Topic: General Discussion / What made you smile today?

Its so easy for us diabetics to feel a bit down when things arent going right, so here's a thread to post some happiness!

So, here it goes!

Knowing that my big book order was going to arrive either today or tomorrow made me smile today. Smile

How about you? Share away!

EDIT! Two of my forty something ordered books have arrived! Yay!
They are "Kick Ass: The Graphic Novel" and "Mark Miller Omnibus: Wolverine"... enjoying them immensely! ^_^

The team I deal with in two hospitals are registered here and I have spoke to a few through the PM facility........

Obviously they would need to participate in their own time which can be difficult......

When I say general advice I purely mean participation, getting involved in the discussion, as opposed to divulging sensitive information........the more HCPs involved the more diverse the knowledge and experience....

You can check the HCP number in the user list......

What kind of "general" advice are we talking about? Most threads are DAFNE advice specific. I do agree that its a shame there's not more HCPs... On another thought, how many HCPs are aware of the site? Im not really sure how many HCPs are on the site at the moment...

After seeing it again, I think the forum post error message is just telling me that the thread is not available on DAFNE Online. Perhaps the thread address links are different when on the mobile site...

Yeah, its through the mobile internet version of the site. Sad Im using it right now. When posting BGs, its like it knows the script to add the entry but doesnt know how to stop once its sent it through. On a related note however, whenever I post a forum post (like I am now) I get a error message after posting it... But the message still goes through (like this post)? Very strange!

The same problem is happening when I try updating my blood diary still. Is anything going to be done or is this something that will be fixed with the coming server change? Do I really have to consider a new phone if not?

I know my DAFNE team have expressed concern about patient confidentiality while communicating with me through this site... Perhaps this also explains the lack of HCPs. I dont blame them at all for being wary.

As you suggest, the cold drops to the bottom of the fridge and your insulin may be too cold.
I'm lucky. Our fridge has a covered tray right at the top of the door.
When I measured using our oven/meat cooking digital thermometer showed this area of the fridge at +2°C in summer.....but I must admit I have not checked it under current conditions!
I'll have a look tonight and post the outcome.

Garry

We're just looking at improving the way the website looks, new colour schemes - a bit more streamlined and '21st century'. Basically - a facelift!

I'm glad to hear there are no ketones. Smile No worries about being moany, even I would be when it comes to control loss! If you feel it might be linked to fridge temp and damaged insulin, keep an eye out for a small thermometer and put it in your fridge... Provides piece of mind! Besides that, I hope the insulin restock solves the issues you're having. Smile

thanks for the reply. I should have said that I'm testing for Ketones and not showing any. My main area of suspicion at the moment is that my insulin is inactive. When I finished the dafne course, I got all my insulin pens, put them in a clear plastic box and put them on the bottom of the fridge, in the salad drawer - my feeling now is that it's too cold for them there, and that it's made my QI ineffective, so the lantus is in effect doing all the work. I took 20 units of QI last night and it hardly affected my bloods at all.
I've thrown out all my existing pens and will replace them today.
I do appreciate the help, and apologise that my first post is a moany one - i'm quite chirpy normally Smile

Topic: General Discussion / Android App

Very keen for the android and other apps: saw the iphone one on a friends phone and VERY tempted to swap to an iphone just to get it... Coming to the end of my contract in the next few months so would love to hear any news which might sway my decision about which phone to get next!

It is very puzzling to look at... try not to be disheartened though. Keep working at it.

Besides the one off good result during the day, your results do seem to be fairly consistent - I mean, looking at the last day (7/12), 10 - 12 is not that much difference. This suggests that you mainly need to put your BI up... but saying that, your 5/12 results are very strange.

With this...

How are you feeling? Have you been testing for ketones? There is also the possibly that illness could be affecting your insulin responses.
The common cold affected me recently so it's a thought that comes to mind. Sad

Hopefully a HCP will also reply to this thread... if not, best contact your DAFNE team for advice.

Yeah... I have a lot on my mind at the moment with my car and motorbike tests coming up so a lot of my hobbies are taking a back seat at the moment. I have ordered some more reads though, so this might change soon... I need the distraction considering it's been a bit of a stressful time!

If I think of any more good thread ideas, I'll post them... how happy are we with things like forum word games and the like?
I'm sure we have a varied group of ages on here too which makes it a bit difficult to pin point what makes good subjects to start up... I felt the books would be a safe bet - maybe I should start one about films too?

What sort of graphics are we talking about Simon? Cool to hear we're looking at a server upgrade. Smile

I agree - as well as being diabetic we're all people too with interests above and beyond controlling our blood sugar levels so feel free to discuss anything! And as always, ask us if you want more features on the site. Over the next few months we'll be upgrading our servers, as well as improving the graphic design of the site (though Mark and I are Computer Programmers, and as such have little to no artistic flair, so any help would be appreciated!).

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong

Hi Folks -

I'm a recent DAFNE graduate, and prior to the week I was on 40 BI and roughly 30 QA per day, with not great control. My last HB1aC was 9.4%

For the week of DAFNE, I went to 22 BI and QA ratio of 1:1 and typically, while I was doing the course, my bloods were pretty good.
However in the last ten days or so, it feels like I've lost all control and I cannot see what I'm doing wrong. I've gone back up to 26 BI and 3:1 ratio and my bloods are constantly over 10. I wake with a BG of something like 13, take a correction of +4 NovoRapid and two hours later my bloods have gone up.

At the moment, I can only think of two possibilities: I've wrecked my insulin (I store it on the bottom shelf of the fridge) or I've coincidentally become super-resistant to insulin in the last two weeks. Just today, at 4pm I had BG of 12, took 15 QA out of frustration and two hours later my bloods had dropped by maybe 2.

If anyone can offer any advice, i'd be grateful. I feel like such a failure at the moment.

thanks,
Caimin

Hope all those stories are successful ones of keeping control despite the excessive treats that we have to endure! How many units of insulin!!!
Some people were sharing book enjoyment a few weeks ago.
