Topic: Questions for HCPs / Verucca - treatment As I've experienced never ask your GP for advice on diabetes, there to generally trained!!! This won't apply to all GP's but anything to do with your feet u should defiantly go to your consultant!! As when I said this to my GP he totally disagreed with me and told me to use the branded gels/ creams, when I contacted my consultant he flipped his lid and gave me a prescribed cream!! |

Topic: General Discussion / Weight loss ? don't know much about the Cambridge diet pall I have read on Wikipedia.........it would seem that the diet does contain carbs, but it states that its a low amount, which promotes mild ketosis, so not suitable foe type diabetics...........so you could count the carbs, al be it small amounts........I wouldn't personally do this diet due to the mention of mild ketosis...... the main thing to think about is calorie intake, 1500 should take weight off you, even if a man or woman...........I would get advice from the dietician at the diabetic clinic, the GP wont be much help in most cases...... what was your BMI? It probably wont be as bad as you think....... im no professional though.i have a BMI of 32, but I know why, i eat too much........... ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Motion Sickness: Hypo cause or just symptom? just like to add that i personally inject both my insulin's anywhere and they work well each time......was it an HCP that gave you this advice? I think that using one spot for one specific insulin could lead to over use of the area and therefore causing lumps etc... |

Topic: General Discussion / Motion Sickness: Hypo cause or just symptom? Hey JWo,You need to change how you take your BI because you seem to be having a lot of hypos in the morning. The question is should you be taking 12units rather than 11? - I think you should has it seems you BI is running out by morning and your readings are higher at later on! See your Nurse/Doctor and have them take a look at your readings. PS. Was told the other day BI should only be taken in the belly has it works better. ![]() |

I have turned to junk food and now I have learn't today that am clinically obese (can't stop crying) and the doctor told me to go swimming (since my knees are mashed up)- THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT, DOCTOR EVIL!! Does anyone know if the Cambridge diet has carbs that can be counted??? ![]() |

Topic: Site Development / Auto calculate QA from BG - let's get it right I've downloaded Version 1.6 on the Ipod but cannot get the Auto Correction to work.I normally have an adjustment ratio of 1 Unit of QA per 2 Units on the BG reading but cannot get it to calculate correctly. It corrected when the BG was low, but doesn't calculate a correction right when I test a high BG. The correction seems to only work if the adjustment is an exact whole figure. I use a spreadsheet when calculating my injection so if I have an adjustment needed of, say, 0.7 I can manipulate the food calculation to get close to a whole figure. |

Topic: Site Development / App update bugs Damn, you're all right! I was trying it out on 1.6.1 and not 1.6 and the comments do disappear as your describe. Needless to say it's been fixed in 1.6.1 along with the other issues; I submitted the update to the app store on Sunday so hopefully it will be available soon - I'll let you all know when it is. |

Topic: Site Development / App update bugs Hi,Simon, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, after reading this (I rarely write comments, a 20+ BG says it all ![]() I did this on a hypo reading I had just done, I had previously removed the ratio as this makes no sense on a hypo (feature request, can we save blank ratios in the settings for non meal time reading such as hypo or before exercise?), adding the comment reintroduced this, if I had autocalc on I'm guessing that would have fired and removed any manual corrections too. Few little undocumented features creeping in ![]() This is purely for info as a bug report and a bit tongue in cheek, I am a developer for a living and know how these things happen ![]() Phil |

Topic: Site Development / App update bugs Hi Simon,I've double checked your suggestion, hitting "done" is something i've always done, but the comments i add simply disappear when I save the diary entry. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but no success so far. |

