Topic: General Discussion / Forums Have Gone Quiet

As of today there are 263 people registered with the site as HCP's. They may not all be active or logging in all the time and part of the issue is confidentiality. I think its just a culture thing that hopefully will gradually change, the problem is not always the HCP's but the management of the PCT's who have dictated that HCP's should not talk to patients on sites like this in fear of potential legal action. That doesn't stop everyone however and indeed there are some failry senior people within DAFNE posting on this site. I think we just have to give it time and hope that eventually people realise that there need not be huge legal implications with giving general advice to patients via the internet. Lets face it there are plenty of people who are willing to give adive who don't have a clue what they are talking about. I'm not referring to anyone on here or diabetics in general just the internet in general. I have read some seriously dangerous and mis-leading 'medical advice' on the net, its much better to get advice from real medical staff.
Still as I say, if we keep plugging away, eventually things will change we just need to wait....

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Needlessly Repeated BG Results...

Okay many thanks Simon. It's great that I can post on the forum on it, but it would be great to be able to post BGs on the go too! Smile
Let me know if or when you'd like me to test it again.

Hi JWo, I've not noticed any errors in our logs, but will do some investigation for you over the weekend.

Topic: General Discussion / Forums Have Gone Quiet

We presented DAFNE Online at the DAFNE Collaborative earlier this year - told them all about it and the benefits, and there were about 120 DAFNE Educators/Doctors/Dieticians there. There was really positive feedback on the day, and we even got some more HCPs signed up too.

The problem is that they are stretched to the maximum so I should imagine that it's pretty difficult for them to log on to the site. We did try and make it easier for them by having a dedicated forum for HCP questions, so they can direct their viewing there.

If your DAFNE Educator's aren't signed up to the site, get them in touch with us ([email protected]) and we can get them signed up as HCP's.

Also if you think of any other ways to help them get more involved, let us know.

Topic: General Discussion / accu-check

is any one else having problems refilling the prescription for the bg test strip cassettes for the accu-chek mobile meter, i have contacted roche diagnostics and they have stock so the problem seems to be with the wholesaler in my area at least. apart from that i am happy with the flexibility of the machine.

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong

thanks all. In retrospect, I think it was my Lantus dose - I've upped it to 30 and things seem to be grand now. I don't really understand why 22 was fine for the DAFNE week and it's gone up now, but the main thing is that things have resolved themselves. Is 8 units a big change? I'm not really used to adjusting doses, so maybe it's a minor thing, and I just think that an adjustment of 8 is a bigger deal than it is.

I'm on lantus and novarapid and store it in the middle compartment of the fridge door as per Dafne instructions. The information leaflet enclosed with both N/R & lantus say to store them between 2 - 8 celcius & not too near the freezer section or cooling element (where ever that is ). I agree with Garry that cold does drop to the bottom. Good to hear that your problem was resolved.

Topic: General Discussion / What made you smile today?

Today I was carefully baby stepping along an icy path and passing a couple walking the other way when the girl slipped on the ice and fell. Her boyfriend tried to help and started to pull her up but he slipped and fell too, knocking her back down onto the path and landing on top of her. They both couldn't get up off the ground because they were laughing so much. That made me smile.

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong

Hi guys, just thought I'd give a very early update. It looks like things are better today, bloods at lunchtime were 5 and after carb free dinner were 7. I think possibly my n/r was compromised and the lantus was doing all the work. I'll come back in a day or so to confirm. Nice having the backup here, hope I can pay it forward soon.

Its so easy for us diabetics to feel a bit down when things arent going right, so here's a thread to post some happiness!

So, here it goes!

Knowing that my big book order was going to arrive either today or tomorrow made me smile today. Smile

How about you? Share away!

EDIT! Two of my forty something ordered books have arrived! Yay!
They are "Kick Ass: The Graphic Novel" and "Mark Miller Omnibus: Wolverine"... enjoying them immensely! ^_^

The team I deal with in two hospitals are registered here and I have spoke to a few through the PM facility........

Obviously they would need to participate in their own time which can be difficult......

When I say general advice I purely mean participation, getting involved in the discussion, as opposed to divulging sensitive information........the more HCPs involved the more diverse the knowledge and experience....

You can check the HCP number in the user list......

What kind of "general" advice are we talking about? Most threads are DAFNE advice specific. I do agree that its a shame there's not more HCPs... On another thought, how many HCPs are aware of the site? Im not really sure how many HCPs are on the site at the moment...

After seeing it again, I think the forum post error message is just telling me that the thread is not available on DAFNE Online. Perhaps the thread address links are different when on the mobile site...

Yeah, its through the mobile internet version of the site. Sad Im using it right now. When posting BGs, its like it knows the script to add the entry but doesnt know how to stop once its sent it through. On a related note however, whenever I post a forum post (like I am now) I get a error message after posting it... But the message still goes through (like this post)? Very strange!
