Topic: General Discussion / My BG (Trending) Diary - All Comments Welcomed

Hi Anele,
- Re your BI & buttocks - do you manage to get right round to the back for injecting into the buttocks or just sort of at the side of the buttocks?
- Re QA - that sounds like a really good idea of injecting into thighs for brekkie & dinner then stomach for lunch.
- For any corrections before bed or any snacks I presume this is your QA?
- just a refresher for me re changing injection sites would you do this all in one go or gradually?

I completed an X-Pert insulin course just a few weeks back which was very similar to things done on a DAFNE course but sometimes it's good to have a refresher from someone.

Many thanks
Gill Smile

Hi Anele46,

Thanks for your reply/comments.

Yes that's right I only use my stomach for QA but I do always inject in different areas & in a sort of smiley face below my belly button.

I use right & left thighs for BI

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Android - adding entries with no wifi connection

I know I need a wi-fi connection for uploading entries so they go onto the main site but do I need a wi-fi connection for adding entries.

The reason i'm asking is because I'm going on holiday for a week and may not have access to a Wi-Fi connection at times.

Topic: General Discussion / Carbohydrates and Protein

If you eat carbs and include some protein what happens BG wise? Same question for if there were just carbs and no protein?

Sometimes I have a sandwich with paste on or sometimes I have some type of protein such as sliced meat (chicken/ham etc), cheese, tuna etc

Would you consider using the online Diary. I thought everyone had access to use the online diary. It would make your posts so much faster as no extra typing involved!
Agree. My DAFNE consultant used to say make BI changes of 20%...so you are sure of the outcome. But agree that steady progress should be the way forward.

Increasing Lantus (BI)

31/05/2013
6.2 - bedtime
11.1 - this morning for me

30/05/2013
7.7 - bedtime
18.2 - this morning for me

29/05/2013
no test - bedtime
14.5 - this morning for me

28/05/2013
9.7 - bedtime
10.5 - this morning for me

So looking back at the last 3 days I'm thinking my BI needs increasing. I'm currently taking 20u split - 10u am & 10u pm & am undecided whether to increase by 2u (11u am & 11u pm) or 4u (12u am & 12u pm).

What does anyone think please?

Ditto to what I posted on May 26, 2013 3:27pm re entering carbs correctly

I feel as though I'm stuck in a rut at the moment ie even though I'm testing when I should ie fasting, before meals and before bed also watching BG levels I'm not making any adjustments. Not really checking for any 3 day trends.

Topic: General Discussion / Carbs - Rounding Up/Down & BG levels

As well as "rounding up" or "rounding down" carbs do you also consider your BG levels ie low end of target (but not hypo!) & higher end of target?

Thanks in advance for any replies Smile

Topic: General Discussion / Hello I am new on here

Hi Grumps,

Firstly congratulations of becoming a DAFNE graduate Smile. As you already know I'm not a DAFNE graduate but have just recently finished doing the X-Pert insulin course in my local area. I find this site very helpful for use of the BG diary & joining in/getting help from other DAFNE grads.

Secondly I'd like to say that I know Grumps as I am also from the closed facebook group "special diabetic friends" a great group to join.

Enjoy your day Grumps Smile

Have done today a meter control solution test - all was ok Smile

Also wondering of 2 possibilities:
1. changing BI back to once a day instead of a morning & evening dose - not really happy about this because I feel happy in myself atm doing the split dose
2. upping ratios slightly from 1:1 to 1:1.5

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Carb Counting

Garry said:
Jacobs good. You are right. If it is 15g or more - we normally 'round it up' to 20g CHO or 2 cp. If it is less than 15g - say 14.9g we normally 'round it down' to 10g CHO or 1 cp.

Treat biscuits...much nearer 3. If it is 25g or more - we normally 'round it up' to 30g CHO or 3 cp. If it is less than 25g - say 24.9g we normally 'round it down' to 20g CHO or 2 cp.

Regards
Garry

Thank you Garry Very Happy I'm such a "doubting thomas" always doubting myself

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Carb Counting

Have I counted these correctly?

Jacobs cornish wafers x4
- 4.8g cho ech = 19.2g = 2 cps

Treat size biscuits x2
- 13.7g cho ech = 27.4g = 2 cps (or maybe 3 cps?)