Topic: Site Development / App update bugs Hi there,I downloaded the iPhone app update a few days ago and I've noticed that when I add any comments to my entries (ie details of exercise, percentages for combo bolus etc) they just vanish into thin air when the entry is saved. All the numbers are ok but I can't add the details. ![]() Not sure if this is an identified bug in the update but wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Updated iPod App issue Hi Simon,Strange ... 2.8:1 and 2:1 now seem to be working in my iPad, have not tested the iPhone yet. I am still not using the auto calculate facility because - (1) it overwrites any manual changes i make and substitutes its own valuez and (2) if I have a hypo and eat CHO it tries to suggest I take a bolus for the CHO! It is a hassle to turn auto calculate off, perform the edit, then turn it on again. Especially as at the moment I am planning on adjusting my evening background insulin and so will not making a bed time correction - as I might go hypo if I add fast acting before I go to sleep. However as I am aware that you are coding and trying your best to get it to work, I will be turning it on and off as I go! Please take this into account as I am assuming that this is not the normal mode of operation. So once you enable the facility to override individual entries - I.e. turn off auto calculate for individual entries - I will not have to turn it off and on. Having thought further about this ... Is it possible that the settings can be synchronised between my iPad and iPhone? I mean not just the auto calculate values but all the user configurations... I have manually set up the two devices and this is subject to human error when copying between the two. Technically I would expect that you should be able to upload a config to your server and give it a datetimestamp thus the latest version will be automatically downloaded into the mobile device. In the same way that diary entries are downloaded, but the difference being that it is automatically done rather than on request. I have an android device, however I suspect that asking for full interoperability between apple and android is a big one, probably too big. I know what this means as trying to get different versions of the same issue of another well known pay for OS to be interoperable does not work most of the time! It is why I try and do projects using open source platforms. I have found that Linux is more interoperable between versions, and even diferent processors than the 'competition'! If you want me to do specific tests or other stuff I am happy to help - you can contact me privately using the details on this system. I will in any event continue to provide you with, what I hope are useful comments and notes. Best wishes, Rob. |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Updated iPod App issue Hi Rob,Thanks for your praise - always nice to hear. Next, the negative corrections that you mention are being worked on now - so won't be in this update but will be in the next. You should be able to enter a ratio of 2.8:1 in the diary entry and specify targets screens, does this not work for you? What happens when you enter 2.8:1? You'll also be getting the 0.5 unit correction values in the upcoming update ![]() Simon |

Topic: Site Development / Graphs of all values vs time, rather than trends Hi Garry,Thanks, I do use an Optium so may try that. Unfortunately though I also use several other meters (keep one in my handbag, one at work, one in my gym bag, one in the kitchen, one next to the bed...) so each would only show a small snapshot of the day. The only place with all the results together in a meaningful way is on here! Sarah |

Topic: General Discussion / Carpal Tunnel v's Neuropathy Had the L done last Friday and it feels better than the R, The anaesthetist seemed a little more casual with the pump and a Bg of 5.0 at 5:00am. 5.3 at 6:00am and 6.1 at 7:00am (50% reduction for an hour) conscious on 7.2 at 9:00am! Home at 11:30am.The R is pins and needles free and the L is still a bit swollen but I am certainly glad I had them done. Helen |

Topic: General Discussion / Carpal Tunnel v's Neuropathy Hi AllJust to let you know that I have just had Right Hand Surgery a week ago (last Tuesday) - I only had to wait two months from diagnosis to operation as my work is manual and the NHS here in the UK seems to have organised this quite well. I cannot drive for three weeks and my surgeon mentioned that sometimes the nerve damage caused by CTS is not reversed by the operation but the pain and immobility is. He suggested that neuropathy is rarely the cause if the diabetic concerned does not have consistently and persistent elevated blood glucose. For just over 17 years I have been treating my type one diabetes with insulin and I have only had a brief spell of high levels - since I took DAFNE all has been lower again! Just thought that I'd mention my personal experience. Best wishes to you all Rob. |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Updated iPod App issue Hi Simon,I use both the iPod and iPhone and had noticed that it was overriding my manual edits. Looking forward to the update. In the update have you also taken account of the fact that if I have a hypo (say 2.5mmol/l) and give myself 1.2 CHO it should not automatically suggest a bolus injection to take account of the CHO eaten? Additionally how do I enter a ratio of 2.8 CHO to 1 insulin ... Currently I have had to enter it as 1:0.5556 in your system as it does not allow me to enter values other than 1:<something>. I am only allowed to use 1 on the left side of the ratio! Additionally, additionally (!) I use an half unit pen so need the auto calculate to give me 0.5 values. However, I have turned off the auto calculate because of the issues detailed above. I am really pleased with what you have created and am happy to continue uploading my data to the system. I do hope that some researcher will make good use of them. Once again, thanks for all the hard work - I am well aware of what you have to do as software engineering was my degree (1984!) and I still write code today ... All the best to you, Rob. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Long Acting Insulin explained well by marke.........we all need a background dose, as our bodies are continuously using/needing glucose that is provided by the liver and other stores such as those within muscles..........this is because there isn't always food in our bellies to provide our essential systems thier fuel.... taking it twice s a day is purely down to the engineering of the insulin [how long its made to last] and how each individual body uses it....... the most common where I am is Lantus [24 hours] and Levemir [12-18 hours].... |
