Topic: General Discussion / Cyborg Times (new BG meter) Hi I have started my kit yesterday, with out a huge amount of success. First sensor appeared to be faulty, as it continually read low, for the first 6 hours. I then contacted abbots who advised to wait a few more hours for the sensor to settle down, and if it did not start to function correctly, wait a total of 24 hours, before speaking to them again, which I have done and was then told that the sensor did appear to be faulty. Thankfully abbots have said they will replace this sensor, and requested me to return this sensor back to them. Getting the sensor off because it had only been for round 25 hours, was a bit of a pain, as the sticker part was still very sticky, hopefully the new one will be easier to remove if it lasts the 14 days . This one does appear to be giving similar results of my normal blood machine which is cool. |

Topic: General Discussion / Accu-chek Aviva Expert Meter & Corrections For anybody who uses the accu-chek aviva expert meter. How do you remember your correction doses so that you can add the corrections separately in the BG diary? |

Topic: General Discussion / BG diary help please (2) (mum2westiesGill diary) Hi NRB,Thanks for your reply & help. The 5 units of am lantus taken at 1439 on Thursday was because I had forgotten it earlier so becasue it was taken nearly 4 hours late I reduced it by 2 units. I did one overnight basal test on 21/10 - 22/10 at 0301 it was 10.5 as seen in my diary. I was going to test again on 22/10 but had a hypo as you can see at bedtime so had to abandon it grrrrr! |

Topic: General Discussion / BG diary help please (2) (mum2westiesGill diary) Hi Vickyp,Thanks for your reply. The 6u would be 3u for food then the other 3 units would be correction dose. I use the accu-chek aviva expert meter & correction doses are built in ie it does show the correction dose seperate but then on the final screen where you confirm the dose it's all built in which makes it difficult to remember when you come to make enteries in the bg diary. Like you say it maybe the cause of the hypo at 1436. My correction is 1 unit drops me by 3mmol. Yes agree to some more basal testing. Re why I took QA after a hypo at my hypo check it's because I was agreeing with what my meter advised me to take. Like you say because I was below my bedtime target I needn't have confirmed it with my meter - that had crossed my mind |

I think this device will be really useful for holidaying abroad - when you're in a different environment, eating different foods and doing different things. As I understand it, swimming in a pool won't affect the sensor either. |

Topic: Site Development / A bug? still does it for me ! What browser are you using and what version is it. It could be a bug with the broswer compatibility. I will need to check how it does it since we wrote it about 4 yearsago and it has never intentionally been changed :-) |

Topic: General Discussion / Cyborg Times (new BG meter) Hi, I think the check-up idea is what most of us will do who can't afford the running costs. I had to bite my tongue (yes I know, hard to believe) when I met up with the Abbott Rep and DSN last week to report to them on my experiences with the device. The DSN after saying that the NHS won't pay for it was trying to say that it sounds a lot but people spend more on their mobile phones etc each month. This is true but I have also paid into the NHS via taxes for more years than I care to mention so asking me to pay on top for a new device seemed a bit rich :-(I pointed out that when other companies release similiar devices which they are bound to do, the price will get pushed down. I understand that Abbott and any company need to recoupe their costs for development etc, but eventually the price of the sensors must come down. In the meantime we will jsut have to use them intermittently. |

Topic: General Discussion / Cyborg Times (new BG meter) Thanks for starting this thread marke, it's great to have a detailed, honest review of the new technologies.I'm definitely going to check it out as I'd love to know what goes on during the night. I'm thinking I might just do a 14 day 'check up' every couple of months to see if my trends are the same, rather than wear it continuously - would hopefully give a lot of the benefit but without so much of the costs! Or use it for eg. holidays and illness where routine is out the window and the extra info useful. If I go ahead I'll report back! |

Topic: General Discussion / BG diary help please (2) (mum2westiesGill diary) AM Lantus at 5 on Friday.............was that because you took it later.....?there's not much to say really......... still having highs in the morning, which could be down to basal, trying to see a clear picture at the weekend for anyone is hard at the best of times with take aways and alcohol..... there is a 50-50 split between on target and off target blood sugars, so not bad....... its still worth trying to get 2 days, at least, of overnight basal testing with a 3 am test.......so far you haven't managed that due to a hypo on Wednesday night.... |

Topic: General Discussion / BG diary help please (2) (mum2westiesGill diary) On 24th you took 6u at 1023 but for 20g at 1.5:1 ratio it should be 3....possible cause for hypo at 1436?Also try testing around 3am as it is possible for a hypo through the night to be missed and these can cause a high sugar on waking...weird I know but always worth a test! I also wonder why you would take QA after a hypo, as seen on 22nd when you did the hypo check, especially as you were below bedtime target. I don't always agree with what meters etc say..personally in that situation I wouldn't take the QA but still have the snack. |

