Just wondered how peoples employers reacted to requests for time off to go on your DAFNE course. At Russells Hall Hospital were I go we do our course which possible isn't DAFNE as such but similar over one Saturday and then 4 Thursday afternoons spread over a month then two follow up meetings in the afternoon one month after the course then two months later.

I just wondered how your employers reacted? Did you get the time off as sick leave like a normal clinic visit? Did you have to take it off as holiday or make the time back up? Interested in this as myself and another college at work have done the course at Russells Hall and we both had to make up half the time we had off. But it took a lot of stuff to get. What did others find esp as the DAFNE course is done in a one week block?

Perhaps DAFNE could do with writing a letter setting out a business case for itself for employers advising better control therefore less chance of complications and clinic vists so time off work.

Hello
This is my first posting after graduating from DAFNE during the February half-term........there you go February half-term!!!......... working in a school, there is very little likelihood of schools releasing teachers for a DAFNE course as they have to pay for cover (£180 - £200 per day). Hence I and other school based employees HAVE to do it in holiday time.

Hi,
My employer (Mono Pumps in Manchester - about 400 employees) allowed me to have the week off with pay. I was on nights for the follow up and booked a holiday.

Hi, i work 4 days a week. My employers gave me 2 days paid leave and i had to use 2 days from my annual leave allowance. I thought this was generous. I will also be given paid leave to attend the DAFNE follow up session.

Hi there,

Having just completed the DAFNE course this is my first post on the site!!!

I had to take 4 days holiday and a flexi leave day which basically is a day I have earned in time put in, as the company I work for works on flexi time, as they would not grant me the time off as I was told by my employer the course was on a voluntary basis.

In response to DAFNE producing a letter... There is one that does just that.. It explains everything from what DAFNE is and the benefits to an employer.. I was sent this from the DAFNE co-ordinator... for my employer which i presented to them... unfortunatley made no difference.

Hope this helps

Cheers

My boss said I could take a week off as paid sick leave, mind you I take less sick leave than everybody else anyway! I do take the odd days leave for eye clincs ect though, don't like to take advantage.

I did my course back in January and I had the full week off with pay. I did come in after we had finished each days to bits and bobs but work have been great about it all and all the follow meetings as well.

I completed my course last week. I just handed in the letter which my course administrator sent me and they never mentioned anything. I explained that I was attending not only for my own health but to minimise the need for more hospital trips etc and left it up to them to decide whether they wanted to support me or not and it was all fine!
