,You don't give any indication of how long you have been taking them, a day, a week, a month ? I don't think you can expect any drug to work immediately although when you were prescribed the Metformin they should have given you some indication at least of how quickly they will take effect. I think you should ALWAYS carry on taking them unless you agree with your Diabetes team that you will stop taking them. If they are not working why not contact your Diabetes Team and ask them why they are not having the expected effect. Out of curiosity, have you always been insulin resistant ? I ask because a lot of DAFNE Centres will not take people with insulin resistance onto the DAFNE course, mainly because their 'requirements' are different to Type 1's in general who tend not to be insulin resistant. Thats not to say people with insulin resistance cannot do the DAFNE course, it just tends to be 'easier' if all participants have the same general background in terms of their Diabetes requirements. |

Topic: Site Development / Meter Upload Development Hello,It's getting really close now. I have a program that can handle BG readings from UltraEASY and UltraSMART now, and we've started work on the uploading part. So far I can login, request BG records and create new ones from the website. Theres a little bit more to do, but it's definitely heading in the right direction. Stay tuned..... NiVZ |

Topic: General Discussion / Coeliac as well as Diabetic? hi everyone! i agree with Janys, Genius bread is fab! I have been testing rolls from them, which are very tasty, they are going on sale this year don't know exact date yet, but it is just something great to have as opposed to just bread.I don't get things on prescription as i don't eat enough pasta, bread to justify it, i didn't know i was Coeliac, but had almost given up bread as i had stomach pains, and would never have found out i had Coeliac until i was diagnosed Diabetic 4 years ago. Still find it hard sometimes, i work for M&S and some of their new Simply Fuller Longer meals are gluten free and delicious! Our wee group seems to be getting bigger, thank god as i was beginning to feel isolated. Sixtall, welcome what is your name? speak soon everyone sandra |

Topic: General Discussion / Coeliac as well as Diabetic? Hello to you all, I must just say that I have found Genius bread (fresh in daily at Tesco) has made a big difference. Although it is quite expensive, it's much more like normal bread than the rest and not at all like the usual cardboard, and easy to get hold of so makes life seem more normal.I have also found that doing DAFNE has helped such a lot, because it's given me more flexibility with meals, being able to miss a meal or have less carbs. I used to get in a terrible state trying to find enough carbs that were gluten free in restuarants, when out etc. I'd be interested to hear any experiences of gluten free when travelling abroad. (I've heard Italy is good as they have a lot of coeliac). I can vouch for West Wales where lots of people have it and they treat you very well. Wishing you all well, Janys |

Dear Sandra, I have had type 1 Diabetes for 28 yrs and I was diagnosed Coeliac 3 years ago at Manchester Royal Hospital . I have adjusted well to my Gluten free diet . The main drawback with the food especially in the "free from" sections in the supermarkets are as well as being Gluten free the foods are also wheat /soya/milk free making them virtualy tasteless For the prices not worth the money . If you like cereals as I do , Sainsburys cornflakes ,rice crispies ,are suitable for Coeliacs ,and being Diabetic /medically exempt able to get all my bread (Glutafin sliced bread ) , biscuits etc free on my monthly prescription from my GP .I have just done the D.A.F.N.E. course and found it very rewarding I now feel less worried about other people having to take care of me with hypos etc The course has given me the confidance to take control of my Diabetes hopefully to give me a better quality of life from now on .The very best of luck to you for the future |

Topic: General Discussion / Access to courses. I live in Milton Keynes which does not run DAFNE courses but my GP along with a group of others persuaded the PCT to fund patients who wanted to do a DAFNE course in Northampton. The theory is that if they have to fund enough people 'they'll see the light' and start thinking about running the courses in MK. So it really is worth keeping the pressure on. |