Topic: General Discussion / Kit bags I have a DIA-PAK Classic that holds my diary, insulin pens, needles, strips, finger pricker and spare lancets. It also comes with an ice pack that you can use if going away or on long journey to keep your insulin cool, Its handy as everything I need is kept in one place. |

Topic: General Discussion / QA ratios on the weekend I work 12 hour shift pattern basically 3 days on 3/4 days off dependent on Sunday working requirements: I m finding that the shifts that need most attention to dosage are the odd night turns that I have to do, and on the days off, I get better control if I actually do something rather than sitting around lol! As for weekends, my results always have been a bit variable: at least now I know how to deal with it....!![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / QA ratios on the weekend About a year ago I was able to semi-retire, and went from full-time work to working two days one week and three the next. Up 'til then I'd found that my ratios etc. were pretty consistent all week (including weekends). The fairly radical change of lifestyle initially seemed to throw things out, and it took a few weeks to sort out - with changes needed to both QA ratios and to BI amounts. As my life now has far less routine about it, like you I'm finding I have to pay more attention to what is going on and not worry too much about the fact that some days require a different, non-routine approach. But that's the beauty of DAFNE - you can respond to whatever your body, lifestyle or activity tells you is happening.Stew |

Topic: General Discussion / diet I'm playing the long game.. Over the last couple of months or so I have made a conscious attempt to eat less - particularly cutting down on potato, pasta and rice portions (to about two thirds of previous portions). I've also started eating more fish - although fresh fish is really expensive, frozen fish (including some in interesting sauces) is much less so. We've also replaced chocolate with a fridge full of sugar-free jellies to have as snacks. I'm finding that this less radical approach to changing diet is fairly painless, and has had no apparent impact on my (pretty good) BG control..I choose not to weigh myself, but in a couple of months my belt is now fastened two notches smaller, and at my last six month review I was over two kg lighter, after a run of continuous weight increases. Seems to work for me. Stew |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / iOS 8 health integration Hi Simon,Basically the old app I used really good except it can't handle the way DAFNE account for corrective QA doses....which is why now I'm using the DAFNE App. You could add BG, CP, QA, BI doses but not corrections on the QA.... Which I need to see now. Overall it was a good app (mysugr), in fact there was probably more functionality in some ways but after attending the DAFNE course this week I want to do things and record thing right. The way the old app integrated with apple health was basically plotting BG results and CP onto the inbuilt apple health screen.... You entered the data into the app and it automatically then put the data into apple health which you could quickly view on a screen with other health items ( I also show how many steps I've taken in a day using the inbuilt pedometer for example). Topic: Questions for HCPs / Help with BG Hi Julieann,I am not Susan but would like to make some comments if that's OK.........? I assume the ratio you are asking about is your lunchtime meal? From the results it does look like your ratio of 1.5:1 is needing to be increased slightly............ however there are other things to consider as well....... is you background dose of 12 doing its job.....?....you don't have breakfast so this is a good time to test that 12, for 2 of the days, Wednesday and Thursday your blood sugar increases from when you wake to when you first eat, this would suggest you need to increase the 12....would be good to do a test between lunch and dinner with something carb free for lunch too....... there may also be a need to adjust your correction factor............so you may be assuming 1 unit drops you by 2-3 mmol, this may need to be changed too......this right factor can be established again by having carb free or missing a meal and just using a correction dose until 4 hours later.......if your at the desired target then the 2-3 mmol per unit is good, if not you may need more or less.... a lot of info there, so apologies, but once you have those things pinned down and correct, making insulin/carb ratio decisions can come much easier........ good luck...........:-) |

Topic: General Discussion / diet I lost half a stone on slimming world and due to types of food items, the carbs were small and low GI and so naturally my BG became much easier to manage..........I have still to see if that effect had an impact, will find out on Monday, but I would expect it to, and I have has no more hypos than the usual activity provoked ones...... |

Topic: General Discussion / QA ratios on the weekend Patterns like these are common for the reasons you suggested................different foods and activity levels............as your BG is higher at the weekend more insulin is required.........would you say your less active at the weekend? on the pump I would deal with this by increasing my background dose or basal rate..........this should be something for you to consider and it will allow you to keep your insulin/carb ratios the same, which in turn make it easier to return to the normal regime during the week..... I can see my self slapping on 15% more........... have a chat with your team and see what they say..............;) |
