Topic: General Discussion / Aviva Expert Meter Discrepancies I use the Aviva Expert Meter for testing & dose calculation. I did a test and the meter showed a reading of 9.9. I forgot to enter the carbs I was going to have for my meal so I switched the meter off and did a second test about one minute later using the same finger. This time the meter gave a reading of 12.6.Obviously this is a significant variance with the consequence of a difference in the dose of insulin taken to cover the meal.Is this normal or is there a fault with the meter? |

Topic: General Discussion / MDI - Basal/Bolus - Meals I am similar to novorapidboi, am now on pump and generally have 3 meals a day, plus mid morning snacks. If you're basal is right then you should hold steady without eating 3 meals...love my food too much to not have 3 meals! |

Topic: General Discussion / MDI - Basal/Bolus - Meals I was on it and I suppose I still am with the pump........I usually do have three meals, only because I love my grub, however you don't need too.....as long as you basal insulin is doing its job you will be fine.... ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Raspberry ketone supplements for weight loss I only know bits about it that was in an article on womens health mag or channel 4 news website and it was mentioned that this was the latest celeb diet fad and as they come from raspberry I thought I might be natural enough. I wouldn't try anything like this without the right advice as I'm no doctor and just wondered if anybody else knew more than me x c |

Topic: General Discussion / My Recent BGs - comments wanted please Just with a general casting my eyes over your results they seem to be a lot more stable and closer to recommended targets...you also seem to be having a lot of hypos in the morning time leading up to when you first eat... this could suggest too much BI or too much QA before bed... what ratios do you use for your bedtime snacks, you have only just started to bolus at this time yeah? In light of that a 1:1 ratio would be best, even though your dinner time is 1.5:1..... Have you spoke to your healthcare team about splitting your background dose....? |

Topic: General Discussion / Raspberry ketone supplements for weight loss Can any hcp tell me if raspberry ketone supplement is safe to aid weight loss in diabetics. I am type 1 for 33yrs and am age 44yrs on insulin and also metformin and 10mg ramipril for blood pressure and and have always been a little overweight but find it difficult to stick to various diets long term even though I am a busy mum and moderately active. I have read a little on line about initial raised bg and Bp on initial stages of taking raspberry ketones. Please help I need to be bikini ready by May ! |

Topic: General Discussion / gym and insulin qty Hi Neil,Quite a high blood glucose there after exercise. It may be best to eat some carbs that are more slow releasing in the body than Lucozade after training. There are some answers that id still need to know here, like when was it since you're last insulin shot and what did you eat in your last meal before exercise. Also, what I do is test my BG, before & after training to see if there is any big difference in the readings. High intense training causes the body to release glucose into the blood stream that can linger there resulting in highs later on. Here, you can either reduce your insulin only slightly for an hours exercise or eat a little bit more in your meal before training, but you should test before and after the training just to be sure. |

Topic: General Discussion / different bg reading I would probably chose the one in the middle........Did you wash your hands before the test..... Its normal for there to been a mmol or two difference between test/fingers... Why did you test 3 times in such a short period..? |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Insulin dose help! If in doubt, do a background test.........get all the information you need for a typical 24 hour period then go from there........Being recovered you should find your liver may be providing less glucose than it was when fighting off a virus or infection and so you could potentially reduce your basal, but you may also find you have become slightly more resistant to your insulin over the illness and after it.... ![]() |
