Topic: General Discussion / Ratios tryed them all Thanks Marke for your sensitive reply. Your point about people contacting their Health care teams is a very valid one. With hindsight (aint that a wonderful thing!!!) I should have mentioned that too. Best wishes, jan. |

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries Hello .. just to say I tend to agree with Stew B .. I gave up on the list a long time ago! As in previous posts, I still feel an auto calc option would save a little time in many entries.Cheers, JD |

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries Hi SimonIs it possible to remove ratio(s) from the drop-down list? Each time I use a different ratio it seems to get added to the list - and I think that this includes any errors that I make (!). As a result my drop-down list has become quite long, and its now just as quick to enter ratios manually. It would be good if it was possible to manage the list by deleting ratios that are no longer used or that have been added in error. Stew |

Topic: Site Development / Entry type Hi, is it possible to have a few more options on the entry type drop down box? There is an option for hypo but what about a correctional option? Is it also possible to have an option for snack or when injecting background as these all have to come under 'other' at the moment Also, is it possible to show injection sites on the diary as this may help me understand my results and look for patterns easier? I must say though that I am extremely happy with the site, i have found it very useful and has helped me a lot. I stopped writing my results down in books as i found i forgot to take it with me and it wasn't much help with a few sporadic entries but this online version is very handy. Good work! Thanks, Lee |

Topic: General Discussion / Ratios tryed them all oops, sorry, sounds like I have upset you, poor timing on my part. I just happened upon this thread and wanted to respond thats why I handn't replied before. I apologise if it did seem as I was picking you for criticism, that wasn't the intention. What I wanted to point out was that people should contact their Diabetes team if they are having issues rather than relying on the advice of others. The advice of fellow diabetics IS good and benefical but so is medical advice that mostly we are not qualified to give. |

Topic: General Discussion / Ratios tryed them all Hi marke. i was merely offering an opinion when i replied to the thread about ratios. Just for the record, I am a HCP with a qualification in Diabetes although my response was MERELY as a fellow diabetic of 30 years. i am NOT someone who believes they know everything : far from it in fact. The poster himself had already mentioned insulin resistance so I did not feel I was coming accross with a totally new theory? I did note you saying this was NOT a criticism of me personally however I noted you had not replied to any of the previous posts where others had offered suggestions so it was hard not to see it in that light. No offence meant but felt I wanted to clear this up. |

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries Hi Simon,Thanks for adding the 'Snack' option! As for alcohol, I usually just record it as e.g. 3 cans, 1 pint, 1 glass of wine etc. depending on what I'm drinking! Thanks again Steven |

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries Is anybody else experiencing this? It may be that we need to look at a better web host which can handle more people. Amanda - which web browser are you using? It seems to be posting twice for you every time you post a forum message. Also, is it only at certain times of weekend that you experience this? |

Topic: General Discussion / Ratios tryed them all Hi, generally I guess 3:1 is true but everyone is different and there are exceptions to every rule. It 'could' be insulin resistance but that doesn't necessarily mean Type 2, there are a number of diabetes variations such as MODY that are also possible. That said its really an issue to discuss with a diabetes support team. If you google you will find a million 'lay' experts that appear to know everything there is to know about diabetes and will give you endless medical advice, however none of them are medically trained. This is NOT a criticism of Tanglyjan just a general observation, its good that people ARE making suggestions to help each other. Just bear in mind that advice you recieve is generally from other diabetics that are often as unsure as everyone else about Diabetes. That is especially true for any advice I give, I'm a computer geek not a doctor ;-) |

Topic: General Discussion / level of bi Thanks for your reply. I have been increasing all week and fingers crossed the bg levels are beginning to come down. I do feel levemir does keep my bg levels more steady. Before if I had a couple of glasses of wine I would always feel like I had to eat loads. Doing my checks during the night shows now that I donkt need to do this so much. |

Topic: Site Development / Online BG Diaries Hi Steven,I've added the Snack option to the drop down for you. I'll take a look at sorting your other requests over the weekend. How do you currently record alcohol? Units? Thanks, Simon |

Topic: General Discussion / Ratios tryed them all Hi paul. I have just completed Dafne and we were told we should not be needing more than 3 units per CP as a ratio i.e. 3:1. They told us that if this was the case then it was the Background Insulin that was not right. However, you seem to be needing massive amounts of insulin for someone with Type 1 and it looks to me like you have insulin resistance. How old were you when you were diagnosed?? Are you a classic Type 1 i.e dramatic onset of symptoms or do you think you are really Type 2 perhaps? Just a thought. take care. |

Topic: General Discussion / level of bi to echo Karl's comment, Dawn Phenomenon is where your body releases hormones to prepare your body for waking up in the morning. This causes a rise in BG that is more pronounced in some people and can often be mistaken for the 'rebound' effect from a hypo. With regard to the amount of Levimir required, I would not worry about 'recommended amounts'. Every person is different and can even vary their requirements over a period of time, any kind of 'recommended amount' is based on generalised statistics NOT individual requirements. The best option is to keep following DAFNE rules and find the correct level for you, if you are worried about this talk to your DAFNE educator. I'm sure they will be more than happy to advise you. I'm struggling with a similiar problem at the moment and I'm not sure if its BI or Dawn Phenomenon, the only sure way to find out is adjustment and testing. |

Topic: General Discussion / level of bi Thanks for your reply. I've been doing some research and it looks like when I changed to levemir other people have suggested you need more levemir than lantus. |

Topic: General Discussion / level of bi Thats not my understanding of it and I guess this has been ruled out by the 3am checks! The dawn phenomenon is due to , as I understand it, hormones released during the night. |

Topic: General Discussion / level of bi If you are having dawn phenomenon the last thing you want to do is increase your BI. Dawn phenomenon is where you blood sugar goes so low so your liver releases all the sugar it has stored up in it to stop a very bad hypo. I’m no pro so check it with a DSN or doctor.Marc |

Topic: General Discussion / level of bi helloI am relatively new to DAFNE and whilst I am quite small I feel like I am having to keep increasing my bi. I changed from lantus to levemir and have already put this up to 13 in morning and 14 at night and it looks like I need to increase this again. On doing some 3am checks it appears I may have a bit of the 'dawn phenomonon'. Does anyone else feel like they are taking quite a lot of BI in relation to the recommended amounts for height and weight. |
