Topic: General Discussion / Libre to be available on the NHS..... If the NHS fund these for children then I am happy to pay for mine!Diabetic for 47 years and have beenon the libre for 2 week trial now and it is brilliant and am going to cut out something to fund it. For all these years I have put up with injections and testing so the new Libre is the best thing to have happened to me since slice bread was invented!!! It will be worth it but of course if the NHS fund it for me I will be truly and utterly grateful for giving me a new start to go forward. I have got this far and have a good record so it can only make it better for me, but of course I know it will be a postcode lottery. |

Topic: General Discussion / Benefits of a Insulin Pump to my Life David simpson DAFNE Graduate 5 posts David simpson DAFNE Graduate 3 posts I have had a Insight Insulin Pump the freedom of Not injection each time I eat .The Pump is set out To deliver the right amount of QA to match the carbs In the meal. All the time the pump is giving BG insulin Just like your own pancreas. You have to test a lot more and make sure the pump is working .. You have to change site and cannula every 3 days and insulin cartrage the same time .But the pump can be programmed to your individual needs. It has given me my life back .AS DAFNE course did last year it is amazing . David You test Blood glucose is checked a lot more times around 300 a month you receive funding for it if you meet the requirements and funding is granted it took me since the DAFNE course to get it but I was very close to been in a coma BG 2 now I am in the green most of the time no fear of Not waking up in the morning big thank to Joe and the Diabetes Teams at Kingston and at Dorking Community Hospital Pump Unit. David David simpson DAFNE Graduate 5 posts . Education is the key to the pump and Diabetes and carb counting and blood glucose testing to live a long life without worry of Diabetic complications. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / NEWBIE Hello EveryoneI recently graduated and am pleased to join this group. I just wanted to introduce myself. My HbA1C is 53 and i would like to get it down to 47 or below. I find that colder days and winter months have me craving carbs and doing less activity. Logically I know this does not help me but I do find it really hard. May I ask how you get motivated to exercise ( I don't have a dog either-love my cats) during these dull cold days? What tools do you use the keep your carbs low but your body content with a good warming 'hearty' meal in autumn and winter months? Many thanks in advance ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Libre to be available on the NHS..... Many people won’t get it each sensor is around £60 you will only get it in certain circumstances... a scan of a libre is also not recognised by dvla as a pre driving glucose test.. I’ll get mine on nhs as I was going to get it independently funded anyway as I am a scaffolder that has no hypoglycaemic awareness |

Topic: General Discussion / Libre to be available on the NHS..... At the Diabetes APPG meeting they had that lead to the decision, they did not neglect to mention the notorious postcode lottery issue. I really expect it to have the same barriers people have for getting things like insulin pumps, so definitely agree about not holding one's breath.![]() |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / morninghypers Hi,Could be a number of things. Firstly what BI do you take and are you injecting it just once a day ? Its possible its BI but not necessarily. It could be something called Dawn Phenomenon which is where you body pumps around lots of chemicals to wake you up and get you going after sleep. I detected this with a Freestyle Libre ( see other forum posts). I would check BI first though... |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / morninghypers i am a recentgraduate.i have tweaked my ratios and correcions and my daytime meal bg is all on target, but i have a recurring pattern of my first before breakfast bg being 11-14. despite being 8.5 before bed, 5 hours after tea and with no snacks or sugar drinks, 1. what is the cause (slow carb release? sleep hypo, glycagon>liver relese, insufficient bi) 2. what is the solution? Topic: General Discussion / DAFNEplus Survey As you may or may not know the next version of DAFNE called DAFNEplus is currently in the research stage. This means a new version of the course will be developed and then 'tested' to see if it gives better results than the current version. Part of this 'research' is a survey that we have been asked to promote on DAFNEOnline. To quote themThe survey opened last week and will close at the end of October 2017. It's open to 18-75 year olds with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Our aim is to assess various diabetes specific quality of life measures. There are more details here on the webpage ( http://www.yoursay.org.au/ ) and also in our blog post - https://dafneplusresearch.wordpress.com/2017/09/05/dafneplus-have-your-say-on-quality-of-life/ So please do go and fill it in and it may influence DAFNE Courses in the future........ |
