Topic: General Discussion / OneTouch users beware Thanks for your replys all - my doctors surgery gave me a meter to tide me over but it turned out to be broken with expired test strips. So I went to the late night pharmacy (a different boots) and bought a new meter, whilst I was there I asked them if they had any OneTouch Ultra strips and they said... Yes! No supply problem or anything. So today I went into the original Boots to complain and tell them they had to refund me for the meter purchase - after going away to consult with the area manager they said they'd refund the meter, get my OneTouch strips in for tomorrow and also gave me a £10 gift card for the trouble. Guess they don't like being exposed as liars....Anyway, the new meter I got is an AccuCheck Aviva Nano, and I much prefer it to the old OneTouch Ultra, so today I went into the docs and got my prescription changed to the Aviva strips/lancets. The moral of the story - don't trust what the pharmacist tells you! |

Topic: General Discussion / Hello Hey Daniel, I"m from Melbourne too. Sounds like you're pretty level headed about having Diabetes only 10 months down the track, as I sure wasn't ! I only wished I'd heard about this forum before I'd done the Dafne course as it's extremely informative & supportive. All the best. |

Topic: General Discussion / OneTouch users beware A couple of weeks ago when I went to my local Morrison's pharmacy, I had the same problem. They too said there's a shortage, but gave me my prescription back so I could try elsewhere. Fortunately, another local pharmacy had plenty in stock! |

Topic: General Discussion / OneTouch users beware I will be putting in a prescription again soon... hopefully no problems will come up (I go to a Lloyds/Co-Op usually).I've only used a Boots once, can't say it was the most reliable service but sometimes it's good to know there is a 24 hour pharmacy option somewhere. ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Some advice please Keep going with the 22 units and try and have a carb free night, I know this may be hard to do, but its worth it in the end, and it means you can change your dose confidently............The main use of metformin is to help your body process insulin better, so dropping your resistance to it, used commonly in type 2 patients, whose main problem is resistance...............but as you have experienced it can upset the stomach, sometimes referred to as metfartin..........this in turn I would imagine lower your appetite and contribute to loss of weight....... Resistance is also helped by activity, the more your muscles works, the more doors they create to let fuel in, and so absorb insulin much faster............but I am sure you have been hassled from the HCPs about that............ ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Hello Not sure about the healthcare side of things - still got much to look into. As for jobs - they are absolutely screaming out for nurses in western australia and prospects are much better than they are here in the UK.Anyway as I said still much to look into etc. Wullie |

Topic: General Discussion / Some advice please HiSorry for taking so long to reply. I increased my BI to 22 last night and it is better. This morning BS was 9.7 but I suspect my BI is only lasting maybe 9 hrs. The duration is 8-14 hrs. Took it last night at 11.30, 8.30 this morning was 9.7 but by 9.15 when I had breakfast was up to 11. I hope | understand it correctly. As for metformin. Was on that for years. At first 2 x 500mg then upped to 2 x twice a day. They never told me what it actually done or any side effects just that it can help with weight loss. I used to have severe problems with my bowels. When I needed to go, I needed to go. I never suspected it would have anything to do with the metformin but it wasn't until late last year I was in hospital for a suspected DVT ( it wasn't a DVT it was phlebitis) and the doc there asked about medications I was on and if I ever had any problems with my bowels!! She told me the metformin would be causing the bowel problems I was having so I stopped taking the metformin ad have been fine ever since. |

Topic: General Discussion / Diabetic Survey Been and done.I was glad of the emotional type questions as I have suffered the "Diabetic Blues" in the past. This is a term not often heard of but I have and still do suffer periods of depression regarding my diabetes. Therefore I was very glad that someone has actually asked how I feel about my diabetes. Topic: General Discussion / OneTouch users beware I agree, I dont think the pharmaceutical side of things is there top priority, which is very surprising as they are most commonly known for this service.........I use a local pharmacy, Rowland's its called, I email my surgery and 2 days later its in the pharmacy bagged up and ready, the wee woman behind the counter knows my name and my wife and sons, and goes straight for the order as soon as she sees me coming in........ fantastic, sorry if that upsets anyone, as I know some of the service you can get is utter pants........ |

Topic: General Discussion / OneTouch users beware I use the Optium Xceed meter and never ever had an issue with any prescriptions. I will say though that I find Boots very unreliable both in a personal and professional way. They frequently tell me that there are supply issues with other prescription items yet when I go to another pharmacy there is no issue. My personal advice is stay away from Boots. Wullie |

Topic: General Discussion / Hello
We all find it hard eating out, but I suppose the more you do it the better you become, and if its only on special occasions, then hey, its OK to let loose every so often.......... It seems you are in the best position you could be in without DAFNE training............ Any help on readings or problem areas just ask........... |

Topic: General Discussion / BI back down? Only do so after discussion with your team..............i was just pointing out the mechanics of the two insulins and why you may be getting problems....Its definetly worth trying to compensate with QA if you are not up for another injection, but in my own opinion, getting the BI bang on and the QA as low as possoble will give the most benefits............ Keep us posted on the results of your 16 units...... ![]() |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Jacket Potato No problem mate, only do what you are comfortable with...........as long as you know you dont need to be low 3 hours later, or high for dinner time......it just takes some experimenting and recording, you might not even need to split, might be a case of jagging up after you have finised eating............the cheese for sure will slow digestion even more, you should experiment with different toppings if you do find yourself eating them all the time....... |

Topic: General Discussion / BI back down? HiThanks for the reply. No I've not tried Levemir, I'm really reluctant to have another injection on a regular basis. I wonder if I go back to BI 16 tonight, keep an eye on my reuslts then think about upping my QA ratio. If I can't work it out I'll try Levemir but only as a last resort! Michelle |
