Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Am i counting carbs right

Hi Steve, Like Marke i have recently graduated, in fact last day of course was yesterday! I m on a 1:1 ratio and during the course i ate meal over 20 cps which in fact is not really a large amount for a three course meal. do record what you eat, as long as you count your cps correctly and inject accordingly you will be fine. A couple of things here - I sometimes find that if your BG is above 11, then the insulin seems to bring them down by less than the expected 2-3mmol/l per unit of QA insulin, so a bigger correction may be needed.

Hi Ryan i am not so good with Ratio part it confused me and couldnt quite follow it Are you doing 10 grams of charbohydrate to 1 unit of of QA I myself am a bit of the scale too and just been to Diabetic clinic to get back on track can i ask Thur 22/4 12.45 BG 14.5 CPS 14.5 SO QA 15 THAT COVERS WHAT CARBS YOU HAD so why have +4 corrective when potentually 4 units would drop bloods by 10/12 so sugars should of been 2.0 ??? Il help if i can
Marie also wed 21/04 12.30 pm BG 17.9 SO YOU NEED 4QA CORRECTIVE but you didnt do it ?? then 2 hrs ltr 14.30 bg 16.9 and you had +3 corrective can you explain to me why

Hi Mark Im the same as Andyt changed to Levimir and split the dose imto 2 10.30 am + 10.30 pm and works far better for me and last 24 hrs

I had this problem a few years back as I'm also very slim and found my injections sites were getting very sore.

I found a simple solution which was to use a smaller sized needle (I wasn't aware that they came in different lengths until someone else told me). I'm now on the smallest size needle (6mm) and that really helps (I think I was on a 12mm before).
You may have already tried this, but if not I hope it helps.

Hi Had 3 fishcakes last night for Dinner but think iv miscalculated CP,S I had 2 units of Insulin to cover 3 fishcakes but forgot about Ruskoline Dresisng does anyone know what cps are in Ruskoline or how many CP,S should i of had resulting in BG 20.4 at 10.30 pm last night

Hi Marie,

Try entering the correction without spaces, e.g. '8+4' rather than '8 + 4'.

Hi, I have been using my stomach as my sole injection site for the 3 years i've been diabetic because I don't have any fat anywhere else that I can inject in to. My doctor has told me to change so I have been using my arms, legs and buttocks but when I inject I get a dull throbbing pain afterwards. I literally struggle to pinch 1cm of skin and I wasn't sure if I was injecting in to something I shouldn't. Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone have any tips?

I have seen a dietician to try to put weight on but I really struggle. I eat more than most people and a lot of what I eat is carby. I also run and play squash but don't want to stop excercise just to give myself something to inject in to.

I asked my doctor about the possibilty of a pump but he said that the trust won't pay for them. Does anybody have any info about this as well? I thought nice guidelines meant it was patient choice

I am appalled that people ( a nurse especially) would be so narrow minded to think that injecting in public is a "no no". People eat in public and diabetics inject in public - dealt with it - it keeps us alive.
