Accu Chek Aviva Expert Bolus Advisor - and eating out

Is there anybody on here who uses this meter & how do you go on when eating out?

When eating out I personally find it much easier to
- order
- test
- eat meal
- then inject afterwords once I know how many carbs I've had rather than testing etc at the time of the meal arriving

the problem is that the meter only gives bolus advice once the carbs are entered.

Thanks for your reply Garry. A split is something to consider but obviously not when on the verge of going away on holiday and out of the country.
When I'm back home I'll give it probably 1 week or just over to see how things have settled and take it from there.

Might be a change too far to make when going on holiday though, as you will need focus on adequate BG control when away. Perhaps leave it for a while.
- I'm also thinking it may be best to do any needed changes when I'm back from hols. When I'm home I may do the same as I do with BI changes and leave it 3 days to let things settle, 3 days to see any effect and maybe a few more to see how things are going.

What happened Sunday Gill. Where did the morning go?
- I'm afraid the morning was a bit of a blur.

9.2 Sunday night and you list 3.5 CP. Your comment seems to suggest you consumed 2 x 1.7 CPs. But you take no QA and no BI. There must be info missing as how did you get to 3.4 BG at 08:18?
- Yes that's correct I did consume 2 x 1.7 CPs but I never take QA before going to bed to sleep I'm just so nervous of what the outcome would be if I did that. Re the BI I checked my meter and yes I did deffinitley take it.

I think an unbalanced split BI may help you overcome your morning hypos and help you flatten out your food intake pattern.
- By an unbalanced split BI what would you mean?

Your corrections can just be listed as 07:14 2.5, 07:31 1.5 and 10:12 1.5.
- These weren't corrections they were the amount of carbs I'd had for the hypos (jelly babies)

Any thoughts about having breakfast earlier?
- I don't really do breakfast until about 10am ish

I've been getting some very high readings so last night Tues 30/07 I increased BI from 18u to 22u.

Do you think I've done the right thing?

I know I'll have to wait three days for any changes to start taking effect and another 3 for them to settle down and take full effect. So basically it will be next Mon 05/08 before I see what it's really starting to do.

Can I have some comments on these BG readings please?

I'm currently on:
QA/Humalog - 1:10
BI/Lantus - 18u at 10pm

21/02 I went onto a split dose of Lantus 10am & 10pm
27/06 back onto a single dose because I didn't know if the split was working for me & because Lantus is really a single dose insulin unlike Levemir which can be split. I don't know if my Lantus is running out ie not working the full 24 hrs.
